Yes I agree with MasterOFPuppets. 1996 was indeed bad but as he indicated at least we got Holmes from that draft. I'll also mention Jon Witman who provided solid play at the FB position. 1997 was down right horrible. I'm so freaking glad that Tom Donahoe is GONE!

1997.
When the best thing a draft does is provide those Patsies from Boston a solid player like Vrabel.... that means it officially sucks!!!!!!!!

I gotta go 99...I mean, if you weight your picks accordingly, to have 3 of your top 4 picks be absolute busts is AWFUL. Sure, Porter and Smith were good picks, but keep it in perspective...

Look at needs and who we passed over. With #1, we absolutely wasted a pick on Troy Edwards, largely based on 1 good game he had as a senior against Nebraska. Who did we pass over? Torry Holt.

In Rd 2, we went with Scott Shields. At the time, I thought it was kind of cool because he was such a big body, but it was just a weak draft at that position...the first quality safety taken was Dexter Jackson in Rd 4...another absolutely wasted pick.

In 3A we did okay with Porter, but Kris Farris at 3B was another awful pick. What OL did we pass over for this lump of shit? John Tait, Luke Petitgout, Jon Jansen, LJ Shelton, and Rex Tucker, all of whom except Tucker went on to become starters. Farris was a marginal player floating from team to team for a couple years as practice squad fodder before he was put out to pasture.

. im pretty sure that the steelers had holt targeted all along and the rams snagged him up with a top 10 pick right before we chose. we settled for edwards.

(i just looked it up. holt went 6th, boston went 8th, edwards13th. j. kearse went 2 picks later. al wilson was 31st and only 3wr were taken in the 1st round)

lol at 2000. atleast we got plex. the next 2 wr taken in the 1st round were sylvester morriss and that puke r.j soward. plex was preceded by p.warric with a total of 4. (he cost us j. abraham or b. urlacher. im starting to think no on any position players with #32 this year

I played a little fast and loose with the picks...we moved up to get Troy P., so we could have moved up to get Torry Holt. The logic being that we had supplemental picks in the 3 and 4th with which to work...

Regardless, considering that Troy E had almost no worth, just about ANY pick would have been better at #13 that year.

I had heard for years about what a great G.M> Donohoe was while with the Steelers. I even have this nicely framed autographed photo of him and he wrote me a nice letter with it. After knowing what i know now, going back through the players lost, the players drafted ect ...

BILL COWHER is one hell of a coach cause with these draft classes that were dealt him in alot of re/ was crap. I think our draft classes went much better when Bill took over

Some of those guys you completely wrote off were at least servicable, and had some productive years. Troy Edwards and a bucket of piss are on equal footing as far as NFL value is concerned...

It's EXTREMELY difficult to pick WR's who will succeed in the NFL because of the absolute stellar play of the DB's at the top level. The most important ability is to gain seperation, and it's a difficult attribute to predict.

No question. Was he trying to screw up? Come on! Freaking Duke? North Carolina A&T?

Is this the NBA? Thank god for Kevin Colbert.

. i shouldve phrased that a little better. ....wasted 1st round picks. not wasted draftpick all together. i found 11 of the 42 who lived up to their 1st round billing. about 11 who were complete flops and about 20 who WERE servicable and had productive years. this middle group of 20 is your typical cheif receiver. kennison, morton, alexander, etc. these guys never lived up to their billing and definitely werent worth where they were drafted. #2 or #3 wr at best. randel els without the passing, running, or punt return skills.

many in this middle group of wr had their most productive years after the team who initially drafted them gave up on and dumped them.

I give 96 a pass because, yes, of course we reached on Stephens, but he was a hot commodity that year, believe it or not...he also started 10 games for us in '98. And we uncovered a lot of hidden talent in that draft that actually produced, which provides a little balance.

In 99, we ****ed up almost from top to bottom...
