Redskins | Team targeting Randle El
Fri, 10 Mar 2006 15:02:40 -0800
The Associated Press reports the Washington Redskins are targeting free agent WR Antwaan Randle El (Steelers) via free agency, according to a league official. He spoke on condition of anonymity because under league rules, the team is not allowed to contact the players until the market opens at 12:01 a.m. EST Saturday, March 11. Randle El is one of four free agents the Reskins are targeting. As noted earlier, the other three are free agent WR Brandon Lloyd (49ers), LB/DE Andre Carter (49ers) and S Adam Archuleta (Rams).

I think Lloyd was already tendered, and ARE would be an odd choice for a team that already has a shrimpy type WR in Santana Moss.

Let him go.

I hope he does sign with them

If he wants to stay here for the right price and continue to be on a winning team that knows how to use his skills in the best possible way, great. If he wants to go to a team that will over pay him, good bye. We'll see if he likes it when he has some hack throwing him the ball.

I hope we get a chance to resign El and atleast be given the option by him and his agent to offer up a deal of our own before he sees to many other dollar signs.

They want ARE for his kick return prowess, little more. Santana Moss is a better standalone receiver, but ARE has more tools in the bag. Apple and an orange, really, but if you think about it, it makes sense. They drafted #1 for Desmond Howard waaaay back in the day, and it paid off for them. They are comparable in their return & receiving capabilities.

When they say it's not about the money it's about the money

I know I'd like to have a receiver on my team taller than 5' 9 1/2", but, then again, Daniel Snyder is insane, so who knows...

Here's an update:
Free-agency front is quiet; Randle El meets with teams

Little activity for Steelers

Sunday, March 12, 2006
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers management treated the first day of free agency with one big yawn and, so far, that's about how other teams welcomed Steelers free agents.
Wide receiver Antwaan Randle El was busy talking to his second team in two days but, other than that, there was little activity with the Steelers or their dozen unrestricted free agents.
Omar Khan, the club's chief negotiator, spent Friday night meeting with agent Eric Metz discussing a deal to keep defensive end Brett Keisel. The Steelers did not sign any of their other 11 unrestricted free agents, or their two restricted free agents.
Randle El, considered the most valuable of their players given freedom at 12:01 a.m. yesterday, rejected an offer by his hometown Chicago Bears and was whisked on a private jet to Washington to discuss a deal with the Redskins and to attend a Wizards NBA game last night as their guest. His agent and the Bears continue to keep talks open.
Starting defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen reportedly was in New York to visit with the Jets, but there was little news about any of the other Steelers. Safety Chris Hope, as of yesterday, had lined up no visits to other NFL teams

It would be moronic for the Skins to get ARE, they already have that player in Moss they need a big over the middle possesion type guy to take some pressure off of Moss hence signing Joe Jur. It makes so much more sense for the Bears to sign him, they have the big possesion guy in Musin and need the quick versitale guy.
