View Full Version : Will the Steelers do better vs. the AFC North in 2010?

To put in further perspective on how miserable 2009 was, the Steelers went 2-4 vs. the AFC North last year. After going 12-1 combined in 2007 and 2008. Including the win against the Rats in the AFC Title game.

So it begs the question. With so many question marks surrounding this team, will they do better?

Last year was a fluke. They lost to Browns. The last time Ben Roethlisberger lost in the state of Ohio he was in College and even a blind squirrel finds a nut. I have no doubt that the steelers will be just fine in the AFC North!

I have a hard time reaching a conclusion on this one. I think we are doing things to improve, but I also think that Baltimore and Cincy are improving as well. (All of this on paper, anyway.)

Edman, I think they will in all honesty. They are or should be better on defense coming into 2010. And with a totally healthy Aaron Smith on the D Line and Troy Polomalu back in the secondary they should be a Whole Lot Better. Unless the Steelers get a chance at one of the Top Off Linemen in this draft I think they go Defense.
The Bengals can be pretty good again this year if they can find someone to take some pressure off Ochostinko and add a TE to help in the passing game as well. Their #1 pick from last year.. the big OLineman will be back and should be ready to start which makes them even stronger. Their team goes as far as their Running game and Improving Defense takes them.
The Browns should be pretty much improved with the additions in the Front Office. Their Running game is stoudt, but the play 2 of the best in the league vs the Run. The QB situation will determine how good they do this year.
The Ravens, well their Defense and Running games are the most important things to them until they find some help in the passing game and its time for Slacco to prove he can gett'er done when the running game isnt doing it.

Hopefully, but don't forget, this is an AFC North that is getting much better. This division has never been easy, and even the Browns found a little momentum there at the end.

Depends on 3 things imo:

1: We MUST get our secondary shored up.

2: We MUST avoid major injuries.

3: We MUST get better play-calling on offense.

If we improve in all 3 areas the sky is the limit imo.

I think the answer is a confident and unequivocal yes. I mean, maybe people forgot the final scores to most of those games last year, but If the same offense from 09 and the defense from 08 shows, there's really no reason they should lose to anyone (let alone the division). Yeah, there's invariably going to be that WTF-game like there is every year, but they're no longer the defending champions and after the blunders of last season I think everyone in our division is going to be a little over confident (Yes, even the Browns). Time will tell, but now that we know for sure that Ben's still QBing, I feel pretty confident as well. :tt02:

I think alot of it depends on the draft and how much we can help out our defense. Hopefully we will have a healthy Troy that will play all year and have some guys step up if we need them. I can't wait to see what Hood can bring to the table this year. We should do alot better against the AFC North this year in my opinion.

It would be hard to do that badly again.

In all honesty, this is still a Super Bowl contending team, and it's still pretty amazing the way we completely lost our shit last season.

I think that losing streak against all those bottom feeder teams hurt our fanbase bad. The plus is we were coming off a SB winning season which is always great no matter what happened the following year.

But injuries to Troy and Smith along with Ike Taylor and William Gay not producing was our ultimate demise IMO. I don't think either player had an INT until the end of the season?

We should be better. We should go back to sweeping the Clowns.

Ike Taylor is a great corner in my opinion. William Gay on the other hand must be replaced ASAP.. I think a lot of signs point to Kyle Wilson, and if that's the case, then our defense should be reminiscent of '08.

Our offense should be fantastic.. all the starters are returning. I wouldn't mind a better right-guard, but other than that one gap I think our O-Line will be fine having built more chemistry.

Our specials should be better with Arnaz Battle and Will Allen.. and hopefully this new coach can do some positive things..

As always, we will ball with anyone. The AFC North is ours to lose..

I am at the notion that the every team in this division except maybe the Browns feel like they can win this division. And we all have good cases in my opinion. But the Ravens are getting old on defense just as fast as we are and the Bengals continue to get younger on that side of the ball. Carson Palmer has to prove that he can still get in done in the passing game, cuz in my opinion he didnt prove it last year.
