Jim Bender, of the Winnipeg Sun, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are in negotiations with CFL DE Gavin Walls. Agent Ray Savage expects an answer Tuesday, Feb. 14. "We're just waiting on Pittsburgh right now," said the 6-foot-2, 235-pound Walls. "They had been busy celebrating their Super Bowl win." Savage is determined to get more than the standard signing bonus of $10,000 US for CFL free agents. He prefers one that would indicate that Walls would be given a legitimate shot at making the final roster.

Here's what I could find...

From CFL.ca

The CFL's rookie of the year is attracting plenty of interest south of the border.

Gavin Walls, a defensive end who led the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with 12 sacks in 2005, worked out for the NFL's New York Jets last Thursday and is scheduled to do the same with the playoff-bound Jacksonville Jaguars later this week.

Walls, 25, said the Washington Redskins are also interested, but he's keeping his cool.

"It's not like I'm coming out of college and I'm all excited about these workouts. It's on a whole different level now," Walls said yesterday from Arkansas. "I've went to different leagues and stayed active these last couple years.

"If they give me an opportunity to work out, then I'm going in to do the best I can."

NFL teams are now allowed to sign CFL players entering the option year of their contracts. The signing window closes in mid-February.

My guess is he'd definatley be a LB in our system, most likely an OLB to back up Porter and Haggans. Harrison is really all we have at OLB behind the starters besides Frazier, so some competition would be good I think.

Defensive end Gavin Walls, who finished tied for second in the CFL with 12 sacks, was named the CFL's top rookie Thursday.

Defensive back Matthieu Proulx of the Montreal Alouettes was the finalist.

Walls enjoyed a stellar rookie season and was one of the few bright spots for Winnipeg (5-12). Walls impressed with his tenacity and determination this season and might have seriously contended for the defensive player award had he not been slowed by a late-season injury.

They might bring him in as a change of pace guy, and see if he can add some pounds. I'm sure Kiesel and Aaron weren't the ideal canadites for a 3-4 DE when they were drafted...

The Steelers will convert him to OLB.
