Shaun Suisham is among the players the Steelers will work out as they ponder making a change at kicker with Jeff Reed just 15 of 22 on field goal attempts this season.

Suisham has played for the Redskins and Cowboys and has converted just over 79 percent of his career field goal attempts. He went to training camp with the Steelers in 2005 but was unable to wrest the kicking job away from Reed.

Reed, the Steelers' second all-time leading scorer, is in the midst of his most trying season.

He missed a 26-yard field goal in the Steelers' 39-26 loss to the Patriots Sunday night. That came a week after he missed a 46-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of a 27-21 win at Cincinnati.

After the Patriots game, Reed said the soggy conditions at Heinz Field caused his plant foot to sink into the turf on the field goal that he missed and the 22-yarder that he made. The eighth-year veteran also took exception with fan and media criticism he has endured this season.

Reed has been the Steelers kicker since November of 2002 when he won the job after a tryout.

Reed, who entered the season as the most accurate kicker in franchise history, is a free agent after the season but said he wants to stay in Pittsburgh.

If the Steelers thinks this guy is an upgrade they're crazy. They'll do better by getting someone from the CFL.

Suisham is horrible. Bring Mike Vanderjagt out of retirement before Suisham!

I don't think he would be an upgrade for Reed. This guy has his share of xtra point misses. I would rather see Matt Stover who has impressive stats

but has been around for like 20 years and did not kickoff for Indy Last Year. He has made his share of long and big kicks at Heinz Field though.

And your really going out on a limb with Piotr Czech who has no stats.

Probably best to put a scare in Reed and keep him for this year, then draft one high next year.

im sure siusham won't be playing for the steelers next year. coaching staff was probably just sending a message that play like that will get you fired

not to mention reed's attitude during the offseason im sure was probably more of a contributing factor than his actual play

Something off the field must have blown up to start impacting on the field performance for Tomlin to take an action that impacts an offense that does not light up the scoreboard

Reed will get a new gig but his new employer presumably is going to insist on some contract terms that get him into rehab

from twitter-

his actions off the field finally caught up to him as his performance on the field didn't meet the usual standard.....

there's been a lot more embarrassing acts from Reed on road trips, ect that have been kept in house and hid from the media.

My thoughts on Jeff Reed -- He made his own bed. Off the field, he's been an embarrassment to the organization for several years.....

just rumors and nothing substantial, but its not like we dont know there is a fire billowing all this smoke.
