When Pitts wins the coin toss they've been electing to kick and take the ball to open the third and have the wind at their back to start the 4th.

with how bad the coverage has been and how good the Jets return team is.....

do you keep to your plan if we win the coin toss or do we put the offense on the field first?

putting the offense on first would show a complete lack of trust in the special teams coverage. but puttintg them out their first could put us down by 7 like the last time we played.

I say keep doing what you have been doing and defer. It could come down to who gets the ball last, and that possession right after halftime could be crucial.

I prefer to defer as well. Anytime you have a chance to force them to punt back in their own end and give yourself good field position to start can always set the tone in your favor (especially defensively).

The team should be aware and prepared for Smith and the Jets return game this time around, I'm sure special care was given this week on that. No reason we shouldn't be.

Yeah, I'm 99.9% sure that they'll stick with what they always do (especially at Heinz). Part of it is trust in the defense (and yes, Tomlin has some trust in his ST's too), to get the ball to the offense quickly. It's rare that a team scores on the opening drive against them, so it's like having the ball first for both halves sometimes.

Plus, having the wind at their back in the 4th is crucial, not just for the offense, but for the FG kicker. If winning a game comes down to kicking a FG late in the 4th, you want to be able to give your kicker the best chance to make it (obviously). I have a feeling if the Steelers played in a dome, you wouldn't see them defer as often (it would depend more on how the coaches felt the offenses and defenses matched up).

I sure hope ST is a key point of emphasis this week.
