Do you take if it is available at 18th rank?

I would say it depends who else is there at 18 as well.

No, because....

1) Character issues

2) Mediocre combine

3) Overrated, could easily make it or break it in the NFL

4) Probably wont be the BPA anyways, and we have other needs

I think we can get carlton mitchell later in the draft and i believe this kid will be an absolute steal.

Nope. Too many issues with him and we have much bigger needs.

Dez could end up catching for over 25,000 Yds, and 500 TD's,,and I still would not take him. Forget his Character. His work ethic sucks. I mean at his OWN private workout,,the guy refused to finish some of the drilss cause of frustrations. I mean if that don't tell all. I think we could use a WR. But give me a guy like UT Jordan Shipley any day over Dez Bryant.

Bryant has as much chance to be a Steeler as T.O. does....None

I agree that we don't need one right now. But next year will be a different story. With Holmes' recent issues including a 4-game suspension for substance abuse and the rumors that he will no longer be a Steeler when his current contract runs out, we'll need one in the future. I just don't think this is the year we draft a receiver high as we don't need one immediately.

And the echo everyone else's sentiments, we have much bigger needs.

I agree with the majority, we have other needs and WR is not one of them.

Yeah this guy looks like a middle round sleeper....he looks like a playmaker but I would rather have an Anquan Boldin type guy in Benn!!!! But either way he would be a great pick up in the 3-5 rounds but I doubt he will make it to the 4 or 5th!......

um, we could easily go from loaded at WR, to very scarce at the same position in one year. With Santonio's offseason problems, he could get traded or released. Hines still has 4 years left on his contract, but a string of injuries suggest that maybe he wont survive that long. Sweed probably wont be around. Who does that leave us with? Wallace, ARE (who is in his 30's), and Battle (who is also in his 30's, and only a mediocre 3rd wide receiver). Um yeah, change is quick in the NFL huh? We've brought in some high profile wide receivers for a reason.

If the steelers have;

* conceeded that they will not be bringing holmes back for a new contract

* he is going to be suspended for a part of next season

* they already have a trade partner for the draft that desperately want him.

I would possibly consider taking Bryant at #18. I would be more likely to use the traded pick to grab a Demaryius Thomas or Golden Tate.

Never say Never.

I could see them trying to work themselves into position to take Tate.

We'll be seeing in just a few short days. Man, I've got to go pick up about 5 lb of wings. I've alread got the beer for the race this weekend.

he could be santonio holmes jr but we have to go receiver now. we were slightly better than average prior to holmes being traded. now we are below that. and against teams such as the bengals and jets, we are going to struggle big time. dez bryant has big time potential but he is also a diva. i don't believe we go there but what else do we have? right now, i see us a 8-8 or 9-7 team. OL, secondary, and now the WR postion are huge problems.

i dont think we have to go receiver at all we still have some talent,o-linewill be better and the secondary will be better. i see us at 12-4 or 11-5

Doesn't make sense to draft a guy with character issues. We just got rid of a proven commodity because of character issues--why draft an unproven player with the same baggage?

Yes Pouncey! I wouldn't touch Dez Bryant. The Steelers need to get back to selecting Steeler type of Players.
I wish they would of traded Holmes to move up in the 1st or 2nd round. They could of moved up in the 2nd with Tampa or Kc OR even St louis or Detriot

jollyrob68
04-12-2010, 01:12 PM
They need to Stick to their board and make some moves with those additional 5th round picks.
I think they'll move back with the JETS and get a 2nd rounder.

you never know. At the time of jets pick round 2 or 3 the steelers call them and tellem who to pick..then after they pick they trade that player to us for the same 5th rounder... lol

Gil Brandt on Sirius Radio last week I think it was pointed it out that Dez Bryant's statistics vs different opponents speaks for themselves. VS Top Notch Competition he was Average or Below Average, against the Lower Tier Teams he was Extrodinary. I dont think I will say anything else . . . I Dont Want Him

we have 11 pick to move up in 3rd or 4th for wr.
only WR that i like in 1-2 is Golden Tate (Notre Dame) 5'11" 195 4.44 a faster ward.
in 3rd Carlton Mitchell (South Flordia)6'4" 212 4.45 or Taylor Price (Ohio) 6'0" 198 4.36
4-5 Riley Cooper (Flordia) 6'4" 214 4.49

I would rather have Damian Williams out of USC instead of Mardy Gilyard from Cincy!!!! Everyone seems to forget about D. Williams...he did a lot of things for USC wether returning kicks or running different types of routes in USC's pro style offense!!!!! I would love this guy if G. Tate, A. Benn, A. Thomas or D. Dickerson aren't there in the 2nd!!! This guy is a playmaker with game speed!!!! I think he might be a possibility in the 2nd and a lot of people seem to have forgotten about him......I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers take him in the 2nd or trade up in the early 3rd if he slips.....

Are you crazy? This is just the guy to help us put away Cleveland, Oakland, Detroit and KC

Are there serious character issues with Bryant?

- he's apparently late to everything
- He accepts Deion Sanders as a mentor. (pretty bad I guess)
- NCAA suspended him for the above.

Doesn't seem mailicious or anything, However I read this on walterfotball:

Unfortunately, he dropped some passes in the drills, but anyone familiar with his game shouldn't be surprised by that, as he has lapses in concentration at times

Sounds too sweedy for me.

I kinda see the comparison but he's nowhere near as physical as marshall!!!! Mitchell to me is between sweed n marshall.....mitchell is athletic for his size n he would be a great pickup in the 4th round!!
