I just read an artical from PPG that the steelers are trying to trade there 5th round pick for Duckett. I said a while back that the Falcons wanted to get rid of him and this would be a great move on our part to acquire him.

Thats what I`m talking about, I mentioned Duckett over and over , when we passed on White just trust our brain trust, they will make the right moves.

I would be for bringing Duckett over.

I mentioned this in a thread a few days ago.. the falcons have lead the league in rushing the last 2 years in a row.. Granted Vick had something to do without but Duckett is no push over either..he's been productive and maybe he could have his rebirth with us

Once again if this trade does go as planned, Duckett would be a steal for a fifth. And we wait until others give up on the big backs then we get them for a steal, ala Bettis and Staley, all three would have been high picks that we waited a few years and put them in the right system, for a bargain price

I'd be willing to give up one of our 4th rounders for him too !!

This is like de-ja-vo. (Excuse the spelling if its wrong) This could be the second coming of J.B. I've seen Duckett play a few times and would fit in with our style of playing.
In the words of Eric B. & Rakim (Old School Rappers) Duckett can definately "move the crowd".

After that bonehead move passing on White we better get someone like T.J. Otherwise this could be a long season without a big back in that system.:dang: :dang: :dang:

Steelers wheeling, dealing with eye on veteran running back
Sunday, April 30, 2006

By Ed Bouchette and Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers are considering making a trade for a veteran running back today and speculation is centered on big Atlanta back, T.J. Duckett.

Duckett (6-0, 254) has fallen out of favor under a new regime in Atlanta and the Falcons yesterday drafted his replacement, Jerious Norwood, a running back from Mississippi State on the third round.

The Steelers have only a pick in the fifth, sixth and seventh round available to trade but the Falcons want to get rid of Duckett and might take a fifth-rounder in return.

"I would take him in a minute, he's a load,'' said Ron Hill, the Falcons former director of player personnel when they drafted Duckett. "He's a great kid, too."

Duckett was drafted in the first round in 2002 from Michigan State. He rushed for 380 yards with a 3.1-yard average last season but scored eight touchdowns. His best season was 2003 when he rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's never had 200 carries in a NFL season.

I'd like to see it. We haven't drafted an HB yet, is there something in the works with Duckett as we type?

If this happens it could be the steal of the draft.

Just like when they traded for Bettis and look how that turned out.

exactly right Nick...Bettis' career was "reborn" in Pittsburgh.. Duckett has been effective in his time in Atlanta but he could be HUGE for us if we can get him.

ala Staley :dang:

Good call on Duckett. I was hoping for the future back in White. But if they bridge our running game into future drafts with a 5th round pick/ trade for Duckett then

Must have been the highest rated player on the board.. between the options we have with Heath, Jeremy, and of course we can always bring back Matt cushing if need be

i dunno fellas....i hope we get some strenght in the RB dept...maybe the man from atlanta might really be the ticket for us...i really dont get the TE thing but hey i trust the FO

He's always an extra body in training camp if nothing else, but hopefully he'll pan out and be an option atleast on the PS

it sounds like to me that they are getting complacent. i wouldnt be looking for back ups.....i dunno, maybe im just paranoid.

hmm. a 3rd string te or duckett? are their contract issues with duckett that would prevent us from getting him. if we trade for him we take his contract. maybe we just cant afford it.

they must have someone targetted who they will pick up after the draft as a rookie free agent. i do like the confidence the steelers are showing in willie, duce, and verron. all 3, if healthy can carry the load. especially with our upgraded passing game.

thats the key word tho...healthy.....and Duce and healthy rarely go together ......

I have a possible nickname for T.J. Duckett if he comes to the Burgh..."the Lunch Buckett" (spelled wrong on purpose to mirror his name). Thoughts?

Pick #201 Marvin Phillips, Center from Cali

tj ducketts 2006 salary is 1.4 mil. probably too much for the steelers to squeze under their cap. =no trade.

c. humes or someone as an ufa will cost $230,000

maybe when duckett is cut they will persue him and get a contract on their own terms but until then it looks as if pitt. wants to pay its 4th rb the absolute minimum

im so happy we got humes!!!!!!

A big willie?

couldnt you make that case for any runningback over 220 pounds?

This guy doesnt have speed, but hes good in the redzone in goal line situations. I like the pick!

A big willie?

what i meant, was he was picked in the 7th, almost a undrafted FA, had a few injuries like willie, same kind of guy, maybe a hidden gem, etc.

thats what i meant.

Not feeling good about this draft thing ladies and gents. White was a shoe in for this offense and we wasted him away to Tennessee. Our first rounder better be an all star right away opposite of Hines (and he sure better be able to bust through that line LOL), cause I think we're in trouble on offense this year. Every team will tee off on Big Ben knowing that we don't have that big threat behind the line. Willie is fast, but he doesn't always fit into Pittsburgh's offense. Just a thought. :dang:

Willie can fit into our offense. I dont understand when people say this. The guy rushed for 1200 yards last year! He's young, quick, and is still learning. We have Verron there to pound it out at the end of games, and duce can fill in jeromes role as long as he's healthy.

We needed a wideout, hands down. Getting Holmes was a great move

I gotcha, I didnt understand at first...I thought you meant body attributes and the way they play, lol.

I dont think our running game will be in trouble. Parker, Duce, Humes, and Hayes .. plus there is NOOOOOOO WAYYYYY in hell a team can stack the line against us and thye play man to man on Ward, Wilson, Holmes, Reid and Miller to boot. We haev 3 guys with 4.3 speed and two others in Ward and Miller who can beat someone one on one. I think we wil be just fine as long as our OL stays healthy. After the playoff games against CINCY, INDY, DENVER... people i dont think are going to say .. lets make Ben beat us for too much longer.

Must respectfully disagree with you there. A 1200 yard home run threat coupled with a decent "between the tackles" runner in Staley (when he's healthy) should be enough for the running game this year. Besides, after last year, teams have to respect the pass from Roethlisberger more. That means no more stacking 8 in the box on every first and second down.

The Steelers realize this and is why they placed first round importance in the passing game. Ben needs weapons. I liked Randel El but he just wasn't the greatest reciever. Understandable as he was a QB for most of his career. Holmes is a pure reciever who finds the end zone and is fast.

The offense will be changed to reflect the maturity of the passing game...watch.
