View Full Version : A modest proposal for the Roethlisberger haters

Since so many of you are "done with" Ben Roethlisberger, I'd like to submit a modest proposal: if Roethlisberger is either traded or released, then you may continue to cheer for the Steelers. If not, then you willingly and irrevocably excommunicate yourselves from Steeler Nation. After all, having such disdain for one of the players will certainly interfere with your ability to cheer for the team, now won't it? It really appears to have reached this point. Plain and simple, either Roethlisberger goes, or YOU go! And if you can't stomach the thought of cheering for another team if Roethlisberger stays, then you will agree to SHUT THE MOTHER**** UP about him unless we're discussing his performance on the field, or he gets himself into trouble again! And don't you DARE assume that he will, because you know no more about the future than I or anybody else does! I want Roethlisberger to stop being a stupid, arrogant jock just like everybody else does, but I also want all of you neo-Pharisees to stop being sanctimonious pricks! And if that's too much to ask, then you simply MUST LEAVE if Roethlisberger stays! I'm standing by my goddamn QB until he gets in trouble again -- if he ever even does!

I see no such proposal in any of those threads.

I think the 'proposal' falls right in line with all the other discussions about Ben.

Here's my proposal. I'll think and say what I want without shutting the mf up.

I don't know about that. I mean, we pick on everyone else for their off-the-field problems. The Bengals getting half the team arrested, Ray Lewis stabbing people to death, Tom Brady taking it up the stink tube ... it's just human nature to bring that up, I guess.

You can dislike a player and still support the team. After all, I don't like Matt Cooke and still support the Pens. My big issue is that Ben hasn't been charged with anything other than being a jerk, and we have people who want him off the team. Sorry, but I'm not going to take a holier-than-thou attitude and act like I'm so morally superior to him that I want him gone. Now if a crime had been committed and he was charged, then yeah, get rid of him...but there wasn't and he wasn't. We have all done stupid shit in our lives - why should athletes be held to a different standard?

I'd still like the "haters" to get their wish, though, just to see them boo-hoo when the new QB blows another game or a Super Bowl, while Ben tears it up with another team. It would be even funnier if Ben came back to torch the Steelers or keep them from a Super Bowl.

The "haters"? Is this sentiment of the fanbase prevelant in the Burgh right now? Just curious....

Or are you referring to the forum members? I've seen very few people that actually want to see him gone.

No, that is the prevailing sentiment here in Pittsburgh, not just this board. In fact, this message board is just about the only place anywhere that the majority of the fans have given him a fair shake.

The last I heard Big Ben wasn't caught with a dead girl or a young boy so he's still my quarterback. He just needs to stop letting the little head do the thinking for the big head

I read the forum all the time, however, I don't often respond ( I have arthritis and find it difficult to type). But enough already, how about everybody quit piling on. The guy I,m sure will be punished by the Rooneys, If only for being an idiot.

However, just a thought for the uptight moral majority, including a certain Georgia DA,
everyone keeps saying what if this was your daughter. Guess what I'm a mother with a son. What if your sons name and reputation was being trashed even though he wasn't even charged. No one knows what happened. When she first talked to the police, still drunk with a.2 alcohol by the way, she said she wasn't raped. She could easily have had a sober-up moment and thought "oh My that was cheap and disgusting, I couldn't possably have done that willingly." Sorry but everyone has done something stupid while drunk in college.

It just seems unfair that she is being so protected and considered so upright and pure while Ben is a satanic rapist. I do however still think it's stupid for him to have put himself in that position. By the way, I still wore my #7 steelers sweatshirt yesterday without worry. I'm not a hypocrit and I gotta say I enjoyed the year the steelers won the superbowl far more than last year. Ben's the best chance we have to get there again. So go Ben(without trouble) and get us number 7.

You know...I was down about the whole Ben thing. I really was. But, I can't argue with your logic, so I am alright again.

My only gripe now is that Ben is kind of stupid (as is any guy who let's the little head do the thinking), and now I have to HEAR it from all the stupid Browns and Ravens fans...it will be tiresome. Thanks Ben!!!

:iagree: I think it's funny how everyone makes her out to be so innocent. Have those people ever been in a college bar or been around college students at a party? Believe me when I say that it's often the females that are the aggressors. The fact is that NO ONE other than Ben and the girl know exactly what happened and most likely she doesn't even fully remember since she was so drunk. Ben is not without fault but calling him a rapist or sexual predator is ridiculous.

I hope all this turns out well and in some years "the haters" forget about BB's antics, of course he has to shake it off by changing his behavior and winning some more Lombardis wearing Black & Gold

Ben is not without fault but calling him a rapist or sexual predator is ridiculous.

True...he has not been convicted, nor does he have be register himself as a sex offender. So yes...all the talk about him being a serial rapist or predator is completely baseless and judgmental.

That said though, he has to learn as a high-profile athlete he has to know that he has to be smarter about his actions. I'm NOT saying he should shut himself up in his house and be a hermit; however, be smarter about where you go and who you associate with. That's just common sense that applies to EVERYBODY, not just pro athletes.

Ben, you dodged a bullet this time. Next time you might not be so lucky. Time to get your :poop: together, man.
