Did he just break his wrist signing that contract? I thought I heard a snap.

I guess we needed more depth at IR?

Oh well. At least it wasn't Parker.

You guys need to stop.

Once he signs on the dotted line we gotta support the guy.

Welcome back Charlie.

People, Ben is going to start most of the games next year, and Dixon will be the #2.

Charlie is an EXCELLENT #3 QB.

^Well said xbrou, Dennis Dixon will be the 2nd. QB IMHO. Charlie can help him mature...and give some good pieces of advise to BB too to avoid trouble off the field :noidea:

I really don't agree with this signing at all. I get they did it cause he knows the play book and can fill in if there is a mess with Ben going into the season still, but I'd rather use Dixon at this point.

Who said that Dixon wont be our #2...he was our #2 the latter part of the season last year. I dont see him dropping down to 3rd QB just because Batch is back...even if they say its going to be a "competition" for #2.

I just hope that we never need him to actually play.

So you think Charlie is washed up then?...... Charlie's been a smart QB when needed and also a great mentor on and off the field.

I only see his worth as a mentor. Whenever he steps on the field, he gets hurt.

i really dont get the urgency of this deal. we didnt even wait for when bulger was released, to see if he would accept a minimum contract.

either the rooneys are as loyal as advertized to players who are loyal to them and the city (which i have no problem believing) or the cardinals had offered charlie the opportunity to come in and mentor leinart and anderson (which i would also have no problem believing).

Got no problem bringing him back as he seems like hes involved on the sideline...but whats with the friggin 2 YEAR deal ??

Unless its makes it more Cap friendly or maybe I am missing soemthing, but sign him to 1....

Am I off base here...

I agree. The best thing for this deal is how Batch can really help to coach up Dixon.

Nice move to keep him. He probably won't see any playing time, but he's a nice mentor for Dixon. Charlie will probably wind up being a Kubiak/Garrett type that gets a coaching gig in the future, maybe even with Pittsburgh.

I'm really not sure how to feel about this. I like Batch just fine, but it's not like there isn't ample proof that the guy's not going to contribute on the field from here on out.

Locker room value?

I really don't get the signing myself Batch has seen his better years. I think we could have gotten one in the latter part of the draft this year to do what Batch is doing.

That's funny stuff. We needed to sign him as a QB assistant coach and groom him to take over that job. I like Charlie but his playing days are behind him. He's been a true Steeler and deserves a shot at a coaching job, plus him and Ben are friends.

this is the best signing we can expect with all the ben stuff going on. IMO, dixon is our #2, but batch has the experience and wisdom to be the best #3 Qb in the league and to help dixon if he has to start some games if things take a dive with ben.

Don't forget: it;s not always easy to get someone with Batch's experience to be a long-term number 3. Any of you think Lefty/Bulger etc would accept a third-string role? No - I imagine they would've demanded number 2 status - potentially endangering Dixon's development.

I still hope they make an offer to Leftwich if/ when he's released by the Bucs. I think there's too strong a possibility that Ben is going to miss all or part of the 2010 season to leave your options at Dixon and Batch.

HometownGal

Ughhhhh. :horror:

I was really hoping the Steelers would sign Lefty if he was to be released by the Bucs. :banging:

Batch was making $2 mil a season and I really hope the FO isn't paying him that much to hold a clipboard and babysit Dixon.
