Pro Bowler Clady suffers knee injury playing basketball

NFL.com Wire Reports

Denver Broncos Pro Bowl offensive tackle Ryan Clady tore his patellar tendon playing basketball over the weekend, multiple league sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora, and is expected to miss an extended period of time.

A source with knowledge of the situation told La Canfora that the tear was not as damaging as it could have been, and Clady's recovery could take three-to-four months. That means he could miss all of the team's offseason and training camp activities, which would also cloud Clady's status for the start of the season.

The Denver Post reports Clady had surgery Tuesday.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels told NFL Network's Paul Burmeister on Total Access that it was a "very unfortunate situation with Ryan," but that the team is hopeful everything will work out.

Clady's agent, Pat Dye Jr., didn't immediately return a phone call.

Clady was the 12th overall pick out of Boise State in the 2008 NFL draft. He allowed the fewest sacks among tackles as a rookie and last year became the 11th tackle to earn Pro Bowl honors in his second season.

Tough brake for Clady and the Broncos.

I wonder if playing basketball is forbidden in his contract. It is in a lot of player contracts, which makes it voidable and they would be able to recoup bonus money.
