The Steelers pick at their league rank (18th) - as determined by their record last year - in the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th rounds (this last traded to the Bucs for Leftwich). But they pick 19th in 6th round, and 20th elsewhere.

Why?

They had two 7th round picks.

They had two 7th round picks.

And four 5th rounders, but that's not the question. The extra picks are extra for all sorts of reasons, and the NFL's Draft Tracker will tell you exactly what each pick is for, except for their "natural" picks, which are listed without comment.

The question is: Why aren't they picking at 18th throughout the entire draft?

They had identical 9 and 7 records with 2 other teams.
We own the Tie Breaker to draft 18th (1st of the 3 team tie) The other 2 teams draft ahead of us in Round 2. In the 3rd Round, we draft in the middle of the 3 tied teams.

Gotcha... Thank you very much.

Sorry I didnt see this one earllier, yeh when teams tie as far as records in the regular season sometimes they have to flip coins to determine who picks when in the first round then they rotate each round there after.
