Still, after franchising Hutchinson and paying a buttload for Alexander, the Squaks are gonna have major cap problems sooner or later (If a CBA is reached, that is).

Actaully his salary against the cap will be smaller this year than it was last year. And since the cap is expanding, we'll have more free agency $ than we had before. Granted, we need to sign some guys. But overall, we really didn't take a hit by this deal for Alexander.

Just give me a back who can go for 4 or so yards often enough on first down so that you're not always looking at 2nd and 8, and that can get you that 3 yards and a cloud of dust when you need it, and that's good enough. I like watching great backs but I think thats the wrong basket to put all your eggs in.
