Less Excitement For Big Steelers-Ravens Game?
Pittsburgh Vendors See Slow Merchandise Sales Before Baltimore Visit

PITTSBURGH -- Enter the Strip District and you know for certain, just by looking around, that you're in Pittsburgh Steelers country.

But Channel 4 Action News' Sheldon Ingram reported that you can't necessarily feel it, because the usual NFL playoff excitement seems not to have caught on with fans yet.

In the days before the Baltimore Ravens come to town, local vendors said they have the poor sales to back that feeling up.

"They're a little leery," vendor Jim Coen said Thursday. "Baltimore played pretty well last week, and I think Steelers fans -- in the back of their minds -- are a little worried. It's definitely showing up in my sales."

"Sales are down," vendor Rocco Carrieri said. "They're kind of quiet right now. They want to wait for the outcome of Saturday's game. We played Baltimore already. We won one and lost one. I think they're nervous."

"They got something to be nervous about," vendor Joe Hermanowski said. "That's a good team. That's not a team you can just laugh off. It ain't Cleveland."

"A lot of people are nervous," Steelers fan Wil Sims said. "But the thing about it is, you got to get to (Ravens quarterback Joe) Flacco early, because Flacco is dangerous."

"I am personally, so if I'm worried about it, maybe they (other fans) are, too," Steelers fan Sherry Cravener said.

But don't count Steelers fan Susan O'Brien among the nervous.

"Dead birds everywhere -- all over Heinz Field," O'Brien said.

They are pathetic. Nobody is nervous. Sales are down everywhere. Leary, because they played good last week? I don't care who you are, you turn the ball over 5 times to anybody you are going to lose.
