has anyone seen HBO's jimmy johnson 24/7 or whatever? i dont like johnson, but it is really good. its pretty much nascars version of what Hard Knocks was for football.

infact, i think it even has the same dude doing the voice over narration.

if anyone was a fan of FX's nascar drivers 360 a few years back, its the same thing.

damn. it looks like penske will be the only team fielding dodges in '10.

no collaborative effort for them. they must be getting a ton of money for research and development. either that, or dodge will be out of the game as quickly as they came back in.

i guess roger would then go with toyota. (he's already done pontiac, ford, dodge, and seems to have an aversion to chevy.)

that seems to be the plan. she seems to have the right approach. she said she will be out there gaining her feel, learning a thing or 2, staying out of trouble, and finishing the race.

thats easier said than done though. her femballs will grow with every lap she completes. i'd love to see her in the top 5 with 5 laps to go.

brad is (and has been for a while) really good with nascar. i woulda never thunk it watching him in the nba for so long.

who couldnt love the mikey waltrip/DW drama? i cant wait for 5 complete hours of it on sunday.

nice to see "bad" brad kesolowski, and kurt out there for a while, leading the pack.

i would think as the only dodges in the field, the 2, 12, and 77 have more incentive than anybody to stick together, which can only mean a repeat of '08. :jammin:

I was surprised by how well she did in the first race...and actually might try and watch her in the upcoming race. I don't normally watch a lot of NASCAR...but seeing the hype machine come to my In-Laws favorite "sport" (and how much they dislike her) has drawn my interest. My wife says it's just cuz she looks good...and I just smile at her everytime she mentions it.

As for the last part, she seemed to get into a few pushing matches from what little I saw of her in the last race...I can't imagine that this one will be any different.

if the twin 150's are any indication i think it will be an excellent race. they were getting sideways and slip sliding left and right and still avoid wrecking. it seems like they have more control.

heres my top 5-

5. mark martin

But Kevin Harvick is why I LOVE NASCAR now. Harvick now has his own number AND new sponsor AND new color scheme. i dont know, htg. he's breeding now, and may lose his edge and focus like fellow golden childs jeff and brady recently have.

anyways, if you have HBO, tuesday night at 10 est is the final show of his series that will have behind the scenes access to him and his team, before, during and after the 500 (win or lose as advertized). it was a damn good series and the raceday finale should be the best episode.

so anyone else think it sucks the "pothole" stole the thunder from what was otherwise a damn good race with more leaders and lead changes than any other 500 in history? its not like the true nascar fans arent used to rain delays. :noidea:

it seems like the drivers hate the unlimited "green/white" checkers to finish a race. while a wreck at daytona is practically a given, it seems it would give an advantage to those mid pack to keep punting those infront of them out of the way, and gain positions by attrition.

I guess we'll find out.

Matt just needs a crew chief to tell him 'it's gonna be OK - just drive'. Drew was too much of a "yes" man.

Matt is on the warpath

Matt: "Crew chief change my idea"

Matt Kenseth says former crew chief Drew Blickensderfer didn’t show the leadership skills or develop the type of chemistry his team needed.

“The timing of the change is probably 100 percent my fault,” Kenseth said. “I know that I’ve been asked by Jack several times if there’s anything we needed to change on the team. … Jack talked to me in November and asked if I thought we were OK with everything we had going on, and I really did.

“I really felt like we needed to give Drew a full year and a full offseason. He was working on some things, trying to make it better. It’s really hardto explain the timing of the change. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s not any good for anybody, really. It’s just kind of the way it went down.”

Michigan bans smoking in grandstands, suites (http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/Michigan-track-bans-smoking-in-stands%252C-suites)

Updated Feb 24, 2010 1:33 PM ET
Michigan International Speedway’s seating, mezzanines, concession and restroom buildings, suites and chalets will now be smoke-free, according to a track release.

The announcement follows a state measure banning smoking in public places which will take effect May 1.

Michigan hosts two NASCAR race weekends this season.

“Not only are we adhering to the law, but we are addressing a growing number of concerns from our race fans who do not smoke,” MIS President Roger Curtis said in a news release. “Race fans who smoke can still do so in approved areas. We appreciate all our fans for their understanding and patience.”

Smoking will be allowing in open-air areas behind the grandstands, in the New Holland Fan Plaza and in campgrounds.

The Champions Club, seating and adjacent patios will also be smoke-free.

Those violating the policy will be subject to fines by state and county enforcement officials who are on site during race weekends.

Signs will be posted to remind fans of the non-smoking areas.

“MIS ushers and security will monitor the grandstand seats, and we fully expect our fans to police each other,” Curtis said. “We will have a number of avenues in place for fans to notify us, including our text messaging service as well as notifying security, if someone around them is smoking in the grandstands or suites.”

I've been going to the September Dover race since 2000 and remember them passing out cigarette coupons (though they were the off-brands) but never had anyone handing out smokes. :chuckle:

The whole thing is - the races are outside and fumes from the cars are a helluva lot more harmfull than a little ciggy smoke. At one of the races back when I could still smell, this wiltabeast was sitting next to me and if it wasn't bad enough that her left thigh was suffocating my right leg, I swear she bathed in White Diamonds perfume and gagged me and everyone around us. :shake02: Never fails - every year, I get some smoking Nazi shooting me the hairy eyeball for daring to light up, so I just light up two.

it coulda cost busch the win (and robbed the fans of what was looking to be another great photo finish between him an montoya).

with that being said, addington to kurts team has to be the steal of the off season. i thought he was a rising star with kyle, and the way penske changes crewchiefs like most people change underwear, hopefully he is finally the guy to lead the organization (otherwise he will never be a contender). they were ripping off sub 13 second pitstops pretty consistantly.

that was some great racing. the restarts were exciting, and there was plenty of close, heated battles on the track.

shame on edwards though. i always thought he was a bit more professional than that. he needs to atleast contend for a champ before he starts acting like the judge and jury out there.

That was well said Tony I think it was going to be a close finish as well but that went to the way side. There comes a time when you have to let things go and pay someone back down the road. You could actually see Edwards hands turn to the right from that one camera shot. Anyone could tell that was intentional. The lap before Edwards almost wrecked his own car trying to wreck him. It was just an idiotic move on his part.

keselowski was a rookie when he put edwards into the fence last year, and todays early incident was pretty much a close racing deal.

It's brilliant marketing by NASCAR.it might be if it were remotely based on reality.

NASCAR doesnt have to worry about the hiljacks tuning in. that fanbase is solid and die hard, regardless of any soap opera slapfest between the rainbow warriors.

its the trendy northeastern and west coast, corporate bandwagon fans, who have jumped ship on the sport just as quickly as they had embraced it.

its no coincidence that jeff gordon had appealed to that base (which had definitely become a HUGE fanbase).

its also no coincidence that you no longer see all the gordon gear anymore and it is primarily gordon fans who say they dont even watch racing anymore because it has become "boring " in the past 4 years. (i wonder why... probably because "their guy" is no longer the front runner, every year.)

:busted: WHAAAAAAAA!!!!

jeffy being the tough guy and no longer rolling over for his teammate is a great internal strategy to being his fans back.

i doubt it will work though... as the fad has passed.

im all for anything that will keep them around, as it is what's best for the sport, and helped nationalize it.

but then again, easy come, easy go.

Johnson takes blame for incident with Gordon

#48-Jimmie Johnson took the blame for making a mistake that ultimately led to teammate #24-Jeff Gordon's wreck at Talladega Superspeedway. Johnson said he was trying to slide in front of Gordon late in Sunday's race so the two Hendrick Motorsports drivers could draft together toward the front. But, he said Gordon was coming too fast. Johnson's move instead had the effect of a block, and Gordon was forced off the apron in a defensive move. His momentum gone, Gordon slide back in traffic and was caught moments later in a multi-car crash. "I misjudged the closing rate," Johnson said. "We all make mistakes, I am no different. Certainly, that was my fault. I made the mistake there." Gordon, who drove his damaged car to a 22nd-place finish, was furious with his teammate after the race. "The 48 is testing my patience, I can tell you that," Gordon said Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. "It takes a lot to make me mad." Johnson was involved in his own accident later and finished 31st. Johnson had already left the track when Gordon, also a four-time series champion, talked of his frustration with his teammate. "I would have stuck around if I knew what was waiting for me," Johnson said. But Johnson again dismissed any notion of a rift with Gordon. The two tangled a week ago at Texas Motor Speedway, but downplayed any potential tensions. "There's no doubt after the fact that frustrations are high, the wreck just compounded it," Johnson said. "I think he was speaking out of frustration.:toofunny:

its also no coincidence that you no longer see all the gordon gear anymore and it is primarily gordon fans who say they dont even watch racing anymore because it has become "boring " in the past 4 years. (i wonder why... probably because "their guy" is no longer the front runner, every year.)

I'm still a huge Gordon fan, as well as a JJ and Jr. fan. I will be proudly sporting my #24 shirt at Dover at the end of September!

Correction (Read: You are wrong...as usual). It was a 2 minute search to find one of your worst and farthest "off" posts in a long line of wrong and off posts. Easy Peasy....

This actually is a great example of a 3rd string political poster at work. A topic comes up about which you know nothing (which happens a lot). It's not complimentary to your party and the guy you voted for. You do a quickie Google search, and post up the first crap you see, not really understanding what it is or what it means. You get caught being ignorant. Then you backpeddle, call some other people names, divert, project, twist and spin like mad, and try everything you can to squirm out of the embarrassing truth that you got caught in your own web of ignorance.

It's your MO. It's what you do. And I think it's funny as Hell. You are a "Google Expert".

In this thread, I post up some sarcasm based on the boards weird penchant for NASCAR conspiracies, it WHOOSHES right over your head, and you ignorantly counter by blasting me (as if I was serious) when all I was originally doing was lampooning your history of posting up weird conspiracy garbage. Classic!

grand opening of the NASCAR HOF today. for those who havent seen it, it looks amazing and completely blows all others out of the water.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/racing/wires/05/11/Hall.of.Fame.opens.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

"If you're going to be a top-five sports league in this country, you need to have a world-class Hall of Fame," said NASCAR chairman Brian France. "It's going to be a place where our fans can come and celebrate and look back at the history of the sport. We haven't really had that in a formal way all these years, and this is going to change that overnight."

The city spent $195 million on the project and is touting it as the biggest and most technologically advanced Hall of Fame in professional sports. The 150,000-square-foot building is a shrine of memorabilia, exhibits that recreate old-time NASCAR lore, 154 video screens, racing simulators and interactive activities.

NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick, who helped the city of Charlotte with its winning bid for the rights to the Hall of Fame in 2006, spoke at Tuesday's ceremony and was one of the first visitors to tour the facility after the doors opened.

"I just think if you don't hold on to history in anything, that it doesn't mean much," Hendrick said. "he fact that we can showcase our history in such a great setting is going to pay us huge dividends down the road because new fans ought to know about Junior Johnson and they ought to know Buck Baker and those kind of guys. And they ought to be able to see the old cars.

"I think a fan walks away knowing we care about our past and our history. To me, that's what's important -- that our history, our roots and our heritage is important. It's not all just about today."

its a conspiracy... :toofunny:

kurt busch (ever the diplomat) was asked who his most favorite competitors were, at the grand opening.

dale earnhardt. jeff gordon. rusty wallace. mark martin (whom he says it was a pleasure to be a teammate with)

good list. its probably a conspiracy he left out other scrubs.

its probably a conspiracy he included an earnhardt.

its also probably a conspiracy i mention a busch.

Yeah - a one groove track and cars that can't pass is always bad - But watching Jimmuh screw up and lose a race is pretty funny

Going good so far. Has Harvick signed up with RCR yet? His contract is up after this year and anything could happen.

Meanwhile - if Joonyer misses the Chase again the stands will be even more empty.

Childress: Harvick deal finalized soon

DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Richard Childress expects to have Sprint Cup points leader Kevin Harvick signed to a new deal by the Coca-Cola 600 at the end of the month.

Harvick
Harvick

"Yeah, we're pretty far down the road," the owner of Richard Childress Racing said of negotiations before Friday's Cup practice at Darlington Raceway. "We've still got to get a few things finalized, but we're looking forward to getting everything done by Charlotte or before Charlotte."

Asked after his qualifying lap about Childress saying they were close to a deal, Harvick said: "I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about Darlington."

Harvick almost lost control of his car in qualifying and was not happy with his two laps.

"It [expletive] sucks to be honest with you," he said.

Sponsorship is among the details to be finalized with Childress.

"I feel real good about where we're at," Childress said.

Shell/Pennzoil announced last month it would leave Harvick after this season and move to the No. 22 car of Kurt Busch at Penske Racing in 2011.

Asked if Budweiser or Mobile I, big-name sponsors whose current deals are up, might be on the list, Childress said, "There are sponsors that are not even in the sport that are interested."

Harvick began his Cup career at RCR in 2001, replacing Dale Earnhardt after he was killed on the final lap of the Daytona 500. Harvick has 12 career wins, his most recent two weeks ago at Talladega Superspeedway.

But there was a time last season when it appeared Harvick would not return to RCR. He reportedly wanted out of his contract to sign with Stewart-Haas Racing and through much of the season declined to talk about his status with Childress.

"There was a time when we didn't know if we would be back together," Childress admitted. "Then we got some things worked out and we feel good about it."

Shell/Pennzoil announced last month it would leave Harvick after this season and move to the No. 22 car of Kurt Busch at Penske Racing in 2011.

:wtf: ???

http://www.catchfence.com/2010/sprintcup/04/23/penske-racing%E2%80%99s-kurt-busch-confirmed-that-he-has-signed-a-multi-year-agreement-with-penske-racing-to-drive-the-no-22-shellpennzoil-dodge-charger-beginning-in-2011/

WHEN WAS YOUR CONTRACT UP AND HAVE YOU TALKED TO ANY OTHER TEAMS BEFORE RE-SIGNING WITH PENSKE? “I knew that I was committed through 2010 and 2011’s option was picked up by Roger (Penske). So what that meant was a perfect opportunity to talk about what the future could bring; not just 2011, but 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and beyond. We started with just a light-hearted sit down at a dinner one night, almost like one of those napkin sketches of, ‘Hey, this is what I’d like to see and this is what might happen.’ Then this (Shell/Pennzoil) opportunity just came up a few weeks ago and it changed the whole landscape that we ended up with.

“No, I didn’t talk to any other teams. When I weighed my options personally, with my wife Eva and my manager (John Caponigro), we looked at other teams, we tried to find scenarios that would fit for us, but none of them were as powerful as creating the longevity with Penske.”

IS THERE ANY HESITATION WALKING AWAY FROM THE MILLER LITE SPONSORSHIP AFTER ALL THE YEARS THAT YOU WORKED WITH THEM? “The more the game changes, the more that it stays the same. This is a scenario where I felt the Miller family and all their executives are good friends of mine and we were in a partnership together. You’re the name and image of the brand associated on the motorsports side of it, which was a great feeling to have. Those ties aren’t cut; I’ll still be with those guys. They’ll be at Penske Racing. We’ve developed a great partnership. Our name goes really well together on and off the track. And all of the other cross-promotions that we’ve done with baseball, football, basketball, that’s my big thing that I’ll lose a little bit of, but anytime that I need to give them a call, there will be opportunities to help them out on some other end. With the global alliance that Shell has and the notoriety that they are known for with their motorsports program, that speaks for itself. It will be an interesting step for me to learn as we move forward. In a nutshell, it was a tough decision to step away from something…because I’m such a loyal guy and I’m very committed to any program that I start, but in the end, being committed to Roger Penske is the ultimate balance.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY CHOICE IN PICKING THE CAR NUMBER 22? “I threw a couple numbers out to Roger that I’d like to see – some of my favorites, something new and refreshing. The No. 2 stays with Miller Lite. It’s the Blue Deuce. That pairing – Miller Lite and the No. 2 – I didn’t want to infringe on and Miller Lite folks were happy to hear that they were going to keep the No. 2 because they were pushing for that really hard. The No. 12 is in the Penske stable. The No. 22 has been picked up — the old Bill Davis car – and, to me, looks refreshing. It will be nice to have it out on the track next year because it’s still looking for its identity. It won the Daytona 500 with Ward Burton and Bill Davis. Me and my Dad were just looking at the numbers in (NASCAR) history. Fireball Roberts was a legendary driver and he was good in the late ‘50’s and ‘60’s with the number 22. It’s exciting that there’s a new number and look that will be generated over at Penske racing, but it’s also exciting that the Miller Lite No. 2 car…the Blue Deuce…will be under our stable and in good hands with Brad.”

:danceshout: bad brad keselowski piloting the blue deuce!

granted bush has grown on me, and i'll always be a fan, but this is too cool. (is brad old enough to drink yet? :alcoholic:)

Blood Clots End Vickers’s Season

Brian Vickers will miss the remainder of the Nascar season because of blood clots in his lungs and left leg. Vickers, 26, was hospitalized two nights last week after feeling chest pains during a visit to Washington. Testing revealed the clots, and Vickers missed last weekend’s race at Dover.

Vickers returned to North Carolina after his release from the hospital Friday night, but he said a recurrence of chest pains had sent him back to the hospital the next day. He spent another two nights hospitalized, and the decision to sit out the rest of the season was made shortly after.
