2000 Baltimore Defense
Points Per Game:13.5
Yards Per Game:247.9
Pass Yards Per Game:187.3
Rush Yards Per Game:60.6
3rd Downs % Per Game:34

2008 Steelers Defense
Points Per Game:13.9
Yards Per Game:237.2
Pass Yards Per Game:156.9
Rush Yards Per Game:80.2
3rd Downs % Per Game:31

It's clear that the 2008 Steelers Defense is better, i don't care if they had hall of famers in Rod Woodson on their team and that world renowned murder Ray Lewis.

Our Defense was statistically better therefore it's a fact it's better :tt04:

You put steelers 09 defense in the title buahaha

People made this comparason last year. Both the 00 Ravens and 08 Steelers had to carry bad offenses to the superbowl. But the 08 Steelers offense had to come from behind to win a couple games. 00 Ravens didn't let the other team scored and had way more defensive touchdowns then the 08 steelers. the 00 Ravens is better because they carried an offense to the superbowl that went 5 straight games without scoring an offensive touchdown. My opinion

PS: The Steelers offense in 2008 had an average time of possesion, the 00 ravens offense had games with just 3 and outs, having the worst time of poessesion, so their defense was out there for more time, no matter how good your defense is, they are gonna give some yards up every time they are out therr, and when their offense is punting 8+ times a game, they are gonna give up a tad more yards than the 2008 steelers which were punting abount 4-5 times a game.

u forgot about turnovers/sacks. Im more than sure the 2000 ravens had more turnovers, not sure about sacks.

To say that it's easy to identify the better defense just means ur being a homer. Give credit when it is due.

With the 76 Steelers D as the benchmark, we have here the best three of all time. And the 00 rats are third.

Statistically it's better, but it isn't actually better.... Lets see the steelers go 5 straight games with out an offensive touchdown, I bet we lose every single game. Even if it was the 76 Steeler defense.

The 76 steelers had most shut outs in defensive history with 5, but that was in a running league back then, but in the playoffs as soon as Franco and Rocky went down to injury and the offense kept going 3 and out, they lost by like 2-3 touchdowns. Defense couldn't hold that long.

2000 Ravens had 4 shutouts in a passing league. Thats huge. Every team they beat in the playoffs were dominant scoring and passing teams. Including the Titans, Raiders, and Giants in the superbowl.

The 2008 Steelers defense almost lost it against Passing teams like San Diego (even though we dominated them 11-10 earlier that season) in the playoffs and Cardinals in the Superbowl. The average stats for the season are so good because we dominated bad teams like the Cleveland Browns, Bengals and Redskins. We allowed like 70 something total Yards against the Browns in one of the games, and the Bengals were just so terrible, we probably allowed less than a total of 150 yards to them. And we destroyed the Redskins. The averages, are average, if you put a couple really small numbers in there, it takes the total average down, a lot, go to math class.

I know you hate the Ravens, but the 2000 Ravens were just better, get over it. And the 1985 Bears were better than them.

If it's statistically better then it is better, lol who cares about the offense, great defenses can lose games because offense don't work.

if it's statistically better then ours is better.

The Bears of '85 is still one of the top 3 or 4 Defenses of all time in my opinion. The Steelers and Ravens will always agree to disagree on who had the best defenses in those two seasons.

Quoted for truth. Enough of this blind, kool-aid drinking homerism lol. I hate the Rats as much as any other Steelers fan, but it's laughable to say that the '08 Steelers D was better than the '00 Ravens. That D got Trent freaking Dilfer a SB ring for crying out loud. 'Nuff said IMO.

Stats to not tell the whole story of a season, period.

Then what is there to discuss... was there even a need for you to post a new thread for this if it's not open to discussion? :noidea:

Dont forget turnovers.

2000 Ravens forced 61 turnovers

2008 Steelers forced 37 turnovers

The '00 ravens only played 1 more game than the '08 steelers.

lol true, i will never put the ravens defense in the top 5 they have a convict as there leader lol.

Baltimore that season didn't even have the number 1 ranked defense, the Tennessee Titans did.
