I know that Tony put a lot of work into making it and it if a forum thread could be an art form this would be it.

Let me get it back, baby, where I come from.
Ben a long time, Ben a long time,
Ben a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.
Yes it has.
Ben a long time since the book of love,
I cant count the tears of a life with no love.
Carry me back, carry me back,
Carry me back, baby, where I come from.
Ben a long time, Ben a long time,
Ben a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.
Seems so long since we walked in the moonlight,
Making vows that just cant work right.
Open your arms, opens your arms,
Open your arms, baby, let my love come running in.
Ben a long time, Ben a long time,

Bens best stats are TEAM ones. Ben is so inconsistent that he barely squeeks out wins, I bet his defense loves that lol. Ben has made a CAREER of feasting off of average, mediocre or pityful defenses. But against top Defenses? He is mediocre. Lets take a look, shall we?

09

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense

Ravens #2 in Total Defense - Ben was 17-33 259 1 TD 1 int ELITE? HARDLY LOL Take away the 45 yard YAC by Wallace Ben is BELOW average vs. A GOOD D. TELLING. Ben produced 2 TD's

Packers #3- Ben did well vs. this Defense. 3rd overall BUT only TWELTH vs. the pass. Not to mention that TWO Dbs were injured for the Steelers game. Ben took advantage of a injured secondary (remember you HOMERS always cite Bens injury in 06 as an excuse so don't hate on me for doing the same thing). However, Ben played up to his abilities in this game. No problem with giving him credit on this day. Again- Exception to the rule

Vikings #4- 14-26 175 1 Td. ELITE? HARDLY. Again, Wallace Bails him out again with a fair catch TD of a punt. I mean pass by Ben. A pass Wallace had to stop, wave his hand and then catch. Ben produced 1 TD and 2fgs. THIRTEEN POINTS. Defense won this game.

#5 Bengals (2) Game 1- 22-31- 276 1 TD 1int. ELITE? Again, Wallace catches a long pass that should have been SIX but the inconsistent one led him out of bounds with the poor pass. The inconsistent one also overthrew a wide open Hines for six as well as Tone for six. Yes Limas dropped a Td that was like George Washingtons face- On The Money. But WHY does that failed TD get more recognition than the THREE that Ben failed on? Ben produced TWO TD's.

#5 Bengals Game 2. 20-40- 171 1 INT ELITE? He was sacked four times and his passer rating of 51.5 was his lowest since a 38.6 in a loss to the Giants (ANOTHER GOOD D) Ben produced NO TD's.

#7 Broncos- 21-29- 233 3TD's 1 int. These stats were aided by a strong performance from our Defense. Tyrone took one to the house. The Defense also got 2 more picks to put us in position to score and Ben took advantage of the good field position and got tds. This is how you utilize a strong D. You reward them by executing well and putting the dagger into the oppposition by scoring TD's. Notice how the game wasn't close? That's how MOST of our games should be, considering the strength of our D.

Now contrast These stats to the TEN games vs. poor defenses. NOW do you see where Ben did his damage at? Excluding the Packer game of course. He played EXCELLENT that game!

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense/year/2008

#2 Ravens (2)- Game 1 Ben was 14-24-191 1 TD 1 INT Sacked 3 Times. Benefited from ANOTHER TD from the defense (Woodley). Benefited from Tone taking a short pass and making it a big play/yac. Hines Also had a 49 yard catch and run, that bolstered Bens pedestrian stats. Having said that, they were still pedestrian despite that. ONE TD Produced by your ELITE qb.

Game 2 vs. Ravens 22-40-246 1TD Sacked 3 Times. ELITE? Hardly. The defense held the Ravens to NINE points and all we could muster was 13. Last second pass to Tone for the TD was clutch but long overdue. The Ravens shouldn't have even been in this game. Ben also lost a fumble this game. ONE TD. ELITE?? LOL

#3 Eagles- The inconsistent one was 13-25-131 1 INT 2 lost fumbles and EIGHT SACKS LOL. Ben produced TWO fgs and gave them 2 more points with a BONEHEADED safety in the end zone. Slow to process the info (Did the same thing vs. the Browns in 09 by the goaline. Took a terrible sack). Leftwich had almost half Bens yardage in ONE drive. He burnt the blitz over and over. Made Jim Johnson stop blitzing. If Nate catches the TD Leftwich throws him that game would have been winnable.

#4 Skins- Ben got hurt late 2nd qtr. So he only played one half. He benefited from a blocked punt. He still played poorly. He was 5- 17- 50 yards and 1 INT and was sacked 5 times.. Leftwich comes in and he goes 7-10-129 and 1 TD not sacked once. Not saying Byron is better. He can just read a defense, faster.

#5 Giants- 13-29-199 1 TD FOUR INTS and 1 lost fumble. Also sacked FIVE times. Ben played like crap in this game and we STILL should have won. We were leading until the Harrison safety. An example of how our STRONG Defense aids Ben.

#7 Titans- 25-39-329 2 TD's 2INT's 5 SACKS, 2 lost Fumbles (one on the Titans ONE). Again, our defense put us in position to win this game but LETHARGIC one made it impossible to do so. The Griffin pick six was the nail in the coffin. UGH

#8 Cowboys- Ben 17-33-204 1TD, 5 sacks and 1 lost fumble. Ben could only produce two fgs. It was the DEFENSE on the int by Ike that set up Heaths td from ben. Townsends pick 6 won the game. Ben again putrid vs. a good defense.

#10 Pats 17-33-179 2TDS 1 INT 1 lost fumble. With no Brady the Pats were no match for our team. We controlled the ball and ran all over them. Kinda like the 04 game with Plax (reg season).Mewelde and Willie were the reasons for this win. Ben, AGAIN, played mediocre vs. a good D. SEE A PATTERN?

#11 Colts- Ben was 29-41-3INTS and 2 sacks. Worth noting-Peyton was 21-40-240 and 3 TD's. VS THE #1 DEFENSE.

Vs #2 Ravens AFCCG 16-33-255-1TD, 1 fumble lost and 4 sacks. We won this game based on the int by Polamalu and the great YAC by Tone.

07

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense/year/2007

#4 Pats- 19-32-187- 1 TD, 3 sacks and 1 fumble lost ( Brady was 32-46-399- 4TD's VS THE # 1 D

#6 Ravens (2) Game 1 Ben- 13-16-209 5 TD's. Monday Night game in those UGLY throwbacks. It was an epic game by Ben. Again, there is always an exception to every rule. Hats off Ben played GREAT.

Ravens Game 2- Ben sat out-resting for playoffs.

#12 Jags- 15-32-142- 3 TD's and 5 sacks. A classic case of too little too late as the LETHARGIC one only generates SEVEN points through 3 qtrs. Plays up to his potential in the 4th. Too late.

#12 Jags in playoffs-The inconsistent one does the same thing he did in the Regular season vs. this D. Plays horrible early and comes on strong late to make the HOMERS forget about the pick 6 he threw to Mathis. Stats Ben- 29-42-337 2 TD's, 3 INT's AND SIX sacks and 1 lost fumble. I remember after this game the Steeler Nation attacked Tomlin for going for two points after the holding call. That call didn't lose the game. Ben's horrible 1st half did. You can NEVER get points back. But as usual, Ben can do no wrong. LOL

You NOW know why Ben had such a good statistical season in 07. NO GOOD DEFENSES ON THE SCHEDULE. Contrast that with 08. SEE THE DIFFERENCE?

06

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense/year/2006

#1 Ravens Game 1 Ben 21-41-214 and 2 INT's, NINE SACKS and one fumble lost for a TD. A. Thomas. The Ravens shut us out. The inconsistent one AGAIN, struggles against a top D.

#1 Ravens Game 2 Ben 15-31-156 1TD and 2INT's, 5 SACKS. So in TWO games vs. the #1 D he had ONE TD and FOUR INTS. I KNOW I KNOW he was hurt. LOL

#2 Jags-17-32-141 0 TD's and 2 INT'S. 2 Sack. Ben continued his trend of hitting his favorite receiver (Rashean Mathis) who picked him twice- AGAIN. Inconsistent Ben produced ZERO points in this game. I know I know "HE WAS HURT HE WAS HURT"

#3 Raiders Ben was 25-37-301 1TD and FOUR ints. And 5 sacks. Including TWO pick six's. Didn't I say Ben has HABITUALLY sucked in the redzone his WHOLE career? FACT. I know I know. HE WAS ALMOST KILLED IN JUNE. LOL. Worth Noting- the opposing qb (Walter) was 5-14-51 yards and one int. AND HE WON. I bet the DEFENSE was ticked off at the inconsistent ONE LOL. Elite Ben managed THIRTEEN points.

#7 Carolina Ben was 10-17-125 1 TD and 3 sacks.

#10 Chargers 20-31-220 2 INTS and 5 Sacks. You guys this is too easy. You CANT use the excuse that "he was hurt". or it was Arians, or the line. I am proving that Ben is what I say he is. A good qb that plays with a strong defense. He puts up ok numbers vs. Good defenses or he sucks royally vs. them. This with Arians, Whiz, Good Line, Average Line, "Bad Line".

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense/year/2005

#2 Bears 13-20-173 1TD zero sacks.

#5 Ravens Game 1 18-30-177 2TD's, 1 INT.2 sacks. I'm waiting for this guy to LIGHT UP AN ELITE D. YAWN

#5 Ravens Game 2 (Didn't play)

#11 Colts 17-26-133 1 TD 2INTS, 3 sacks.

#11 Colts playoffs 14-24-197 2TD's, 1 INT,2 sacks. Ben started off fast. I was loving this game. Then in the 2nd half the inconsistent one surfaced. Managed 7 WHOLE points the 2nd half. ENTER EXCUSES (Cowher, Whiz) . Ben made a great tackle on a STUPID Bettis fumble. PROPS FOR THAT!!

04

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense/year/2004

#3 Skins Super Ben was 9-20-131 NO TD's O INTS. 4 Sacks

#6 Ravens. The 1st Raven game was when Ben got his chance after Maddox got hurt. These stats are from game 2 vs. the Ravens. 14-19-221 2 TD's 1 INT. O Sacks

#7 Jets- 9-19-144 0 TD's 2INT's.

#9 Pats (reg season) 18-24-196 2 TD's 0 sacks. I remember this game! Nice Long ball to Plax. Ben played well. Int by Townsend- to the house. We controlled the ball for most of the game. If I recall right it was like 40 minutes.

#9 Pats (AFCCG) 14-24-226 2 TD's 3 INT's 1 Sack. Ben was a rookie and he played like it. UGH. Call it cheating, call it whatever but Ben sucked in this game like HIS PATTERN vs. elite defenses.

There you have it HOMER PYLES. As I have PROVED. Ben Roethlisberger makes a living feasting off of bad defenses. Put him up against an elite one and he is not so elite as I have ALWAYS said. He wins BECAUSE OF HIS DEFENSE and because he is on the Steelers. Do explain all of this HARCORE proof as to his pedestrian or pathetic stats vs. a good defense. I didn't just list random numbers, I listed teams and years so you could CALL MY BLUFF. I dont just take ONE SEASON (BENS STATISTICAL BEST). I take his whole career and BURY YOU WITH THE TRUTH. Who cares what you say about Peyton. Waste your time. He is BETTER THAN BEN. There is a concensus on that. So it Brady,Favre and Brees. But thats not so Bad now is it?

Besides, it's not like Bradshaw was the greatest statistical QB, but you could count on him when it mattered. That's what I like about Ben. QB's like Manning, Favre, Romo and Rivers who put up nice big numbers in the regular season tend to choke like a chick in her first porn when it comes playoff time. If that's what an elite QB is, then I'm glad Ben isn't one.

Winning games are a team accolade sir. And the qb doesnt have to have a good game for us to win. See SB 40 and the Vikings game last season among others. Rivers is the PRIMARY reason the Chargers are good. Our DEFENSE is the PRIMARY reason we are good. Ben was good last season but the defense was not and what happened? We missed the playoffs. Ben was average in 08 (17 and 15) but the defense was GREAT and we won the Super Bowl. Get it? I know you dont.

Uh the defense had held one of the highest scoring offenses to 7 points. They were tired. The score was 20-7 with ben throwing 68 YARDS. Had we scored some TDs we would have blew them out. There shouldnt have been a need to come back, thats my point. Funny the writers didnt deem Ben MVP worthy. Do you know why? Because he didnt do squat till the last quarter. What Ben threads? Old ones? This one? Most of the postings I see on Ben right now are hijackings of threads for other topics.

This one is obviously a joke thread, doesn't even apply.

Old ones were moderated, personal attacks were not allowed (though differing opinions were).

With little to no moderation going on around here, many threads have become nothing but off topic dribble that a few select posters chose to use in order to get their point across in the most crass way possible. The majority of regular members aren't going to post in them, let alone sit down and read 10-15 pages of it.

I never said that Ben was a BETTER quarterback than manning. All I was saying is that Ben is an elite QB. You want to base a QB's success only on stats. I'd rather take into consideration wins, Lombardis, and how they perform in the big games.

Now I know you're going to come back with "but Ben's stats sucked in the Super Bowls and they won because of the defense." Sure, Ben didn't exactly light it up, but he made plays when he had to and didn't do anything to hurt the team, much like Neil O'Donnell or (gasp) Peyton Manning.

How am I basing success on stats? Who had the MOST WINS in the last 10 years? Its Peyton Manning sir. Ben got a Lombardi vs the Seahawks and he played terrible. Ben is on a better team so he should have more rings. Do you HONESTLY think if we had Peyton Manning we would miss the playoffs? EVER? I dont. Big games? How did Ben perform in the AFCCG vs the Pats? How did he perform the next year vs the Seahawks. He stunk it up for 3 quarters in SB 43. The man passed for SIXTY-EIGHT yards with 11:34 left in the game, then he turned it on. I posted every game of his career vs a good defense and he has mediocre or bad stats. WE won the friggin SB in 08 with the man having 23 turnovers lol. Mannng is the primary reason the Colts are good. Ben is not the Primary reason we are good. When we do well in his absence what will your excuse be? Ben has ONE TD and THREE ints in two Super Bowls. Sorry, If I dont agree with you. By your reasoning Ike Taylor can say he is better than Champ Bailey because he got a pick in SB 40 when it counted to ice the game. Come on........

Give Ben the Colts' offensive line and offensive coordinator and I guarantee he has much better stats. Do you actually watch the games or just read the game stats??

That line looked like ours when Peyton went to the bench vs the Jets. Remember they were undefeated. The first play Peyton went out in the 3rd what happened? Thats right Peyton makes that line with quick reads as well as the OC. Why doesnt Ben change Arians bad calls at the line like the elite qbs do? The elite qbs make the OC non existent. Why hasnt Tom Moore gotten a gig? Because everyone knows its manning. How about the Pats line? Is it good? Yep, when Brady is behind center. Brady gets sacked in the teens in 07. He gets hurt in 08 and Cassel gets sacked 46 times. What happened to the great line? Its not the line, its the qb and his ability to process the information fast and get the ball out. Same with the Saints. How was that line Pre Brees? Ad Brees now its great. Your not that naive are you? Yep. Our line is fine too as long as Ben is not behind it. The sack problem is on Ben. In 08 Ben is harrassed by the Browns (the made him leave on a gurney) and Skins were all over him. Ben gets hurt enter Leftwich and no sack problems. Dixon starts vs the Ravens, 26 passes not one sack. Game 2 vs Ravens, Ben plays and he is sacked 4 times. Hell ben played in the frickin Pro Bowl in 07 the AFC was sacked twice....... you guessed it, only Ben was sacked. BEHIND A ALL PRO LINE AND A NO BLITZ RULE LOL

The video makes my point. Ben doesnt process the information fast enough. He doesnt see the blitz in his pre snap read. If he did, he should hot route to a saftey valve but no he sends guys on long routes. Just dumb. You wont see that with Leftwich in there. What will your excuse be then?

I tend to agree with you on the sack issue. Not about Ben in general, but as far as sacks go, I believe about half are Ben's issue. He tends to hold the ball, but he also has made a lot of big plays by moving within the pocket. So, I'm willing to take some of those sacks as a trade off for some big plays downfield. Do I wish he hit a quick slant for 7 yards instead of a sack sometimes? sure I do. But I'll take the good with the bad.

Dixon played against a tough Raven D who routinely sacks Ben 3-5 times when we play them. In his first start ever, Dixon took exactly 0 sacks with 26 attempts. He also had 1 designed run for + yards. He only threw 1 pick and that was OT. But, we lost. Not enough big plays or sustained drives to win and a rookie mistake getting baiting into a bad throw in OT.
I think Ben finds a way to win that game and that is all that really matters to me.

I concede that FACT. Ben has made a lot of Big plays by running around, ham and egging. But bro this is the NFL, you cannot make a career out of running around undisciplined. DC's will loop the ends to take away his escape routes. What about in 3 more years when Ben becomes less elusive? What do we do then? At some point this guy has got to learn to sit in the pocket and make it easier for his linemen to block for him. You mentioned the good with the bad. I dont see it as such. Ben has been sacked 242 times in his career. Has he made 242 big plays? Even half of that? A third? No. So there is no trade off, these sacks kill the offense. It puts your offense in less than manageable 3rd downs and if you look at our 3rd down % it is not good. If you look at our red zone %, its not good. 23rd in the league to be exact and thats due to the qb processing the information too slow. You are correct we lost to the Ravens with Dixon but it was his 1st start. When Maddox got hurt and ben came in vs the Ravens in 04 did we win? What about that same season in the AFCCG? We lost big to the Pats. I bet your excuse was "Ben was young and inexperienced and thats why we lost". I agree but why doesnt the same excuse work for Dixon? Look. I know Ben is not perfect, but we haven't had a real QB since Bradshaw and now we do. In the 25 years from Bradshaw retiring to us drafting Ben, no SB's. In 6 years since Ben, 2 SB's, 4 playoff appearances, no losing seasons. I'm OK with what we've got at QB. You make this guy out to be a lousy QB, but that's just not the case. Lots of room for improvement, but far from a bad QB.

I would also debate that he probably made 242 big plays. A sack isn't always the end of the world. An int is much worse. Sacks kill drives a lot, but not always. And if they do kill the drive, you punt and play D. A big play in my opinion would be a first down on a 3rd down and more than 5. If he takes 3 sacks in a game (which is about his average), but gets the team 1 TD by saving a drive with a sandlot play, that's a tradeoff I'm willing to make.

I don't feel like we win either SB in 05 or 08 with more than 5 other QB's in the league. And I'm not just talking about the actual SB game itself, but the run to the SB as well. In 05, we ran the ball all season. Then we got to the playoffs and smacked Cincy, Indy, and Denver through the air. I know the D was incredible, but we got big leads against Indy and Denver slinging the ball all over the place.
The other thing about Ben is I almost never feel we're done. Used to be the Steelers got down 10 points, game over. You knew they couldn't come back. Now, I always feel we've got a chance.
This guy can play, enjoy the ride while we got him. I think this guys got at least 1 more SB run in him too. I think we as fans may all be sorry when he's gone.

Those SB had nothing to do with Bens performance. Shall I post again Ben has ONE TD and THREE ints in both of those games. Zero SB Mvps how you can credit Ben as the primary reason we have won is laughable. We were up 20-7 on the Cards with Ben passing for SIXTY EIGHT yards. Whats that tell you? I know I know it tells you that we were successful because of Ben lol. When we go 4-0 or 3-1 without him what will you say? Is Ben better than ALL of the Qbs post Bradshaw? OF COURSE HE IS. But dont say we have two SBs JUST BECAUSE OF BEN thats absurd. We have missed TWO playoffs after winning those Super Bowls too. So whos fault is that? Ben gets the credit when we win but NO BLAME when we dont. How does that work? I call it a bias. You said I make Ben out to be a lousy Qb. How is that? I say BEN IS GOOD. BEN IS A WINNER. But I dont think Ben is elite. Now how does GOOD get confused with LOUSY?
You said he has made 242 big plays? Oh really? I have documented EVERY game of his vs a good defense. His stats are bad, very bad. I challenge you to do the same in regards to his big plays. You said you can name 242, I only want half of that, lets see what you come up with. Sacks arent the end of the world? No they only put you in unmanageable 3rd downs that are hard to convert. Why do you think we suck on 3rd down conversion pct? SACKS. A big play is NOT a conversion of 3rd and 5 etc that is laughable. In that case then Neil O'donnell is great because he was very efficient in that regard. NICE TRY WOW.
Why do you ALL regurgitate the same arguments? The road to the Super Bowl means squat if you dont win so its irrelevant. Nein O'donnel had a good road to the SB, he was very efficient so do you credit him for that or does his bad play in the SB eliminate his efficiency before it? DOUBLE STANDARD. If we play a better team than the Seahaws WE LOSE based on the bad play by the Qb JUST Like in SB 30.
We lost 5 games to inferior teams WITH Ben. Its the defenses fault. I know I know. The defense also led us to the SB in 08 while Ben threw 17 tds and had 15 ints and 8fumbles lost. THATS TWENTY THREE turnovers by your great qb and we STILL won. When the defeense wasnt up to snuff we went 9-7 with Ben playing his best. PROOF that Ben is not the primary reason we win, THE DEFENSE IS. Lastly, Ben has NEVER brought us back from a deficit of more than 13 points. EVER.

So you're saying a sack for the defense is a much bigger play than a first down on a 3rd and long for the offense. LOL. You're over valueing the sack. INT, maybe. But not a sack. What do you consider as big a play for the offense as a sack is for the defense? A 68 yard TD pass. Well then, I guess I can't come up with 242 or even 121 plays.
all I'm saying is an avg. sack for the defense is not much bigger of a play than picking up a 3rd and long on offense. You're treating his sack total as a be all end all to his success. If Ben averages 3 sacks per game, which he does, and picks up 2 or 3 first downs he may not have if he hadn't held the ball, I'm ok with that. one of those drives he extends may turn into a scoring drive. I realize the sack may also kill a drive, but I've seen it go both ways. I think what you need to do is look at big picture. His overall record and 2 SB's in 6 years is all that matters. I realize he didn't win those by himself. In fact, we won the Seahawk game in spite of him. But, I don't even think we're in that game with Maddox or 20 of the other NFL QB's that year.

Roethlisberger Could Become the NFL's King of Comebacks2

Last week the Pro Football Reference blog used some excellent research to show that the Broncos' proclamation that John Elway was the king of comebacks is not exactly accurate.

If you take away the games where Elway led the Broncos to wins in games that were tied in the fourth quarter and rely solely on fourth quarter come-from-behind victories, Dan Marino actually has the most recorded fourth-quarter comebacks with 36 compared to Elway's 34.

But seeing that got me thinking. Ben Roethlisberger has been pretty masterful at coming from behind during his short career, but how good has he been. The answer is very good. He's only five seasons into his career, but right now Ben Roethlisberger is on pace to outdo Elway and Marino.

Only five seasons into his career, Roethlisberger already has 15 come-from-behind fourth-quarter victories -- as many as "Captain Comeback" Roger Staubach, including of course his most famous comeback last January in the Super Bowl. Elway played 15 seasons and Marino played 17 seasons. If Roethlisberger plays as long as Elway did, he's on pace for 45 fourth quarter come-from-behind victories. Peyton Manning could have topped Marino by then; he has 28 in 11 seasons, so the record is in his sights.

To give you a better idea of how remarkable Roethlisberger is at authoring comebacks, he had six in his rookie season. Chad Pennington, a relatively solid quarterback with a nine-year career, has seven. Roethlisberger has only one Pro Bowl appearance right now, but with two Super Bowl rings, he's already edging towards Hall of Fame status. There are 10 quarterbacks who have won two or more Super Bowls. Seven of them are in the Hall of Fame and two (Roethlisberger and Tom Brady) are not eligible yet. But if Roethlisberger can land the comeback "record" as well, it will just add to his Hall of Fame chances.

That would be fine IF we had an effecient offense but we dont. Who's fault is that? Why was the 9er offense so efficient? Its because of Montana and Young. The Steelers have an inconsistent offense. 23rd in the league in the redzone sir. Who does that blame fall on? So you want me to give Ben all the credit but give him NONE of the blame? How does that work? Again, his record and SBs were attained because he is on the Steelers. Would he have that record on the Lions? Super Bowls? Is he that kind of Qb? I think we are in that game with Maddox. Easy.

Difference is Elway had a HORRIBLE defense. Horrible receivers and NO running game so he had to come back. However, Ben Roethlisberger has a #1 Defense, Had the #1 running game in 04, top 10 running game in 05, good receivers. WHY does he need to come back? Oh because he stinks it up for 3 quarters and the defense keep us in the game to enable that comeback. Two other writers see it like I do in regards to Ben. Here are a few exerpts.

Roethlisberger is good at shaking off sacks, but in my opinion he lets that idea get so easily to his head that he literally exhausts his offensive line to dried up prunes. Not to mention that Roethlisberger's offensive line is far younger than Rodgers.
To me, if Rodgers deserves criticism for his sacks, then so does Roethlisberger.
Ben Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl rings, which to me would be the most damning evidence that he is indeed, an elite quarterback. But has anyone paid attention to their defense?
The Steelers defense was statistically the best defense in the league for two straight years (2007—2008). The stought defense featured the likes of Troy Polamalu, Lamar Woodley, James Harrison, etc.
Most experts agree and will tell you that to win the Super Bowl, you either need a defense like the Baltimore Ravens or an elite quarterback like a Joe Montana or Tom Brady.
If you look through the past, you will find very few exceptions. The Steelers recently have had the players, the coordinator and all the ingredients they need for a Super Bowl title—contending defense.
My point is that Ben Roethlisberger did not bring the Steelers to those two Super Bowl championships, their defense did. Again, I would like to reiterate the fact that I'm not trying to say that Roethlisberger is a bad quarterback.
Put it this way. What if you were switch Philip Rivers and Ben? Do you think that Ben would still have his two superbowl rings? Or what if you were to switch him with Matt Schaub? Would Ben still have his superbowl rings in Houston? I think the obvious answer is no.
I'm just saying that it's bonkers to think that he's as elite as the all—time greats. So simply put, Roethlisberger did not single—handily earn those Super Bowl rings and therefore, in my opinion, the Super Bowl ring argument is not valid.
Look at Peyton Manning. His defense ranked eighteenth last season and he sill made it to the Super Bowl. Additionally, the Colts defense was actually ranked twenty—first in league when he won the Super Bowl in 2007!

Another article, this was written after the Titan game last season.

Another thing that they probably won't mention is that the success of the Steelers, since Ben Roethlisberger has entered the league, has been inversely proportionate to the number of passes that he has thrown. In other words, the more he throws the ball, the more they lose. The less they rely on him, the more they win.

The Steelers are 15-0 in games where Ben throws less than 20 passes. They are 19-2 when he throws between 20 and 24 passes. When he throws between 25-30 passes, they are 11-5. When Ben Roethlisberger throws more than 30 passes, the Pittsburgh Steelers are 9-14... a losing football team.

So is Ben Roethlisberger really an elite quarterback? Absolutely not. He's a good quarterback, and I'm sure Steelers fans are satisfied with the results that they have seen in the past 5 years. However, there are several quarterbacks that could have accomplished the same thing, if they were in the same situation as Roethlisberger. They might not have the rings, but neither did Dan Marino. Is there any doubt that he's better than Roethlisberger? There shouldn't be.

For once, let's look at the situation with some semblance of reality, and place Ben Roethlisberger exactly where he belongs... squarely in the top 10 among NFL QB's. Any worse, and you're not giving him any credit. But any more than that, and you're just not paying attention.

if you want to just hump QB's then go for the 49'ers,... and pray for another Steve Young or whatever, if all you know about football is QB's ????

ya know, even Bradshaw with his 4 SB rings wasn't the only good Steeler, equally it was the Steel Curtain -the Jack Lamberts, Blount, Greene, Ham.... these are things that built the House of the Steelers' baby ! -dats why its called the "Grid Iron".

the same holds true for our last 2 SB's.

You are right Bradshaw was not the only good Steeler. HOWEVER, he put points on the board and complimented that great defense. There werent a lot of white knuckle games and comebacks. There were no need for them. His execution put us comfortably ahead.
