Another week, another record-breaking television rating for the NFL.

NFL VP of communications Brian McCarthy reports that Sunday’s Jets-Steelers game was the most watched AFC Championship game ever, with an average of 54.8 million viewers. The NFC Championship wasn’t far behind with 51.9 million viewers. (That was up 7% from the early game last year and the best ratings for an early window title game on FOX.)

We suspect this won’t be the last record to fall this season. Packers vs. Steelers is a recipe for huge Super Bowl numbers.

I don't think it's any mistake that the Steelers always seem to be involved in record-setting games. It's pretty clear by now that it's a conspiracy of some sort.

I'm not surprised...I believe this superbowl will break the record too.

And they still want a 18 game season?

Doesnt suprise me...Steelers always draw a big crowd.

Just continues to show how wildly popular the NFL is in this country.

A mildly misleading NFL press release on the rating yesterday for most watched "AFC championship"

Saints-Vikings drew 3 million more viewers with 57.9 milion in the prime time championship slot on Fox last year, which had been the most viewers since 1982 (Cowboys-49ers "The Catch" game) when the splitting up of audiences by cable was just starting

But that game last year had the Brett Favre angle and was not a blowout at halftime

Still not too shabby and further evidence of the power of the NFL

NFC championship game in 1982 had 68.7 million viewers...

54,8 is only a record for AFC championship lol.
