but we need you to perform! i wanna keep you around because you are so good at Heinz but you're making it hard on me to keep defending you!

Why does anyone ever defend this tool? His kickoffs were once again absolutely pathetic and he is not kicking any better at Heinz Field than he is anywhere else. Time for a new kicker. You have to be money from 46 yards in the clutch when there is no wind blowing. He is not the only one to blame for making this game so close, but he surely didn't help.

I missed a few minutes of the game. He missed one from 46?

He hasn't made a clutch field goal since the playoffs in 2008.

Like I said, the years Adam Vinetiari had game winnning superbowl field goals, he had terrible field goal misses... He actually missed 20 something yard field goals!... In 03 he missed 10 field goals.
but he's perfect in the offseason.

Not saying to Keep Reed.. just showing he could be a hall of fame kicker and we let him go.

It sucks that he's not as clutch anymore, but nobody made any FGs in that end tonight.

Reed did however make a 52 (or 53?) yarder and a 46 yarder from the other end, while the Bengals kicker missed both of his. Could have been worse.

If Reed gets his FG's back in line, we need to at least get somebody for kickoffs. Reeds were goddam horrible. It was like giving the Bungholes a 15 yard head start every time.

Jeff Reed will be an ex Steeler come March 1. Doesnt really matter.

His first kick off was really high, the bengals fumbled around the 20, but the Steelers had the returner around the 15 but couldn't tackle him. Reed does this a lot but the special teams players can't tackle worth a damn.

Patriots also got kickoff specialists for Vinatieri, but I doubt the Steelers will do that... especially with 4 defensive linemen and 7 offensiveline men... almost had to put Spaeth or Miller on the offensive line.

His kickoffs were brutall tonight. He made that 53 yarder but there wasn't really any pressure on him. When it came down to it, when we needed him to ice the game - he disappointed.. again.

he's already lost a game for us, and almost another. he's a liability at this point

Can Sepulvida kick off? Saints have their punter do the kickoffs. How much worse can it be.

I think they tried him the past 2 off seasons, he's not a soccer kicker so he just isn't used to it. But atleast he can tackle, Reed is a very strong guy but he's a sissy when trying to make a tackle.

Sepulveda sucked tonight too. I wouldn't count on him being any better on kickoffs, if the coaches thought he was he'd be doing it already.

As for Reed, he's got 8 more games and possibly the playoffs to prove he still wants to be this team's kicker.Right now I'd say it aint looking too good.

His leg cant reach the endzones anymore, you have to get it at least 5 yards deep so ST can cover more ground.

He irritates me to no end. A 46 yarder should be money in that kind of weather. There wasn't any evidence of heavy winds blowing. He shanked it. As long as he has been playing he shouldn't miss one like that by so far. He seems to be cracking under the pressure of close games. We will lose more close games if he keeps it up.

Jeff Reed is a certified (http://hotchickswithdouchebags.com/2009/12/douchiest-athlete-jeff-reed/) douchebag (http://hotchickswithdouchebags.com/2010/10/jeff-reed-parties-with-john-largeman/). It's time to move on,

no.
What he said. There is exactly one kicker in the HoF, and the thought that Reed would make it two is, well... a deluded homerism.

As for Adam Vinatieri missing chip shots during his SB years with the Patriots, once again, no. He won Superbowl XXXVI with his leg, and that regular season he made all but one kick under 40 yards (but it was over 30 yards) including all of his kicks under 30. He missed exactly one kick under 30 yards his next SB season, 2003. And he was almost perfect the following season, 2004, missing only a few long kicks (over 40 yards).

Lionslicer, do you understand that words mean things? Do you think about the words that come out of your mouth (or out of your keyboard) beforehand? Just a tip: when you make claims of fact, it is immensely helpful if what you are claiming is actually true.

cut the b******d.

Last night sealed the deal for me. Another miss, and MORE kickoff's booted to around the 15, allowing great field position......again. This is EVERY game. Let him 'try' field goals for the rest of the year but is there anyone on special teams that can kick the ball in the g** d**** end-zone?
He has turned into my most disliked Steeler player. This is getting ridiculous. This isn't just one kick. Its his JOB to kick to the other endzone.

I think his consistently weak kick-offs are more damaging to the team than his few field-goal misses.
Constantly kicking to the 15 and teams are running us back to the 35, 40, 45 ALL the time. We are spotting great field position way too much. This is my main problem with Reed.

I just wished he made that last field goal and made it tougher on the Bungles to comeback... It would have been the clincher forcing them to make costly mistakes in the end...

He still had one of the lowest accuracy of kicks made during the season, I don't care where they came from.
He also doesn't atempt field goals over 51 yards, they usually have the field goal specialist do those, he doesn't have a pro leg.

I don't think Reed is good, but Patriot fans wanted to kill Adam, but he made a superbowl winning kick, but they still released him in 2005 after not making a single kick over 50 yards. Immagine if Reed kicked a superbowl winning field goal, does everyone still hate him? No.

Adam also missed 5 field goals under 40 yards in 2003, missed 5 field goals in 2001 between 40-49 yards. 2002 and 2004 were good seasons, but he didn't have any game winning field goals in the playoffs those years.

From 1996 to 2000 his average accuracy was 80 percent, missing an average of 7-8 field goals a year.
His average for his entire career is 82%, thats exactly the same as Jeff Reed

Adam also isn't perfect in the post season as Reed is.

But I don't know anything, I'm just a stupid mindless zombie...

He looked overweight and drunk out there.........His mechanics on that 46 yarder were way off......He kicked it straight, but he lined it up wrong...........

Kickers are like golfers.....They get into funkssometimes.......He just needs to get rid of the bad juju............He be fine.........

he'd have to make 90+% of his kicks from here on out and have several clutch ones as well to even have a shot at making the team again.

The guy is way too nutty and I seriously doubt he'll take the kind of money we'll be willing to pay him, he wants way too much and is getting more than he deserves as is with the franchise tag.

Two Words: Kai Forbath.

I watch a bit of the UCLA games and this kid really has a great leg, decent make % out of 50 but good enough, and has shown himself to be clutch.

Snag him in the 4th or 5th, and buh bye Jeff Reed.

Help. The sky is falling. Pick a field goal kicker in the first round next year. But I seriously think Reed is totally losing it. And he doesn't really seem to care.

I second this thought. Kai should be the first kicker drafted in 2011.

Jeff Reed definitely has a major mental block right now and needs to get out of this funk. I have always supported him in the past and refuse to do so anymore after his performance so far this season. There is no doubt in my mind he has been the biggest disappointment on the Steelers team.

I can't wait for the Jeff Reed era to be over with!
