Has a team ever given up a long TD or long plays on defense (or special teams) on purpose in a preseason game, in order to give their offense more snaps? Obviously there are pluses and minuses to this approach. I'm wondering if any team was bold/desperate enough to try it.

pluses:
- could possibly fool the opponent into thinking certain plays worked better than they really do
- more snaps for your offense (useful when trying to give 4 QBs playing time in one game, for example)
- fewer snaps for your defense (protect vs. injury and potentially keep their O off the field for a whole quarter, messing up their QB/offensive rotation)

minuses:
- discipline by the league if caught?
- more potential for injury on offense if end up running more plays on offense
- fewer defensive snaps to review defensive players
- opposing team could catch on and do the same to your team's offense
- psyche out your defensive/ST players who might wonder why you are having them do this weird stuff (give up yards/points on purpose)
