seriously, why is belichick wearing a poofy yarn ball on his head?

what is he, like 6?

anyone hear the ref announce that since the ravens were awarded the first down, the patriots would be given a conditional 4th round draft picK?

You know that they will give an extra draft pick to the Patriots because we picked up Joey Galloway the last game of the season. Since Galloway started for the Patsies this year. Nothing would surprise me with those idiots that run the NFL. They will probably get one for whats his name that went to the Raiders as well. And another one for Tom Brady being the comeback player of the year. (yeah right. He so deserves that one. NOT!!!) If the commish had any balls, he would've taken the first three or four years of Patriot's first round picks away. Instead, they still continue to stockpile draft picks because the other idiot teams in the league keep taking players for draft picks. The Patriots are DONE. Jr. Seau was seriously playing as a starting LB for them today. They are definitely pretty bad on defens.

I'm shedding a tear as I type this, as I don't think I've ever read a better thread on this forum. :drink:

Seriously, when the Steelers beat the Ravens in last year's AFCC, I posted that while, as a Ravens fan, I hate the Steelers, I was going to pull for them to win the SB so a fellow AFCN team would win the Lombardi Trophy. Needless to say, I am quite pleased to see how many Steelers fans on this site were pulling for the "Ratbirds" to take down New England. I'm glad they were able to oblige.

Power running and a stifling defense with plenty of take-aways will take you far in the post-season. That's AFCN football.

Well, unless you're the Bungles! :toofunny:

The Rats will be sacrificed on the altar of the NFL next week. The Colts will probably beat them by 14-21 points. Manning will light up that secondary like a Christmas tree.

Even IF the Rats can hang, the NFL can't have an AFCCG without the Steelers, Pats* or Colts, so the writing is already on the wall. Nobody likes the Ratbirds.

Looks like I was 1000% spot on in my prediction about the Pats. Maybe next year, Patsies!

Nah, they got the 'Boys back in the playoffs this year! You know the powers-that-be have to be pulling for Dallas to win it all! :chuckle:

I thought Brady was going to light that secondary up. But holy crap! The Ravens secondary played absolutely great yesterday. Picks galore and when they tackled receivers, they hit them hard. And the DL and LB's put Brady down a few times and harassed him into making bad throws.

If they can do that to the Pats, they can do it to Indy. I'm not saying they will, just that they can.

Manning has better WR's too. When Welker went down (last week), NE had no shot at winning, because he was pretty much their "X" factor. Moss can be stopped simply by making him put effort into getting off the line of scrimmage. You have to do a lot more than that to Indy's WRs to get them to quit on a play.

Yet he only put up 17 points when Indy beat the Ravens 17-15 in Week 11. This year's Colts won a lot of games........very close games. And losing their last two by resting starters is probably going to come back and haunt them like it has in years past.

Maybe.....:wink02:

At the end of the year, the Rats were the 3rd best team in the AFC North. The Pats were ripe for the picking. They were overrated all year, and they really didn't have a single quality win....Their Jets win at home was the only thing close, and the Jets were still playing very inconsistent ball at that point.

Looks like I was 1000% spot on in my prediction about the Pats. Maybe next year, Patsies!

And it also looks like you were 1000% spot off on your prediction about the Ravens thus far, as you foresaw them going 8-8 and missing the playoffs if I recall correctly.

Now tell me that they'll lose next week, because favoring the entire field against individual teams every single week is seriously risky business!

... I am quite pleased to see how many Steelers fans on this site were pulling for the "Ratbirds" to take down New England...

Power running and a stifling defense with plenty of take-aways will take you far in the post-season. That's AFCN football.

I'll be rooting for the Purple-Browns again this week, inspite of the fact that as a kid I liked the BALTIMORE Colts:
I simply think the hard-core & ardent Baltimore football fans got a raw-deal when the Colts left town in the middle of the night

That, and the fact that the Purple-Browns are almost a mirror-image of the Steelers in that they play an agressive defensive scheme, and (used-to) try running the ball down the opposition's throats

At the end of the year, the Rats were the 3rd best team in the AFC North. The Pats were ripe for the picking. They were overrated all year, and they really didn't have a single quality win....

Overrated by whom? You? The media? Me? Other inherently biased sources?

Your downplay of the Ravens' victory is completely and totally based on arbitrary assessments of New England; maybe you should instead view the Patriots for what they are (were): winners of a division, a squad that went 18-1 two seasons ago with the same quarterback/head coach/receivers/tight end/running backs/etc., a three-time Super Bowl winning franchise in this decade, and the number three squad in the playoffs.

Yes, but it's been 5 long years since the Patriots* last won the SB, and many valuable members of their defense from those teams are long-gone:
this Patriot* team might-be like comparing the 1982 Steelers to the '78 team that won SB 13

This win is being WAY overstated.

No offense, but if they were third-best in the AFCN, then the Ravens would be sitting at home and the Steelers would have made it into the post-season. I know the point you're trying to make- that the Steelers got hot in their last two games, but it still doesn't change the facts.

And I would agree that a 21-20 or 24-14 win against New England could be labeled as "overrated." But a 33-14 blowout that included three picks off Tom Brady plus a fumble recovery knocked out of his hands, and the total domination of the LOS is not overrated. The Patriots were still an 11-5 division winner.

Same owner, same coach (general manager), same quarterback from their Super Bowl winning years; to me, that's the core, and they're all still there.

Many players from the 2004 Super Bowl team are no longer in New England, but most of the offense from the 16-0 season is still intact, not to mention the fact that the Patriots were still the third seed in the playoffs this year, and were at home where they haven't lost in thirty years.

They were 11-5 last year...under Cassell. They were 10-6 this year under Brady (and a hair away from being 9-7 honestly). This was just a crazy year for the AFC. I'm not saying that they are overrated (even though I may think it a little lol), but they are just not the dominant force they were years ago. As SBx4 mentioned...it's like comparing the '78 Steelers to the '82 Steelers. 4 years can make a huge difference sometimes.

Congrats on the win though...the Ravens did play a superb game. There was a time when I questioned whether or not they were worthy to be in the playoffs based off of play in the regular season, but they really went out there and answered those questions for everyone yesterday.

I will say I'm a bit sick thinking of who to root for on Sunday lol. I think the Colts will come out very stale though and the Ravens are playing very hot right now.

I'm not trying to down-play what the Purple-Browns did yesterday, beating a 10-6 Division Champion on the road, and I was rooting for them & will-again this weekend against the Colts, but execpt for their Coach, owner, QB & arrogance, the '09 Patriots* aren't anything-like the team that won 3 of 4 Super Bowls 5-8 years ago:
you confirmed this yourself.

I dont like the Ravens at all..........but I respect the way they built that team. I like them to get to the AFC championship game.

I can see their O line pounding the ball at the Colts smallish D line and controlling the clock, keeping the ball out of Manning's hands and getting a couple stops on defense to get ahead. I think this is a matchup the Colts didnt want to see.

That and the fact the Colts havent played a game in 4 weeks without having anything but a preseason game mentality to it, will get Caldwell bounced early again.

I agree with this completely. The Rats have better lines on both sides. We all know how to beat Manning..pressure, pressure, pressure. We have done it, the Chargers have done it, and the Rats will do it also. Rats can stop the run, the Colts can't. It's really that simple. Rats should win by at least 10.

I'll speak slower so the slower can comprehend.

AT THE END OF THE YEAR, the Ravens were the third best team in the AFC North.

One could make the case that they were better than the Bengals, but the game THAT THEY LOST against the Steelers was an absolute must-win at the time, and they.....um.......they lost.

The Rats needed to be playing their best football, and they weren't. Beating the Pats is a big victory for THEM because they've never done it, but the Pats have beaten exactly NOBODY this whole year. So, you know, enjoy the win....but it will be the last of the season.

That's beside the point. The Steelers played THESE ratbirds very recently.....and beat them....in a game that BOTH teams AT THE TIME had to win.

Point is, the Steelers would have gone into Foxborough and kicked ass, too....this is MUCH more about the mediocrity of the Pats then it is about the Rats or Steelers.

This big huge Rats win really means very little. It'll be their last this year and nobody will remember the 2009 wild card round one game in 5 years anyway.

I still fail to see this "Must Win" We lost and the next week we still didn't need any help to get into the playoffs. We weren't watching scoreboards or hoping for upsets, we win and we are in for the last 2 weeks of the season.

I understand your dislike of the Ravens, and I respect that fan hatred. But you can't dispute the facts. We are a better team this year than the Steelers (who also were quite overrated as it turned out), and now have moved past the Patriots quite decisively. I agree the Ravens didn't look hot finishing up the season, but if they play like they did on Sunday for the rest of the playoffs, there will be no stopping that team. I just fear their ability to play so well for another 3 games.

Nobody asked you, whiny.

The Steelers and Ratbirds played in a game they both HAD to win. The Steelers won. Did you happen to see the records? They were both 9-7. The Steelers BEAT the Rats, and won their last 3. In any sane and reasonable persons mind, given that data, the Steelers would clearly be considered playing better football at that point of the season, ergo, they are the better team.

LOVE seeing the Rats fans whine though....you're very good at it, and whiny fits right in with you. Considering you're completely one-dimensional on offense and the defense is a shell of it's former self, losing in the divisional round after a fairly average season of football is nothing to be ashamed of. Be happy with the 10-8 season.

The Steelers HAD to win, as they were down in AFC victories to the Ravens. The Ravens wanted to win, but they also knew that with a win at Oakland the following week, they would squeak into the playoffs ahead of the Steelers.

You know Oakland, right? The team the Steelers couldn't beat?

Sour grapes, dude. Sour grapes. I could really see your point if Baltimore had laid an egg in Foxboro and lost in the wildcard round. But having spanked the Patriots 33-14, they have shown that they can win when they must. There's no guarantee that the Steelers would have won at Foxboro had they made the playoffs.

Baltimore has had one-dimensional offenses in the past and have won big games when they needed to. Flacco hasn't regressed; he's injured and that hip is throwing his passes off the mark. So if the running game is getting 200+ yards on the ground and putting up 4 TD's, there's no pressing need for him to throw the ball. If the Ravens can hold Manning to two TD passes and less than 21 points (which they did better than that in Week 11) and Rice, McGahee and McClain can eat up yards on the ground, then they can win at Indy. If the running game falters or if Manning starts to light it up, then either Flacco will have to step up, or if he's physically unable, than Troy Smith will have to come in at QB.

But as you said about both New England and Baltimore, Indianapolis is not the same this year that they have been in years past. Even though they almost went undefeated, they did not blow teams out and a lot of their victories were close shaves at the last minute. And as Baltimore's defense (especially the pass rush) has improved quite a bit the past few weeks, I think they can pressure Manning into at least one pick.

You don't see it that way and that's fine. But you are looking at the Ravens through black and gold-colored glasses.

The Ravens imo were the better team overall in the season, but when the steelers faced the ravens, i thought the steelers were better.

At baltimore i thought the Steelers were better, at Pittsburgh the Steelers were lucky to escape with a win everyone knows that with the penalties and a dropped passes in endzone. It's wierd they needed overtime to beat our third string qb in dixon yet we nearly lost by 14 or more points v the rats with ray rice running all over us which was excrutiating to watch.

The Ratbirds are in the playoffs because they deserve it far more than us. Hell did we even deserve to beat the Lions? We gave up nearly ****ing 350 yards to them. That is disgraceful in no way argument or whining should we of made the playoffs this year.
