Anyone know what numbers the new draft picks will be sporting on their jerseys? I suppose for some of the later-round picks it's too early to say if they'll actually make the roster, but you have to figure Holmes at least will be a starter come September.

holmes- number 4? haha, no idea actually, but on the madden 07 website they had a picture of him wearing #4...

Well, that would be his college jersey number, but you don't see a lot of NFL WRs with single-digit numbers. Not that I think he shouldn't be able to wear #4 if he wants...

They wont get their numbers till they report to mini camps and coaching sessions when they get their equipment issued..and even then once they make the final cut, their numbers may change to a more traditional position oriented number unless they choose to keep their college number assuming its available.

I remember reading somewhere that only kickers, quarterbacks and punters are allowed to have single-digit numbers - though that's probably going to be changed so Reggie Bush can keep #5.

Also, it seems it's been a trend recently (Randy Moss, a few others) using numbers of 20 or below. Plexiglass did it as well, but he bought Jeff Feagles' number from him. Sounds stupid, but athletes are fairly superstitious people and I'd imagine getting the right number carries a psychological edge.

you are right about the single digit number, they just recently started letting the wr use numbers in the teens because teams were running out of numbers in the 80s or so i read in an article and saw on sportscenter this past season

Most single digit players place the appropriate position number in front of their single digit number i.e... Jerome Bettis wearing #6 in college and 36 in the pros, therefore I'm guessing that Holmes will be #84.

In his press conference, he said he'd like to wear the number 10. I'll definitely buy the jersey, but I hope he doesn't end up like an oh-so-certain #10 we've had before...

84 is gonna cost him some serious cash if he wants it.... Jerame Tuman is currently 84

he will be wearing the number 10.
is that for sure?

I was thinking maybe a 14, since 84 is Tuman. Also to elaborate on what someone said about Reggie Bush and his number 5, I highly doubt theyll allow him to do it. I remember hearing on ESPN there have been players in the past who wanted a single digit as a rb, but werent allowed.

It doesn't matter, as long as he's the goods he can do what he wants, but single digits are a no-go.

D a m n! Too late for me. I gave my Stewart jerseys to the Salvation Army about 2 months ago. Just think, an Earl Holmes jersey with a sewn on name plate combined with a Kordell Stewart jersey are now the ingredients for a fresh star-rookie jersey. 2 items that looked like total trash a week ago are now a gem with a little alteration.

#10 IT IS.....http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06122/686674-66.stm

Holmes, introduced at the Steelers' training facility at a news conference yesterday morning, said he will do anything asked of him and won't be disappointed if he doesn't catch a lot of passes. But he also acknowledged that by joining the Steelers with Reid, they have more reason to pass."There is a possibility that we can throw the ball a lot more by the draft picks," said Holmes, who will wear the No. 10 with the Steelers.
He played, after all, in a college program bred on the 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust philosophy that also evolved in the passing game.

thanks for the info I do wish he would have picked another number over 10, but oh well maybe he can make that number famous
