Free-agency front is quiet; Randle El meets with teams
Little activity for Steelers

Steelers management treated the first day of free agency with one big yawn and, so far, that's about how other teams welcomed Steelers free agents.

Wide receiver Antwaan Randle El was busy talking to his second team in two days but, other than that, there was little activity with the Steelers or their dozen unrestricted free agents.

Omar Khan, the club's chief negotiator, spent Friday night meeting with agent Eric Metz discussing a deal to keep defensive end Brett Keisel. The Steelers did not sign any of their other 11 unrestricted free agents, or their two restricted free agents.

Randle El, considered the most valuable of their players given freedom at 12:01 a.m. yesterday, rejected an offer by his hometown Chicago Bears and was whisked on a private jet to Washington to discuss a deal with the Redskins and to attend a Wizards NBA game last night as their guest. His agent and the Bears continue to keep talks open.

Starting defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen reportedly was in New York to visit with the Jets, but there was little news about any of the other Steelers. Safety Chris Hope, as of yesterday, had lined up no visits to other NFL teams.

There is at least some good news in there with Keisel and Hope. Keisel, Townsend and possibly Hope are the three I would like to see us sign.

I'm curious to know what other teams think of Chris Hope.

Keisel, Hope, and ARE at the right price !!

Nothing surprising as teams now shift modes back into a salary cap era when most were beginning to plan for the worst if the CBA didnt go through.

I'm just happy to hear that there are negotiations going on between Keisel's agent and the Steelers. They are at least talking.

I'm curious to know what other teams think of Chris Hope. with the flood of veteran safeties hitting the market (many of which have more starting experience) teams may be shying away from his comments that he wants to be a top 5 paid safety. this is good. he may have talked himself right into our pricerange but i think c. chavous got around 4 mil/ year and if a. archuletta goes to the redskins you know he will be paid. hopefully these signings arent driving up the price for him

it'll be interesting to see how things shape up...hope to hear more news soon!

So far it seems we could lose three safeties. And it seemed that safety was where we lacked depth. It would be nice to see something happen soon

With ARE gone now..that frees up even more money to get Keisel, Hope, and Kimo back into the fold.
