Looks like I'm going back to the bars this year. I can't justify paying that much.

2010 - $314. + $99 for games in HD. :jawdrop:

Yeah that's kind of ridiculous. Crap...I haven't even been able to justify paying thousands of dollars for an HD tv yet lol, I couldn't imagine having to pay $400+ a month on top of that. (I'm assuming that's per month...or is it a yearly fee?)

I've never had DTV (we have Atlantic Broadband)...what was the cost of it before?

Yep, I was thinking about finally taking the plunge and getting it. Not now. Especially in light of the way the game is being continually ruined with new powderpuff rules every week anymore.

Ugh . I remember it was $ 149.95 for the Sunday Ticket when I first got Directv in 2002 . I hope and pray the Steelers atleast have 6 primetime games ( Sunday , Monday , Thursday , Saturday , lol )

What I've done in the past is tell them I can't afford the Ticket anymore and they would throw in the HD free along with Showtime for 6 months . I cant say no to that . SOLD !

Yep...Last years price had a hard time getting the WAF(wife approval factor), don't think it's going to get it this year.

That's why I haven't had it in a few years. Cost is dumb. Besides...it got me to find a great, local Steelers bar and I have a blast on Sundays. They open up the top floor bar only for us, made it non smoking (with an outside patio for smokers) and have food/beer specials. We average about 50 - 75 people a game.

Call them and complain. They will crack and give you it a lot cheaper. I can't believe its that expensive.

Yea... the upside is that you could find yourself in a Steeler's bar (if you don't get Sun. Tic.) having a good time around some of your Steeler fanatic comrades. So if you look at it that way, its a "win-win" situation... :tt03: Just watch the drinking and driving...

The league sets the price that high because they can, since DirecTV is the only game in town for Sunday Ticket. If they offered it to everyone, I guarantee the price would be lower.

That's the hard part. LOL! But I have found myself drinking less and less and just stop around half time, so I am good. Or, my wife goes with and drives.

Thats a problem. Try finding a Steelers bar in potataho, I dare ya. At least in my area.

It's either a fight with all the illegals that want to watch the cowgirls or the donkos and suckhawk fans.

Was hoping to get the service soon but will wait until I hit a big time job with a big time pay. In the meantime, Steelers get togethers in bars.

That's just ricoculous! :yikes: No way in hell I am paying that. Fortunately I live in VA, where there are at least 20 Steeler Nation bars with 50 miles of my house. Also, since there are so many Steeler fans around here, they usually bitch to the local TV stations enough to get most of the games on the local channels. I remember the last time I had Sunday Ticket(back when I had a good job) and being pissed because more than half of the games were on locally. So I was basically throwing money away. I haven't bought it since.

I'll have to plan for an over nighter for any of those. The closest one is only about 130 miles away.

I purchased the NFL package for a couple of years and of course absolutely loved being able to see every Steelers' game since I live in California, but the price kept rising and it became so outrageous that I drop it.

Although I miss it, it's become a joke and I'm not going to pay into that joke anymore.

Instead, I now spend my money on the hockey package, which is MUCH cheaper, and you get a whole hell of a lot more use out of it.

I recommend it to everyone. If you love football - or hell just sports in general - then check out the Pens and hockey in general. You won't be disappointed.

After thinking about it , I think Im going to pass on the Sunday Ticket this year. Im from NYC and I travel to 2 Steeler games a year in Pitt . Include that with a possible 4 primetime games , maybe a national televised game here and there , shoot to a local bar , I think I could be alright . :noidea:

If you take in the cost of what I would spend at the bar and times that by 16 games I come out a lot cheaper buying the Direct TV Sunday ticket. Plus I like having my grill and smoker right out the back door.

What I do is have my 60" tv ( Steelers ) along side a 27" tv that would show a game that concerns the Steelers . Also , I would have my laptop on to see a 3rd game all at the same time. Thats what I love the most about the Ticket . Am I going to miss that ? What a conundrum. :noidea:

I think I'm going to try playing csr roulette and see what kind of deal I can get. I have the yearly auto renew, sometimes when you call to cancel they'll make a deal with you to keep the package. Half price sounds good to me.

If you subtract the primetime games, and the local games you can get if you're lucky, i bet you'll come out cheaper not having the package. maybe not though depending on your drinking abilities :drink:

IMHO HD is the way to go. Not just for sports but everyday TV is better as well. For sports the you will see a better defined picture. The price is starting to come down a little. If you do get one Samsung is the best one at this time but there are also other brands that are not bad as well. Do your homework before you buy. I would suggest you stay away from Plasma they aren't built to last even though the picture is pretty good.

I'll pony up for the Ticket unless my So Cal brethren want to get together weekly at a bar? Any takers? As for the TV, Sony and Samsung are made in the same factory I think. I've always been partial to plasma but it is dying.

I can hold my own on the drinking............In northwest Arkansas we get KC games and Dallas games the most. There have been a couple of years where it hardly paid to have the NFL package with all the Steelers games on the regular TV but I hate to miss them and I hate the bar cause of all the background noise when I am trying to watch the game. At the house I show folks the door if they become a problem

Dude! Speak for yourself! I am a home theater enthusiast and have been for years...finally upgraded my 57" RPTV for a new Plasma...research shows that plasmas have plenty of life (20+ years if you view 8 hours a day, every day) and NO TV is built to last, man! Plus, plasma's still are tops in picture quality, although LCD's have been making headway in the last few years.

Always thought the Sunday ticket was a waste. It's so much better if you can find a good bar and watch it with some cool people - the price is cheaper in the end anyway; unless we win a lot because I tend to buy rounds when we do well.

Completely agree...the social aspect of going to a good bar or club to watch is worth it instead of sitting, alone, on your couch.

Honestly...some of my friends have HD, and I personally just don't see enough difference to spend the kind of money (for the size I would want) on an HD. I'm way, WAY too cheap. I don't like spending money on things I don't need...I leave that to my tech geek man. Just give me a beer and a game and I smile, I'm a simple girl!

Besides...I figure by me saving up my money I'll be able to afford the top of the line 3-D television headsets that I'm sure they'll come out with in 10 years lol.

So true :tt03::tt03::tt03: I just had flashbacks of when us Steelers fans took over Denver for that Monday night game last year - we took over their bar first, then their whole stadium! Never seen fans (broncos) that freaked out and bummed. I love it! :tt03::tt03::tt03:

I have not seen a hockey game yet in HD...just Steelers games. And sure it's nice...but I've always been cheap. I just didn't see the big deal. I don't care about sweat drops and every single blade of grass lol. I'm satisfied just being able to see the games.

I could easily drink up $400. in a few weeks, gotta eat too. If I go to the bar it's usually to watch the morning game and afternoon game, then depending on who's (buying :chuckle:) playing in the evening game if I stay or not. But the wife isn't to impressed if I come stumbling home every weekend. Kind of a toss up right now.

You can get an HDTV for less than $450 if you know where to look. There's a misconception that you have to spend thousands of dollars on an HDTV - you don't. Sure, you can if you absolutely have to have an uber-huge screen with 1080p HD, but for someone like me, who lives in an apartment, a 32" screen works just fine. There's no way I'd have been able to afford one if I still had to pay $1500 or $2000 for it.
