Just like David Wright from the mets and the minor leaguers. To hell with the look, a guy with his history of concussions he needs extra padding for that noggin.

That helmet does look odd, but if it makes things safer... then I'm all up for it. Safety is first in everything, just not sports.

In this pic Ben looks like the guy from the burger king commercials with little hand syndrome. :chuckle:

Black helmet...check
Facemask...check
Chinstrap...check
Yellow stripe...check
Steelers logo...check

Good to go. :chuckle:

Good Point!

This is from Bouchette's chat (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10124/1055472-66.stm).

lOSE_WEIGHT_: ED: Ben talked about looking into a better concussion helmet last season. any news? or his lawsuits have proved too distracting

Ed Bouchette: Actually, I did find out he will wear a new helmet this season. it's called the Speed by Ridell. Last year, he wore the more traditional USR4. He wore the new helmet during his two OTA practices Sept 19-20.

If it protects his melon, do we really care about how it looks?

I mean people made fun of bebe for his helmet, but the man still played the game!

Agreed. It looks like a helmet, guys. And if it protects what's left of his noggin than good for him.
You'd might as well get used to it. By the time Goodell is done pansifying the league, every player will be wearing them......whether they want to or not.

Yep. If it keeps him from getting his bell rung again, I'm all for it.

the helmet is actually starting to grow on me but i still don't see how this one helps reduce injury?

This has already been posted so it's probably going to be moved... but hopefully it does help reduce injuries... safety first.

Rush58
05-07-2010, 12:13 PM
probably my other thread (lol) but is there a study anywhere that said these helmets actually improve or reduce injury?

steelerdude15
05-07-2010, 12:14 PM
I've never heard of any studies that actually have proven this, but who knows, there could be. If it really does help though, than great that's awesome.

I was watching something about these kind of helmets on tv at one point... if you notice, it extends down to protect the jaw which is where a lot of concussions start. Makes sense that it would work to me. Theres only so much you can do to soften a blow to a head though.

Yes, it is designed to reduce concussions...and it's also significantly lighter than the old helmets....I think these things have been around for 3 or 4 years now.

Thanks for posting that.

The helmet won't matter so much as WR's getting open and Ben seeing them quicker. That is what will determine how long he plays imo.

Notice I could have went off on an anti-BA tangent but chose the high road.

Troy has been wearing a Mark Kelso type helmet for a few years, he still got concussions. I think the revolution helmets do one thing, make your head look like a dufus...

You can't fault Ben for wanting to protect himself against concussions.

markymarc

Kudos to Ben for at least wanting to protect himself from future concussions. Maybe Roger Goodell can set a new precedent and suspend Ben for looking fat in this helmet :chuckle:

If there is the possibility of Ben not getting a concussion because he's wearing this helmet, then I am all for it. Forget looks, I would rather the man's brain not turn to mush later in his life thanks to him wearing it.
