i don't get why the steelers keep wasting money on this dude, they might as well just sign me, i can drop passes for that much money too lol. we better resign morgan, cause right now we don't have a 3rd wr unless nate washington pulls a willie parker and plays good

Well, I understand what you are saying about Mays being a waste of time, and I certainly would agree that getting Quinc in with a healthy leg is higher priority. But I don?t remember Mays dropping any passes. In fact, I think the only thing I remember about him was drawing a flag against a guy one time in a big playoff game (Maybe the titans)? That?s about the only thing I can ever recall him doing.

Keep in mind, he still needs to make the team. Personally, I don't see it happening. Quincy will still be signed in my opinion.

vs. jax in 2004 during plex's injury he made the huge catch in the 4th quarter on bens last minute come from behind win. im pretty sure this game was his most productive as a pro.

Well, now I can look forward to them cutting Lee "Stone Hands" Mays again this summer.

Yeah, pretty much. That's why I'm not really making a big deal over this signing. It's not as if we signed the guy long term and are planning on lining him up opposite of Hines.

Everytime I play Madden in franchise mode, Mays is on my roster for about as long as it takes me to get to the "Release Player' menu. I wish the Steelers would think like me.

Another thought, I was reading an ESPN article on restricted free agents (link below), and I was intrigued by a receiver. He may cost too much, but I believe compensating with a third round pick (especially if we have a comp third rounder) could be worth it. I am speaking of Minnesota WR Nate Burleson. I know he was injured last year, but I agree with the artice in saying that he could be an excellent #2 if he were healthy. I say push Cedrick Wilson instead of handing the #2 slot to him. Thoughts?

I think it's normal for the Steelers to always have a handful of "projects" hanging around. Some work, some don't. Mays isn't too bad though. It's not like he's gonna be thrown the ball any more than a couple o' dozen times a season.

Its an insurance signing.. just in case type of thing. Mays knows the offense and can return kicks in a pinch. He'll become expendable during training camp if/when we pick up some decent WR's in the draft or FA.

I'd rather have a Rookie Free Agent than Mays at this point. At least with a rookie there's a chance for improvement, with Lee Mays you know you're getting a ST WR that couldn't catch a ball back in the days of Stick 'Em.

BTW, I like the Burleson idea

cant stand Lee Mays, I really wish they would give Walter Young a harder look. He was a very good WR from the University of Illinois.. has good height and decent speed. Young played well i thought in preseason last year but wasnt chosen to make the final roster. I think if we resign Morgan, that our WR corps of Ward, Wilson, Washington, and Young would not be too bad.. I cant really see them bring in a F/A WR of who is left out there and I would hope that we would draft defense ( either LB, or DE ) with our first 2 picks. Whatever we do at WR, i just hope is not another project WR.. Gibson was such a let down last year and a wasted pick.

Some good news on the Quincy Morgan front..............

"I think numbers-wise we were satisfied," Rooney said. "We went into it wanting to keep as many of those guys as we could and we were able to do so. We're still trying to get Quincy. I think we're going to come out of it about as well as you can expect." - PPG
