No deal is imminent or being discussed currently for Pittsburgh Steelers veteran starting cornerback Ike Taylor(notes).

As he enters the final year of a $23.75 million contract, Taylor is hopeful that he'll play in Pittsburgh for a long time.

"Deep down in my heart, I want to retire as a Steeler," Taylor told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I've been here seven years. I'm a Steeler all the way. But it's on them if we can agree be on the same page. If not, I've gotta move on."

Taylor, whose nickname is Little Rooney for his rapport with Steelers owner Dan Rooney, got an endorsement from defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau

"I know Ike wants to be here," LeBeau said. "And I would think that ownership would want the same thing. We would miss him if he were not here."

The Steelers have a history, though, of letting free agents move on, including many more accomplished football players than Taylor.

"They move at their own pace," Taylor said. "There ain't no forcing them. They've been doing it for years, so why change now? I respect that."

The question remains whether the Steelers will respect Taylor's body of work enough to pay him next year.

He's the best CB on our roster right now. He has had some not-so-good years, and some great years (he was light-out in 2008), but generally, I think he has been fairly consistent in his output.

His lack of INTs keeps him out of top CB discussions, and should also guarantee that we can keep him for the hometown discount....

exactly. he is our best and if we lose him we would be totally screwed because we found out Gay cant start. we need to pay him(as long as he dosnt want to much)

This is exactly why a top corner needed to be drafted this year....hopefully Credzon Butler works out.
