Steelers' Shipley signs with Eagles
Monday, January 11, 2010
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Center A.Q. Shipley, a Coraopolis native who hoped to follow in Mike Webster's footsteps with the Steelers, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles today.

Shipley, who started 39 games at Penn State and made several All-American teams, was drafted in the seventh round by the Steelers last year. However, he did not make the team and spent the season on their practice squad.

The Steelers tried to sign Shipley to a contract for 2010 last week but he balked and was the only member of their eight-man practice squad who did not re-sign.

No surprise. Not sure if Shipley would have been a big asset for the black n' gold in the future anyway.

That's a shame...I thought that kid had huge potential despite his shorter build. I would have loved to see him get his shot here.

Good for him. The NFC East is a good spot for him where he can fight for the backup job and only have to deal with one div opponent that has a NT.

He'll probably start for them for a decade. He's a determined little Rex. :chuckle:

Smart move on his part. It seems the Steelers have plans for the big Legursky

I kind of believe that we are going to be better off with Legursky. Shipley just didn't seem like he was going to pan out for the Black and Gold.

Okay, well, if we still want him, we can pick him up after the Eagles cut him in camp this year, because IMO he's not gonna make the team.

Too bad he didn't sign with the Packers. He could have been teammates with Kuhn!!!

Good for him - he'd just spend another year as a barely marginal practice squad player here.

Yeah, he will be trying to get a backup spot behind Jamaal Jackson, who I think is pretty solid at C, but was injured this year.

Philly has a good crop of young linemen on the roster. Mike McGlynn, Greg Isdaner, Gerald Cadogin, Shipley, Dallas Reynolds. That is 4 from last years draft.......I am sure not all will make the squad next season.

They knew he had short arms. Why bother wasting a draft pick on such player?
Another wasted pick!!!
