Marcus Smith turned around and started trash talking. That's how confident the Baltimore special teamer was that the flag on the turf wasn't directed at him following the Ravens' would-be go-ahead, 55-yard punt return for a touchdown by Lardarius Webb that would have given them a 28-24 lead with six minutes left in Saturday's AFC divisional playoff game against the Steelers. Smith was called for holding Will Allen on the Steelers' 19-yard line, eventually costing the Ravens four points. "I thought no way that it is on me," said Smith, a third-yard player out of New Mexico. "In that situation in the game, you never want to be that guy for any reason." Smith said he didn't see a replay of the call, but he was sure that he used proper technique to block Allen. "I thought it was clean," Smith said. "I lock up and try to drive my feet and try to keep my hands inside and try to work the technique we work on in practice. After the play, I was disgusted in myself and with the play in general. You just can't have that. Everything was on the line."

Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco has lost his share of heartbreakers to the Steelers, but he still doesn't think the Steelers are much better than the Ravens. "They are just better at winning the game than us right now," Flacco said. "We need to improve on that. We aren't there yet." Flacco is 4-3 in the playoffs in three years. Two of those losses came to the Steelers.

Inactive for the Ravens yesterday were wide receiver David Reed, safety Tom Zbikowski, linebacker Jason Phillips, defensive tackle Arthur Jones, offensive lineman Bryan Mattison, tight end Davon Drew, tight end Dennis Pitts and defensive tackle Lamar Divens.

Will Allen did a very genius move.. as soon as the Ravens player grabbed him , which you are allowed to do, he put up his arms and fell backwards, which basically made the Ravens player grab on him for dear life and it turned into a hold...
