I think LA would be allowed to snatch up the chargers before San Antonio would wouldn't it? I mean the way Talibigue is talkin they want a franchise there so badly you'd think they'd ignore San Antonio askin for the team. Send the jags to SA then....

Wow thats just crazy. I had no idea the city was that strapped and hard up that they wouldnt be able to help support the team in its quest to build a new stadium.

I posted this article yesterday, but the key paragraph is toward the end. The team offered to build a stadium in exchange for 60 acres of land , thats like the Penguins situation they have someone willing to build an arena but the politicans have been paid off by a competing casino...:dang: :dang:
I have yet to figure out how the city can turn down an offer of a brand new arena (290 million) that will be paid by a check cut within 90 days of issuing the slots license and still try to say plan B is better. None of the competing casinos has guaranteed that they are willing to put up the 7.5 million per year for 30 yrs. that the Govenor wants. Hell if Isle of Capri goes out of business in a couple of years we still have the Arena... Someone tell me how this is bad???:banging: :banging:

What is this about the Penguins? I'm confused on that.

What don't you understand??
1. Isle of Capri is offering to build an arena, it will pay for it by check with in 90 days of being issued the slots license. NO TAXPAYER MONEY! On present site, Hill District. Mario is spokesperson, Penguins endorse this plan For some unknown reason the mayor and county executive are not backing this plan? :dang:
2. All the politicians are pushing Plan B by endorsed by Governor Ed (Philly eagles fan) Rendell which goes something like this: the winning casino will commit to paying 7.5 million per year for 30 years. Near Station Square somewhere. the biggest problem with this is Harrah's has not made any such commitment.Harrah's has hired Franco to be spokesperson.
3. Barden's group from Detroit wants to build near stadiums has not committed any money but has hired Jerome Bettis to be spokesperson.
IMO the government officals would be A$$HOLES to not give the license to Isle of Capri
the building is bought and paid for. IMO the governor hand has been greased by Harrah's, he and his puppets only want to talk about plan B. One major problem is if Harrah's or Barden's commit to this what happen's in say 10 years or whenever they decide it's not profitable and leave, then who pays?? Besides that, traffic is already terrible around Station Square! Also more drama Harrahs already has gambling interests under another name in the state and that's supposed to be illegal!!!

Oh, ok so these are all casino companies that are competin for the chance to open up in Pittsburgh. Barden's and Harrah's have hired former Steelers players to advertise their case to the public. Are both Barden's and Harrah's offerin to pay the 7.5 million a year for 30 years? Where will that money go? The area of Pittsburgh? The state (Philly)? If Isle of Capri is offerin to build a new Penguins arena that does seem like what would be the best for the city. Does anyone else know anythin about this?

LA won't build a new stadium either. I really hope they don't go anywhere else. It's not like i care for SD, but at this point I can barely afford to pay tickets to go see the Steelers play against the Chargers in SD. There's no way i'd be able to finance a road trip to see them anywhere else.

Barden's and Harrah's have only committed to paying the Steelers that represent them, neither has said they will go any amount for 30 yrs. The figurative 7.5 mill. will HELP pay for the Arena. The Pens and I'm sure taxpayers will foot the rest of the bill.
For years the city and county elected officials have told the Pens there is no Public money available and to basically F*ck off, after contributing to the 2 new stadiums. Mario and the Pens have come up with this solution, Isle of Capri, and for some reason it's not good enough. A paid off Arena bordering the city to help bring people downtown, in a blighted area that needs a MAJOR overhaul, Uptown or Hill District, what's not to love??
It's a real drama around here Harrah's is saying Isle of Capri is California based ownership, last I knew Mario has a house in Sewickley. Harrah's has "contributed "to Rendell somewhere along the line. They recently had Public Hearings downtown with presentations from the 3 bidders Franco Harrah's group did not even bother with siteplans or anything, the fix is in!! We need public outcry to save the PENS !!

Even if they won't yet build a new stadium for a LA team it is the fact that so many high officials in the NFL want a team there so badly they'll move a team there regardless of stadium availibility just to be able to fill that television market. The city of San Diego has allowed the team to find another area to build a new stadium so all hope is not yet lost but we'll see how long they look before someone chooses for the franchise to move them. Start savin for bus tickets man.

So.....Harrah's and Barden's haven't promised anythin and haven't set up any real plans for a site in Pittsburgh but Harrah's is known to have "donated" to Rendell's campaignin fund and is tryin to make accusations against Isle of Capri for bein too far removed from the area as far as management to be able to properly oversee a project in Pittsburgh. Isle of Capri so far has offered to pay for the full cost of the arena and has set up plans for a site near downtown...if this is correct let me know I'm tryin to get this full story straight. Peace.

Ok, well c'mon then and bring in Isle of Capri. Also: Rendell out Lynn Swan in...haha.

I don't think Erie is near big enough a city to support a NFL team. I'll have to check population numbers but I think it's smaller than Harrisburg. As I said before I think PA is full enough with the two teams it already has. Peace.
