The Steelers have hired a new wide receivers coach, but who exactly is he?

Instead of looking through the NFL ranks, Mike Tomlin instead chose a former NFL player, with no Pro experience but one who has coached the same slot on the college level for the past four years.

Scottie Montgomery filled the last open slot on Tomlinís staff, replacing Randy Fichtner who moved into the quarterbacks coach role.

So who exactly is Montgomery?

For starters, he played at Duke where as a player he boasted a career in which he was one of the best wideouts in school history. He later was an undrafted free agent who from 2000 to 2002 had 16 receptions for 160 yards in 27 career games with Denver. He also played for the Oakland Raiders.

Following his playing career, Montgomery returned to his alma mater and enjoyed a successful career mentoring players.

Montgomery tutored two of the finest wide receivers in Duke history in Eron Riley and Jomar Wright. Riley, a two-time All-ACC selection. Riley went on to sign a free agent contract with the NFLís Baltimore Ravens.

Duke had three receivers with more than 50 receptions and 600 yards each last season including Donovan Varner who had 65 for 1047 yards and eight touchdowns.

For more information on Montgomery here is his bio. SCOTTY MONTGOMERY

Plus, Star Trek fans can think back to the days of Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.
"I'm sorry coach, I'm giving it all she's got, but these wide receivers need more dilithium crystals!"
