Holliday aiming for a fast 40

INDIANAPOLIS — It is one of the combine’s annual traditions, along with coaches spitting out cliches at news conferences, quarterbacks choosing to skip positional drills and Rich Eisen sprinting down the field in a suit and tie. Every year, a few players boast about how they will break new ground by running unheard-of times in the 40-yard dash.

LSU track star and return man Trindon Holliday became the first to do so this year.

“My goal is to run a 4.23,” Holliday said.

Incidentally, that would surpass the 4.24-second benchmark that Chris Johnson ran two years ago. Holliday said the fastest he has been timed was 4.21 last week.

If Holliday is able to accomplish his goal, he would be the rare prospect to do so. Times like 4.2 or 4.3 are bandied about often by combine participants in their news conferences, but it is extremely rare that those numbers are actually reached. For example, Darrius Heyward-Bey had last year’s fastest time at 4.3, and only a handful of guys have ever officially been clocked that fast in the combine’s history.

At 5-foot-5, Holliday still will face several question marks about his pro potential, regardless how fast he runs. There is one particular Chargers star he has to model himself after, though.

“I’m watching a lot of Darren Sproles,” Holliday said. “I kind of (pattern) my game after Darren Sproles.”

I really hope we draft this guy to be a returner. He may end up being linke Dante Hall ! Holliday and Logan returning kicks would be awsome. We could average starting position at the 35 yard line.

He is fast and thats about it. He is too small and he will never be more than returner. Unless he lasts til the 5th round I dont want him.

Looks like Chris Johnson really is that fast.

Just Jacoby Ford remains in his path now. And there to similar in speed and CJ beat Holliday by a full 10 miliseconds. thats like a footstep

.If all he is going to be is a return specialist, he won't be drafted before the 5th. unless AL Davis has a woody over the guy because he is fast.
