** WNST Sportstalk 1570 in Baltimore reports the Ravens have re-signed RB Jamal Lewis. No contract details available yet. They had just signed ex-Broncos RB Mike Anderson to a 4-year deal, but with only $2 million guaranteed, it was obviously backup money. Indeed, it turns out Anderson will be the #2 back (since Chester Taylor left for Minnesota). The free agent RB market has shut down pretty quickly with only Michael Bennett, Maurice Morris, and Najeh Davenport left patrolling the aisles for a deal.

This is beautiful. Spend as much money as you possibly can on HB's and on a DE, but don't bother boosting your QB position.

Home again: Jamal Lewis agrees to new Ravens deal

By John Clayton
ESPN.com

Less than 12 hours after the Ravens replaced Chester Taylor with Mike Anderson, Jamal Lewis got what he wanted -- a chance to return to Baltimore.

The office of Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, confirmed Lewis accepted a three-year deal to stay in Baltimore. Terms of the deal were unavailable because Frankel was on a flight this morning.

Lewis was planning to go to Denver for a visit and start to find another team but he kept in touch with the Ravens. Finally, after 24 hours of negotiations, going back and forth between short-term and long-term deals, Lewis accepted a three-year deal to stay and will have a conference call with the media later this afternoon.

Another stupid decision by the Ravens, they just signed a decent to good RB in Anderson and instead of taking what money they have left and going after a guy like Brees or another QB that is at least worth a damn they get another RB. With Boller the best they do is 3rd in the division

With the FA's that Cleveland has signed I think on paper Baltimore could have just taken up residence in the AFC North Cellar.

3 YEARS $26 MIL.????????????????????????????

john clayton reports that its essentially a 1 year deal for 6 mil. with 2 10 mil incriments.

the steelers better hurry up and extend polamalu cause theres no telling what crazy assed thing the ravens will do to keep ed reed.

polamalu may come with a price of 6-7 mil/year by the time this all plays out, especially if he actually hits f.a.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Baltimore Ravens RB Jamal Lewis' new contract with the Ravens is a three-year, $26 million deal. In reality, though, Lewis will be playing on a one-year deal that pays him $6 million, and the relationship with the Ravens will be reviewed after the season. Lewis received a $5 million signing bonus and a $1 million base. The final two years of the contract will pay him $10 million each season with roster bonuses of $5 million in March that the Ravens have to decide to pay or renegotiations will begin for a new deal in 2007.

Stupid indeed. I can't believe the money the Ravens paid here to keep a RB who has lost a step or two. And even at 6 million for this year.
