I know it is supposed to be about The Bus returning to his home town and Big Ben's chance to step up to the top shelf of NFL QBs, but based on the stories I am reading, the break out star of the week (although he shuns the spotlight) may be Troy if he plays to his recent level on Sunday.

Check out this quote by Troy from media day:

"The nature of a man who has a competitive spirit will be to inevitably live a life which involves that man overcoming obstacles. But the sport of football is too physically and emotionally difficult to play simply for money or success. Personally, I have been inspired by God."

In response, an ESPN columnist writing a blog responded "I think Polamalu should start a cult, because I would like to join it."

Or, as Peter King on SI.com wrote today, "I think Troy Polamalu is one of the most thoughtful interview subjects I've ever heard. He almost puts you in a trance when he talks."

This combination of talent and introspection is hard to top.

great read, fascinating guy

You're not kidding. That is not your typical football player blabber. He has some interesting philosophical ideas and interests that have nothing at all to do with football, though he claims to be called by God to play. Cool stuff, thanks for the link.

Troy is one of the most intelligent and well educated man you'll find. He's deeply religious, very stoudt on the field and a film junkie..the man has it all.

No wonder he is one of my favorite players - he has his priorities straight !

It's really funny, because out on the field, he is a headhunter, but when you hear him speak, it throws you off of how harmless he sounds.....

And to think he trains with no weight over 20 or 25 pound can't remember which.
Saw him state that in an interview once.
