him and willie both want to be the starter. thats not happening here.

but then again, arians could finally unveil that "horsie" backfield he has been bragging about with 3 running backs in the backfield on passing downs.

:muhaha: that will trick everyone and we will rule the world!

He won't be cheap. What's more someone will (grossly, more than likely) overpay him for what he did circa 2006, not what he is capable of doing now, and I'm glad it won't be the Steelers.

IF...and thats a big IF..he came cheap and was willing to take a reserve/mentor with the Steelers...Absolutely I'd take him! We'd be fools not to....Just his experience should certainly be able to teach Mendy something I would imagine...plus if Mendy were to get hurt, I'd feel better with LT back there in an emergency than our green crew that we have now. Can never have enough quality backs....remember in 2008 when Davis was playing HB for almost an entire game due to injuries....Not a good plan.

He will want to much money and he wants to start that is why he don't want to be in San Diego. LT is not the back he used to be so I hope we can find someone else.

What's the obsession with drafting and signing free agent RBs? Did I miss something about Mendy and his posse? Or, more to the point: Why would we even want Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson on our team when they would just be picking up blitzers for Ben?

Can we start talking about CBs and linemen instead?

No, he is past his prime and has a lot of wear on him. Not to mention he is a puss when it comes to injuries.

Hell NO!! He won't take a cut in San Diego. If we're gonna pay big bucks for a backup keep Willie and we know LT would want to be the starter even though health wise he IS FWP!!!

HELL NO.

Can't wait to see all of the "should we sign _______" threads rolling around when FA kicks off. :horror:

From my repertoire:

Damn you offseason, damn you!

Should we sign some of the Steelers from the 70's if they are cheap and they agree to hit the gym? :chuckle:

That was me----

A) I like Tomlinson---

2) How long until the "He will look good in Black & Gold for Vet Minimum " posts begin?
(I'll give it less than 48 hours---maybe even less than 24hrs)

This board is very predictable...

EDIT:

BTW,
I agree

I seriously doubt it. He's not our style and they don't typically operate by signing older players (especially a RB). If it was a non-retired Deuce McCallister I'd give it a "Hmmmmm" but not LT.

Hell yes - sign LT to back-up Mendy, sign T.O., I don't care

It's an uncapped year heading into a year with no football.

Cap money is worthless now, sign everyone, we got one more year.

I really don't see how that'll be a problem -- Parker can wish he was the starter all he wants from his seat on the bench in Seattle. I doubt Mr. Nagging Injury makes it out of street clothes most of the year anyway.

But seriously, to the OP ... I'd take Tomlinson if he was cheap. Why wouldn't we? Problem is, he isn't going to be cheap. And a lot of other teams will rush to overpay him before we will.

I think the Broncos would take a shot at him actually.

Us, I think the only way the Steelers would talk to him is first and foremost, he has to agree to a backup roll and back up pay. Do what Parker refuses to do.

We go into next season with Mendy, Moore is a question mark at this point, and Parker wants to be gone. So unless we think Davis and Summers are the answer, a back in FA is almost a given at this point.

You do relize the reason he's being released is because he isn't that great anymore and he refuses to be paid less?

Cheap? I dont think we could sign him cheap and im pretty sure he will want to be the starter like someone else we already currently have and is probably on his way out.......dont think its the best idea

Yup, that's the offseason for you. A player gets'rumored to be cut and a thread gets started. Though I suppose to be fair, I'd imagine each team talks about every FA that becomes available as part of their due dilligance.

We don't need another "name" running back. Mendenhall can and nearly is an everydown back. I like Moore's downhill running even if he struggled in pass protection last year; either get a pure speed guy or another Moore type when he got here. A back with good hands and can pass block.

Not only no, but HELL NO !!!!! Why would they trade out an existing RB who gets hurt all the time for another RB who gets hurt all the time and is over the hill? The NFL is always littered with over the hill RBs who went to another team and mostly sit on the bench. We already had our Duce Staley in sweats on the sidelines for most of his Steeler career.
