If this is a announcement of a suspension for Ben. Then I gotta hope Ben is there to acknowledge it, and that he accepts their decision. It will just make it look better. Cause if Ben is not there. Then I suspect the Media will try to play something into that, and start saying that they hear that BEN has demanded out of Pittsburgh.
It won't be true. But then why should the truth get in the way with a good Ole Lie ?

"To my friends, colleagues and the city of Pittsburgh: Our star quarterback is an idiot and he can't keep his dick in his pants. That much is clear. I understand that many of you, the people who support the Pittsburgh Steelers, are torn because the man who has led our team to two Super Bowls is also the same guy who can't restrain himself from having sex with drunk chicks in the toilet.

This type of behavior is clearly unacceptable, but rather than fight it, I believe we can enact a solution that will be agreeable to all. Today I am here to announce that we will be breaking ground on a new $100 million masturbatorium to be constructed adjacent to Heinz Field along the Ohio River. This state-of-the-art facility will contain its own bar and nightclub, complete with restrooms and drunk chick simulators. We are also looking into the possibility of installing other amenities such as "breakaway" towel dispensers.

We believe this new facility will help the face of our franchise find a more benign outlet for his recreational urges, and I pledge to you that the next time any warning sign of inappropriate behavior arises, I will spend the couple hundred bucks myself to call him a decent escort service. It is my sincere hope that with steps like these, we can regain the trust of you, the fans and the people of Pittsburgh who make this all possible."

http://insidepittsburghsports.com/story/steelers-have-not-ruled-out-exploring-roethlisbergers-trade-value-with-nfc-teams/24625/

Cooler heads likely to prevail
A 2-4 game suspension for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appears likely but questions remain whether the Steelers are ready to move forward with their franchise quarterback.
The Rooney's and other high ranking officials are disgusted by the way star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has conducted himself off the field. Is the frustration reaching the boiling point where the team would explore trading Roethlisberger?
It is expected that the Steelers will move forward with Roethlisberger, suspend him for a few games, let him take his punishment and put the situation behind both sides.
However, ownership is so furious by the situation that internal discussions have happened on more than one occasion in the past week surrounding the possibility of exploring Roethlisberger's trade value with NFC teams.
The Steelers have not been engaged in trade talks with any teams or have put Roethlisberger on the trade block but it's been discussed internally which says a lot.
Agents around the league I've spoken with hear the St. Louis Rams are sold on Sam Bradford and would have no interest in moving their first round pick for Roethlisberger as recently speculated but teams such as Seattle and San Francisco would be very much in on Roethlisberger.
Despite the PR hit from even it's own fan base, cooler heads through the likes of top decision makers Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin will likely prevail in the end and the Steelers won't cut ties with Roethlisberger.
Trading a franchise quarterback of Roethlisberger's caliber will set the franchise back for years but what is scary is the faith that the team has in third year quarterback Dennis Dixon who has yet to even prove to be a capable backup.

I think Art Rooney is going to announce a suspension of Ben Roethlisberger for two to three games, upon whatever punishment Roger Goodell sees fit for him (so if Goodell suspsended Big Ben for four games, the Rooneys would be tacking on x amount of games to the end of that).

Then in a couple of weeks, Roger Goodell will announce that he is not suspended Big Ben, he feels the action of Art Rooney is enough, but is forcing Roethlisberger into counseling for his obvious problems with alcoholism and poor decision making.

Naaa. I thought there are some real answers... without actually answering.

1. Ben will continue to be part of the team this year.

2. Ben will play out his contract, as long as he grows up and changes his ways.

3. Ben will face discipline however.

4. This was also a shot across the bow to other players. Enough is enough.

Like I said, about 4 games and then put the entire thing behind them and move on, IMO.

PITTSBURGH --
Steelers President Art Rooney II held a rare news conference Thursday and said the team is "prepared to take disciplinary action'" against quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in a coordinated effort with the National Football League offices.

The Steelers' official response to whatever went on between Roethlisberger and a young college student inside a nightclub bathroom is not expected for at least another week, because Rooney said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wants to take more time to assess the situation.

"I've made it clear to Ben that he did not live up to our standards and that there will be consequences, and Ben has indicated that he's willing to accept that," Rooney said.

DUI, happens everywhere. Get over it... Big deal.

And yet where again was ALL this " Moral conduct Outrage by Art, Dan, and the rest of the " Hypocrite " Hall of Famers!!

The second eveent was NOT a DUI. And BTW, DUI's are basically " Attempted Murder " each and everytime someone does it. A Car being driven by someone who has been drinking is a " Loaded Gun ", and when the driver is behind the wheel, he is firing that gun in public. Just because that person may not hit someone with that Bullit does NOT make it a " Ho-Hum " Offense.

The most games he can get is 4 so I say go ahead and suspend him for the first 4 preseason games. :chuckle:

The point of suspending Ben is to get him to stop putting himself in these situations so suspending him for the pre season would be pointless. The First Four Games is suitable for the situation

The Rooney's acting like they only have had choir boys on the team is pure fantasy.

Just to play devil's advocate, I do think they have the right to be pissed since they did give Big Ben the largest contract in franchise history. Big Ben needs to grow up and needs to be on a short leash from now on. But to trade him now would be beyond stupid especially since we have a now team with numerous veterans on the defense. You aren't going to have Dennis Dixon lead this team to the playoffs regardless of how well he looks in the preseason..

I love how Art definitely says that they will take discipliary action against Ben. Based again solely
on his violation of the Moral conduct code. And because the " Steelers " Organazation " holds themselves above all others. Oh really... Gee, lets see.....

We signed this guy...after he did THIS back in 2002...

Ok, I'll bite. First off, I do agree with you to an extent...but using Najeh Davenport as an example is pretty weak. The first incident happened in college and all his charges were dropped because he did a required amount of community service. Then he played for the Packers before coming to the Steelers in 2006.

He went to trial for the other charges you listed as well...and was found not guilty on all charges by a jury of 8 people. Had he been found guilty, be sure that the Steelers would have released him immediately.

I don't think the Rooney's are hypocrites, I think they are shrewd businessmen. I also believe that if Ben gets into another situation like this, guilty or not, he will have left them with no choice. Giving him a suspension now is just a warning.

the only downfall if he gets in trouble again is his value will be next to nothing. we would be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for him. im sure there thinking about that as they consider a trade or to take a chance with him

I agree completely.

And for those that say the Steelers are setting two sets of standards by trading Holmes away for a fifth rounder and will only suspend Ben, you're wrong.

Holmes was a drug addict. I don't give a damn about how "harmless" marijuana is considered, it's still illegal. He promised to stay away from it as long as he was a Steeler in 2008 and would not be suspended for violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. He broke the law. He broke a promise that Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney took seriously. They were also not planning on keeping him at the conclusion of this season anyhow.

In Ben's situation, he has never been charged by a prosecuting attorney of raping someone. It hasn't been proven that he has broken any laws, just that he's not very smart. That isn't a crime.

if he was found guilty he wouldnt be playing football for 10-15. the rooneys dont care about him being guilty, they dont like the way he is acting and the bad press he is bringing. the only real question is whether they think he will change or not because that will determine if they keep him or not

Hang him by his ying yangs damn it!

I swear to God Himself that some of you people were actually salivating thinking the Rooneys were going to announce that they were tossing Ben out on his oversized rump. :shake01:

This is Ben's last chance - if he has half of the brain cells I think he does - he'll make the most of this gift.

I honestly hope he does. I hope he proves every doubt I have wrong. But this is his trial by fire, and I hope they have the burners set on high.

Is that a horrible metaphor, or what? :toofunny:

today was very similar to the bruce arians saga. we know rooney isnt livid with ben (or even considered or discussed getting rid of him) because he didnt say so.

the only thing missing was the 'we are satisfied with the job he has done for us".

meanwhile, all reports (which i will guarantee are true) are that ben was hanging by a thin thread, so he damn well better look at this as a gift. thank God we didnt piss him away like we did santurdio.

Very Well Said!!! :hatsoff::hatsoff::hatsoff::hatsoff::hatsoff::appl audit::applaudit::applaudit:

The Rooney way has always been to help a one of their players in trouble. Just like they did for Earnie Holmes back in the 70's. However if the player still continues to make bad choice like the pothead punk Santino then the Rooney's either cut them or let them go like Plex.

There are two way I look at this press conference and the announcement that it will be a few weeks before imposing a suspension.

1. Letting Ben dangle for a few weeks while being publicly excoriated is part of his punishment. Shame can be a wonderful motivator to make people change.

OR

2. The Rooney's really are trying to trade him and need the time to work out a deal.

There was definitely more to Santonio than being a pothead...otherwise I think the organization would have given him more of a chance. Out of all the drugs and offenses you can be found guilty and/or accused of, pot is the least of them.

Ernie Holmes shot it out with a police helicopter...completely different situation. I'm sure that Art Sr. would have been thrilled at pot being the biggest of Ernies problems. Holmes, like you said, continued to break promises and make bad decisions. While I think pot is a relatively harmless drug, it's something that one would expect that a person would have an easy time quitting for millions of dollars a year.

That's just it. It was the promised Santonio made that he broke, and broke gladly. I'm positive it was the Wake and Bake tweet that put it over the edge.

I certainly don't disagree with you on this. While I don't think pot hindered me any in my high school career...I certainly wasn't telling my parents or teachers that I was wake n' bakin. That's just stupid.

Or it could have been the faild drug test, 4 game suspension, and the fact it was the last year of his contract.
