I'm personally more of a college basketball junkie than NFL. One of my part-time jobs is working as a freelancer for the Associated Press in South Bend, Ind. and from time to time I get the chance to cover Notre Dame men's basketball home games.

So, any Pitt and Big East hoops lovers here wanna talk some basketball?

i love all teams pittsburgh so naturally ave been real pleased with following the panthers the past few years and the job dixon does.

im pretty much a casual fan who really starts watching near the tournament especially if i have a few horses in the race.

im in new mexico so i always root for the local teams (my lobos) and the other WAC teams nearby. it was real cool having UTEP, NMSU and UNM in the dance last year.

i used to live in tucson as a kid so alway rooted for the wildcats, and i always liked rick majerus and his utes with doleac, van horn, and miller (them and my lobos had some epic games for the division.)

sort of off topic but notre dame football is playing down here in the sun bowl on new years eve. i was gonna get tickets but they sold out with in 8 hours and the afternmarket prices are through the roof. the buzz in el paso is killer (89% catholic population) and this it touted as the biggest, bestest sun bowl ever.

i went to the pitt vs osu snoozefest 2 years ago.

whats the buzz like up there?

The buzz is pretty muted up here. Sort of guarded optimism about the football team. People were pretty pissed with Kelly after the Navy and Tulsa losses and several big recruiting de-commitments, but it's amazing what a win over USC will do. Even a bad USC team. If he gets a win over Miami and a couple of the 5-star recruits they're still in on, I think the pressure will be lighter going into next year.

And I think Jamie Dixon is a fantastic coach. Pitt should be thankful that he's still there and not off to some higher profile job by now.

The Big East is going to be the usual hoops meat grinder this year. I'm really looking forward to it - I'll be doing some ND games for the AP in January, probably Marquette, St. John's and Cincinnati.

I'm pretty stoked about Big East hoops getting started. I'm covering the Georgetown-Notre Dame game for the Associated Press on Dec. 29th here in South Bend. That ought to be a real good game.
