Vanderbilt center Bradley Vierling to sign with Steelers
Former Vanderbilt center and 2009 team captain Bradley Vierling will sign a free-agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday morning.
Vierling said that a deal was agreed upon this afternoon that will keep the Warminster, Pa., native in his home state.
“I’m headed to Pittsburgh and I’m going to be a Steeler,” Vierling said.
Pittsburgh was not the only team interested in Vierling, but it was the one willing to offer a contract. The Browns, Lions, Rams and Jaguars extended Vierling a tryout at mini-camp.
“It was actually a pretty easy decision,” he said. “Obviously, you have to go with where the contract is at because of insurance issues.
“(Pittsburgh) said they went back in the film room after the draft and watched more film on me against first-round draft Dan Williams (of the Tennessee Vols, who was drafted 26th overall by the Arizona Cardinals). They thought I did an exceptional job against him. They said they had underestimated me and wanted me to become a Steeler.”
Vierling (6-3, 295) started his final 25 games at center for Vanderbilt. The Steelers also liked his versatility of having logged some experience at guard
