View Full Version : Missed pick

Steelers missed out on a great player, Matt Roth, defensive end from Iowa. Have you seen this guy? He is amazing. I had the chance to see him play this past year. He is awesome. Tight ends are not worth a first round pick. Time will tell.

when u say missed pick, we never missed, we passed him up, we liked heath miller better, we need to surround ben with tools to work with for him to progress, the short tight end passes are what boosts the QB confidence. so im happy they got him instead of roth

I have to agree. I like the what Heath Miller could do for us. I like adding the idea of having another offensive threat.

Missed or passed does not matter. A bad pick like Heath Miller matters.

ur weird, heath miller is a great pick.
a tight end is what makes a QB

I`m thinking Cowher and Co. talked with Ben before the pick, and TE was the way to go. If we don`t use the tools Heath Miller brings, then yes it was a missed pick, lets hope we know how to use a TE

Thank you "clevestinks". That is my point. The Steelers use a blocking tight end, not a receiver type like Tony Gonzales. If Miller works out like Gonzales then we are going to kick people's asses. If he goes bust our offense will look like it did in '03.

u cant say if he was a bust it was a wasted pick. thats why the draft is so good. You dont know if the player is gonna be great or not

NFL network one of thier guys called Heath Miller the steal of the draft

Very true. Many people thought Heath Miller would be gone by pick 25. One mock draft had NY Jets taking him at 26 pick. This guy has a lot of potential and was a good pick in my opinion.

I hat to repeat myself, but, Please coach Cowher, use him they way is supposed to be used. I say minimum three plays to him a game.
04-24-2005, 10:45 PM
whatttttttttttttt, i say 15 a game.cowher has to use him the right way in that as a recieveing tight end instead of a run blocking tight end

If he doesn't I would be surprised. I mean I know it has happened before, but this was one of the reason this guy was so big. Not only can the man block well, but he can catch. If he isn't used the right way it would be a huge disappointment in my opinion.

1)not a missed picked. Roth would not have been great value at the pick. Good pick but maybe something happens and he falls in round 2 like Miller did in round 1. Miller only fell cause of his injury. His size, speed, talent didn't change to much(like Clarrett running 4.8763957 or whatever in the 40). So if you have a chance to get a previous top ten pick on discount so much the better.
2)Now that you have him, make the most of it. Two passes a game(one of those being a throw away and the TE was the closest eligible receiver) does not warrant us taking him with the pick. Now use him to complete short sure passes on 1st down, use him to draw away deep middle coverage from Ward/El/Wilson/Gibson, use him in goal line/red zone. I can live and be very happy if he gets used like this. His stats don't have to match Gates or Tony G., but he just has to be a threat enough to be effective.

3 minimum I said , 15 is to much, we run the ball, so 30 throws a game is max. right now for Ben, 10+ to Hines, El, Wilson, screens, etc.

but i expect to see 2-5 catches a game from him. He's a very good athletic tight end. the same type as todd heap style. Ward of course is gonna be the main point of our passing game and ill surely have 60+ catches unless an injury happens. i see randle el in the 40 range wilson in the 30. i think thats around what we'll see since we are a running team
