It appears as though the browns best player isn't gonna be paid like their best player and isn't going back. It sounds like he wants to be traded and I was wondering what everyone would be willing to give up to get the far-and-away best ST player in the league?

I'm no expert on NFL salaries but that sure does seem kinda low for a playmaker of his caliber. Can't say I blame the guy for wanting out

first off, he will end up getting his contract. it's only the second day Holmgren has been in office. he's under contract for 3 more years, so they aren't going to rush it. second, they would never EVER trade him to the Steelers.

Sounds like the Randle El situation we had here a couple years ago... But Cribbs is 5 times the returner he was.

Won't matter until our return team learns how to block.

I am happy with Logan, he didnt return any but I believe that was moreso because of the ST return team not being able to effectively block for him, Logan did get pretty good yards, 1,466 3rd in the NFL. Give the man some blocking and think about what he can do.

he could be perfectly clean (despite the pounds of pot he allegedly uses for pads) score 10 ST td's, and only cost 2 bucks.

guru says he doesnt want him anyways.

Wait a second....he's "demanding a trade"?

Doesn't that make him a POS douchebag?

It can't be both ways...and, concerning the Steelers actually picking him up, I can't see that happening. He's going to cost too much as a specialist, and we have a lot of existing players who need to be paid first...

He absolutely means a ton to the Browns. He can justify a huge contract.

The only problem with this is.....You signed the freaking contract....now man up and play it out.

There really needs to be something in the contract of every NFL player that says if you demand trades and refuse to play, they can collect 90% of what they already paid you....or fine the living bajesus out of you. Not these piddly 5-10k slaps.

If we get Cribbs, our kick coverage will instantly improve by about 300 yards.

Cleveland wont trade him as he is the only weapon that team has right now and 2 if they do trade him it wont be to anyone in the same conference let alone a divison rival. Yall are having Madden dreams again. Come back to reality.

Jim Rome did a radio interview with Cribbs a couple of weeks ago...from the sound of it he wants to stay in Cleveland. I gathered he is a team guy and wants to help the Browns get better.

Josh Cribbs IS the Cleveland Browns. I think he played every position this season, except defense. I can't believe they tried to lowball him.

More proof that the Browns organization is FUBAR.

I kind of feel bad for Cribbs. He plays hard and plays through the season, all he wants is a fair deal for his talents. He was told his deal would be reworked by the old regime, then they got fired. Kokinis/Mangini promised to rework his deal by the end of the season, then Kokinis got fired. Now he's being totally lowballed by Dawn Aponte.

However, the Browns have all the leverage. He has three more years on his current deal. If he doesn't show up for mandatory practices and stuff, he will be fined the maximum he can be fined.

And as for him coming to Pittsburgh, the Browns are not going to be trading the best kick returner in the NFL to their arch rival. They also are not going to release him outright, giving him the chance to go anywhere in the division, much less the AFC.

Angus Burgher
01-07-2010, 10:26 AM
It's kind of a moot point, anyway. Even if the Browns were willing to trade Cribbs to any team in the NFL, the Steelers wouldn't make a play for him. I wish, once in a while, we would target a star player in free agency instead of signing no-namers or questionable rookies with hopes of turning them into talents. Sometimes it works, but usually it leaves me scratching my head.

We do not need Josh Cribbs..We need Lineman, Linebackers, Safetys and corners

revefsreleets

I honestly think he'll sit out if he's not paid. He's part and parcel with the Browns future success. They will be using him to return kicks, in the wildcat, as a WR and probably even as a RB next year.

This was definitely a black-eye for the organization for his agent to leak actual numbers...

If we needed another WR I'd be all for it. Unfortunately, we don't have room for him or his salary.

Besides, give me a late round Special Teams Tackling Demon and I'll live happily with Stefan Logan.

Cribbs is one of the best players in the NFL.............this question should have been asked two years ago.

I you check it out....................Returners have the shortest lifespan in the NFL and Cribbs is near the end of his:tt04::tt02::tt03::tt:

But not in the secondary? Because that's where we're really getting torched.

Cribbs isnt being underpaid nearly as much as people think he is. First off, he's mostly just a return man, a damn good one, but he's a special teamer. Dont even get me started about his qualifications as a wide receiver, he is a TERRIBLE wide receiver. He's got SOME uses in the wildcat. So basically you're looking at a returnman/wildcat personnelman who cant throw (He's only attempted about 10 passes his entire NFL career, 2 completions, 1 INT).

They'll better find 3-4 DE quality early and CB quality later.... I'm guessing anyway.

First off, Cribbs IS underpaid. Devin Hester makes 5.45, Andre Davis makes 4.3 and Roscoe Parrish makes 3.4.

He also is a VERY versatile player. He's had a couple decent games at WR, and he will be utilized at RB next year should he come back. He's a solid player, but he's also as douchebaggy as any other player who demands a trade, so this would create a natural conundrum for any braintrust member who thinks that asking for a trade IS douchebaggy.

Is someone actually arguing that??? I thought that was obvious.

He IS a shitty QB though. :chuckle:

Well that is good to hear. I would love nothing more than to get Rolando McClain in the first, but he should be gone early. I wouldn't mind picking up Brandon Spikes at 1.18.

Mike Holmgren and the Browns would be stupid to let their best player get away in Joshua Cribbs. While that is pretty sad to low ball Cribbs like that, they will get him signed to a nice contract before the season begins IMO. I understand that Cribbs was very upset about their initial offer, but IMO he could have handled it a little better.

Instead of coming out in the media and busting on them for it and speaking out of anger, it might have made more sense to actually meet with Holmgren first and then discuss. Although I do believe Randy Lerner should have given Joshua Cribbs a new contract before the 2009 season began. Like Deion likes to say "just pay the man"!

Everyone in this situation looks like a complete f***ing idiot.

To the Browns: This guy is only asking for $2.5M a year? How stupid are you not to pay him that? He's basically the only legitimate weapon you have. And $2.5M is actually LESS than the average amount of cap room you have for each roster spot. You would have to be mentally f***ing retarded to fight over this.

To Cribbs: If you were worried about outplaying your contract, why the hell did you sign a 6-year extension for roughly $1 million per? You chose security over the risk of maybe getting a big payday but maybe not having a job at all -- and you lost that gamble. Sack up and admit it. If you walk out THREE YEARS of your contract, then sure, what the hell does ANY contract mean?

Honestly, I think it would be funny if the Browns just told him, "OK, you want to hold out? Have fun trying to hold out for three years." Of course, that'll never happen, but it'd be funny to watch.

Really, the only solution that would do justice to everyone's intelligence in this situation is if they all die in a fire. Darwin would be proud.

Holmgren looks just like Charlie Brown. Can somebody post them side by side?

Cribbs was told by the previous regime that they would rework his contract at the end of this season, however the new regime said the same thing. Then they came out with their low offer either out of frustration or disrespect.

Management has a point and contracts are not guaranteed so Cribbs has a point and it is what it is, but they really should pay the best player on their team.

If I were a GM I would look to see what the clowns wanted for him, but they already have a bunch of draft picks.
