i also like that when the team reported for voluntary workouts on monday (when all the hubub from the press was about ben not attending) "lurch" was the only one to address the media.

 welcome back to smith. his and troys return will be a boost to the team and a boot in the ass of their opponents.

This is fantastic news as we all saw what happened when Aaron was missing last year.
It's not only his on field abilities, but his quiet leadership skills that were dearly missed last year. Welcome back Aaron!

I Agree
Aaron is THE Most underrated DE in the league.
Ziggy is good, but ...not good enough yet

Smith's presence will be felt this year--as much as his abscence was felt last year

Aaron in 2 years. Keisel resigned for 5 years with starting $$$ for a reason

Tomlin did say he planned to cut back some of Smith's workload in the offseason not just because of age, but to continue to see what guys like Hood and Harris can do.

No way a number 1 pick should be sitting his second year. Smith makes 6.3 mill...Ill take ziggy and his1.8 anyday....We are to old and to slow up front....Smith was a good Steeler. Now he is overpaid and injury prone.

It's soooooo good to have Aaron back! He is the glue that holds that DL together and I'm looking forward to watching him make turf pizzas out of our opponents. :tt02:

Defensive end Aaron Smith, 34, has been working out daily at the Steelers' facility and believes he can come back strong in 2010 after rotator cuff surgery ended his season last Oct. 11. "It's all how you perform," Smith said. "I don't think my body is wearing down. As far as me going out and performing, that will be the criteria, just like a guy in this second year trying to make the team. If you don't go out and do the job, you're too old." Smith has started at left end for 10 mostly injury-free years but he tore his right rotator cuff in the second game of last season after a biceps tear prematurely ended his 2007 season. Before his latest injury, he was as dominant as ever and showing no signs of slowing down.

"When they looked at it, it was a clean tear," Smith said. "There was no degeneration, like I had broken down the fibers and wore it out. They said it was just a fluke thing. That was a good sign, and that's why I would have a good result with the surgery. It's not like it's degenerated over time, it was just one of those weird injuries. It was just luck of the draw. I should have brought a lottery ticket or something."

What she said. Both seasons that Aaron was out with injuries, we sucked.

Welcome back, Aaron!

Its comforting to know that If Smith should go down again we have Hood. With a year under his belt Smiths absent might not be so detrimental.

I think our D will return to 2008 form. With Smith healthy, plus resigning of Big Snack and another year under Hood's belt will make run D much better than 09. Giving Ryan Clark some competition will help that position improve. Troy healthy is...well...we all know what that means to the team. LB still solid...I think Foote and Fox will be great backups. Only hole is at CB. Ike will be solid...just need to draft that kid from Boise State. I'm predicting 10 points per game average and under 300 yards per game. Here we go...
