I went through and looked at the upcoming free agents, and while there are some good names available at positions of need, I'm just not sure this team signs any of them. We've all seen it before; fans see a name that would be a nice fit to the team, but he goes somewhere else.

To add to that, I think it would be in the team's best interest to try to re-sign guys like Clark and Hampton and just use the draft to fill up the depth and future starters. This year's draft is extremely important; I can't really stress how important it is for this team to hit on most of their picks. We are in serious need of depth and youth at every offensive line position, nose tackle, cornerback, safety, and linebacker. We don't necessarily need starters, but our late-round draft picks the last 3-4 years have been very poor, and it shows when we have injuries.

btw they arent together anymore lol

Anyways......i think some FA's that will be considered by the Front Office are quality D-lineman, that might be a little pricey, but important nonetheless. We've never been the team to dish out the money for free agents, but every once in a while, we do make a pretty decent splash with a star player. I think if Hampton isnt resigned this year, Aubrayo Franklin, Ryan Pickett, or Jason Ferguson might be considered. But that's highly doubtful since Rooney II made it clear that Hampton is a top priority.

I also think Kevin Faulk might be looked into.

EDIT: Also, Tramon Williams at CB?

naw, they dont need him at all. For one thing, i dont have enough fingers to count the number of weapons the Saints have in the passing game, and 2nd, they have Pierre Thomas who has emerged as an all-purpose back, along with Mike Bell, and Lynell Hamilton.

They dont even need to run the ball much, but they can if they need to, or feel like it.

The problem with Bush is that he WILL get starters salary and he's a situational player.

I think the Saints use him wisely but over-paying for a player like him could end up hurting your roster in other areas.

How about replacing Steeley McBeam with Kim Kardashian? It would take a lot of the pain out of losing to teams like Oakland if Kim was on the sidelines. I doubt the Steelers do much of anything in the FA market. They have too many FA problems of their own that need to be re-signed.

also, the tape would have to be with Hampton and Kemo, just to put her firmly in her place.

he is, but we used him as a FB, kinda like we did with Sean McHugh. Summers hasnt proven much of anything on the field yet, which is ok with me since he didnt have much of a chance and it's only his rookie year. David johnson has been the closest thing to a fullback we've had this year. And the best.

xbroughneck

Did you see Summers in his limited role at Fullback this pre-season? He looked like a deer in headlights. He has a lot of work ahead to be

1) Good at blocking (which is what he's worst at)
2) pass catching out of the backfield

Since Arians is against us having a fullback take up a roster spot, the next best thing is having our #2 TE being a good blocking TE.

From what I can see David Johnson is better than Davis, and Spaeth at both run and pass blocking. I'm fine with him being our "fullback".

We don't have to run from the offset I, or the I formation all the time. As long as EVERYONE can get a hat on a hat we should be able to run with just Mendy back there. Have Johnson slide over to the FB spot occasionally to run from the I formation.

We need secondary help more than anything.

Since you're not giving any parameters as far as making sure they fit under the cap, and things like that, I'd like:

Johnson was good, he's very fast for a tightend or fullback. He's an H-back, which is what we pretty much used him for. I didn't see Summers that much in the preseason, but I thought he did a good job blocking in short yardage situations. He's faster than Johnson with a 4.50 to johnsons 7.70. He did 30 reps of 225 compared to johnsons 21. He's also a bruising runner, he reminds me of Mike Alstott. He's also the ideal height of a fullback, he's 5'9 which is good leverage against 6 foot+ linemen and backers. He's thicker than Johnson, even though he's 240, johnson is 260 but at 6'2. If the Steelers can utilize him right, he can be a force on short yardage running situations, weather he is blocking or running the ball himself.

So many of these guys listed are either not needed (R.Bush) or just plain too old (Faulk)...

There are so many Free Agents that we actually NEED to help improve the team...

Players available that I would like to see in B & G:

Corners:
Tramon Williams
Dunta Robinson
Richard Marshall
Leigh Bodden

Safeties:
Nick Collins
Antoine Bethea
Roman Harper

Defensive Line:
Elvis Dumervil
Ray Edwards
Marcus Spears
Vince Wilfork

Offensive Line:
Jahri Evans
Logan Mankins

There are some great Free Agent LB's available this year, but I do not think we need any help in that position.

:tt:

If there's an uncapped year, then the top 8 teams are restricted in who they can sign. That would narrow down the competition for free agents to 24 teams. We may actually get a decent quality free agent this year for a reasonable price. Now, I don't expect to out bid teams for a guy like Dunta Robinson or Wilfork, but I can see us winning out on a good player like Mankins, who won't command a HUGE salary.

Yeah, but If I said list the top 50 available players. Cross out 1 - 25. Then, cross out anyone looking to sign their 2nd long-term contract. Finally, eliminate anyone over the age of 35. Well, that wouldn't be too much fun. :chuckle:

But IMHO the real weakness is at safety.

We need someone to cover tight ends and RBs out of the backfield. Hopefully, between Keenan Lewis and William Gay being a year older we'll have better performance from our corners.

We know Troy will be back.

What we need is depth, youth and speed at safety.

I think it is imperative to resign Casey or Ryan Clark one of the two must be brought back. I belive Casey should take priority . As far as the free agents to look at I like Jerome Harrison and Logan Mankins they would definantly add depth, and in Mankins case add a solid starting guard to the O line . I believe that the draft this year is loaded with defensive talent especially secondary help. With guy slike Earl Thomas of
Texas and Corners like the boys from Alabama. I also think that if the Broncos cut Payton Hillis this year wich is likely because he has not been used , they should get him to be a short yardage and goaline back .

Two good games and the guy is an all pro . Ok if you use that simple form of thinking. Dude where is david tyree right know :banging: Explain why the giants let him go then buddy anything can happen Mr. half empty .

Are you seriously comparing this: http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2009122003/2009/REG15/browns@chiefs#tab:watch

to one play?

rushing for 286 yards in the NFL is feat worthy of exceptional recognition regardless of the opponent. That's the 2nd most rushing yards in a game dude. Why would the Browns even allow him to sniff free agency? Especially with Holmgren around.....

Deuce Lutui, G
Antoine Bethea, S
DeMeco Ryans, LB
Logan Mankins, G
Jahri Evans, G
Marcus McNeill, T
Gabe Watson, DT

I'd be happy with just Antoine Bethea out of that list! And I think the Steelers could get him for a decent deal :tt02:

I think you might see someone from one of the teams that the new coaches are coming from. some diamonds in the rough at a deep position on those teams maybe?
