Odd that we picked another WR... makes you wonder just confident they are in Washington and Morgan now.. hhmmm

Pros: Reid has the top speed and quickness to make an impact as a deluxe role performer. He is an explosive runner who accelerates once he gets his hands on the ball. He can get open consistently and run away from defenders. He has sure hands that will allow him to become a pro slot receiver with further development. As a punt returner he is elusive with the toughness to take a hit and keep his balance. He has the ability to make the first tackler miss. He secures the ball well and rarely fumbles. As a returner, he is much more effective on punts than kickoffs.
Cons: Lacks good size to win a regular starting job as a receiver in a pro offense.
Numbers: In 2005, Reid led Florida State in all-purpose yardage including 46 receptions for 579 yards and one touchdown, 31 punt returns for a school-record 541 yards and three touchdowns and eight kickoff returns for 145 yards. At the Combine he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds with a 37?” vertical jump and 9’9” broad jump.
Skinny: He may never be more than a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver, but his playmaking as a punt returner could earn him a fine career. He is similar to Chad Morton in many ways. Fine second day pick with the talent to provide immediate impact on special teams.

maybe he is being groomed as a returner, but sounds like we selected him too early

He will make us proud... He is the tough nose over the middle guy that our fan base loves... Watched him play in person a few times and on TV a bunch down here in ACC country...

Very nice pickup of the third round to me...

if we were going receiver again we could have gotten martin nance????
i guess the punt return is important though.
Morgan did a good job with that but i guess its time to groom some young guys

i think hes more of a kick returner and wr project more than anything. washington or mays will be cut or sent to the practice squad.

"If you're seeking a player who is moving up the draft boards, take a look at Florida State receiver Willie Reid. He ran a 4.34 at the combine and that speed, coupled with his ability to return kicks, has brought on some interest.

Reid returned seven punts for 180 yards in the Seminoles' Orange Bowl loss to Penn State, earning game MVP honors. He returned one punt 87 yards for a touchdown. He also had 210 all-purpose yards in the ACC title game upset of Virginia Tech.

The knock on Reid is that he is small at 5-feet-10 and 188 pounds, but with that speed, he's worth a look. He also caught 50 passes for 634 yards last year. "

Keep in mind, our 3rd round receiver last year didn't work out so well. From the 3rd round on, these guys aren't locks to be signed.

Mays is probably going to be training camp fodder this year, he seems to be the odd man out now that we have Holmes especially. Unless Willie Reid really stinks up the joint, Mays wont last through the last cut in august.

??? I don`t understand
Cons: Lacks good size to win a regular starting job as a receiver in a pro offense.

Then why waste a third on a guy that might never be a starter?? I know just because it was written does not mean its in stone, but I`m still confused.

Wasnt thjis suppose to be a weak draft for WR, and we take two day one?????

They must have seen something in Reid to make them take him, if nothing else, the highest rated player on their board at the time. Guess we'll see come camp. Plus remember, our only PR was Coclough coming into this draft, and he's nothing special in the return game so they may be looking for insurance there as well ??

Here's a thought, maybe the FO doesn't think nance is as good as alot of people in here think he is.

The man will be on our roster...

Those second guessing... Don't worry, he is a GREAT returner and he will make a solid 3/4

I like this pick too... great return man and a better all-around receiver than Bloom.

some of ya'll might be looking to much into this pick, right when i saw his speed time i knew he wasn't being brought in to play on offense, he is being brought here to return punts which is great. this is a great pick and will not be another gibson, cause gibson was being looked at to kinda replace burress, all this kid is being brought in is to return punts and possibly kickoffs

As soon as I saw this dude I remembered his 87-yard punt return against PSU in the Orange Bowl. Did he score though? I'd like to say that he did, but details are somewhat hazy due to the Troegenator Doublebock I imbibed before, during, and after that game.

edit: what the hell ever happened to Gibson? Did he drift to any other teams?

edit again: He was picked up by the Dolphins.
