By Jordan Raanan

Get ready for overhyping and overanalyzing. It's Super Bowl week, in Dallas no less, where even hats go large.

By the time the Big Game rolls around, the impossible will be done. Ben Roethlisberger will be made into Mother Teresa, Ted Thompson into Ron Wolf. Reality will sit about three pegs below all the hubbub we hear and read on television, radio, newspapers and this Internet thing that was just discovered by television, radio and newspapers alike.

So before we get buried by the hyperbole that is Super Bowl week coverage, let’s try and place everything into perspective. To do so, we're going to sprinkle a little truth serum on everything in and around the Super Bowl:

So, let's be honest …

If Pittsburgh handles Green Bay on Sunday, Roethlisberger will join some pretty elite company with his third Super Bowl title. Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Tom Brady and Troy Aikman are the only QB's with three or more titles.

Adding Roethlisberger to that list is like putting Vanilla Ice's name next to Tupac, Snoop, Biggie and Jay-Z. He doesn't belong. Big Ben will be a three-time Super Bowl champ and one-time Pro Bowler -- in an era where everyone makes the Pro Bowl.

Despite the ridiculousness that's about to spouted all week, that's not the definition of all-time great. I don't care how many rings he accumulates. In fact, Big Ben's not even going to be the best quarterback on the field Sunday when he meets Aaron Rodgers.

Roethlisberger is pretty darn good; his organization is great. He's a Top 10 quarterback in the NFL today -- not even Top 5 -- who only needs to make a handful of plays per game for his team to win. Fortunately for him, football is a team game where the quarterback gets all the credit (or blame).

This ridiculousness that Roethlisberger is in the same stratosphere as Brady and Peyton Manning? Save it for another sucker. Big Ben played one of the worst Super Bowls of any quarterback in history (22.6 QB rating vs. Seattle) ... and won. He has been blessed to play with the support of a Top 5 scoring defense in five of his seven professional seasons. The two times Pittsburgh didn't finish in the top five, the Steleers missed the playoffs.

If Manning made only a handful of plays per game, Indy would lose most weeks by 20. Ditto a handful of other top QBs (Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Donovan McNabb, Rodgers, Tony Romo) over the past seven seasons.

There isn't a day that goes by that Roethlisberger shouldn't thank his lucky stars that he was drafted by the most stable and successful organization in NFL history. If he were drafted by the Oakland Raiders, he'd be a slightly more successful JaMarcus Russell. Yep, I just said that.

Instead, because he plays on the Steelers, a pretty good NFL quarterback is on the verge of being considered an all-time great.

Please. Think Rivers or McNabb would have won Super Bowls with the Steelers? I do. Romo too. Yep, I just said that too.

I'm not trying to be a Roethlishater. He's a good NFL quarterback. But when people start calling Big Ben great, someone has to bring those people back down to the reality where the rest of us live, breathe and watch football with clear eyes.

Let's be honest ...

The two-week break between Championship Weekend and Super Bowl Sunday is painful. The Pro Bowl completely held us over this past week, like the cashews in a bag of Schwimmer's Health-Glo after a month on one of Survivor's islands.

At least there were three hours of Pro Bowl practices each day on the NFL Network. And a three-hour preview show for the most meaningless football game each year.

Thankfully, Hank Moody was around to satisfy my Sunday night. That man finds more trouble than Charlie Sheen. And I love him dearly for that.

Potpourri
Something tells me Chris Kemoeatu wasn't supposed to tell the world Maurkice Pouncey wasn't going to play in the Super Bowl. But is it surprising coming from a guy who dove into the pile 20 seconds late every other play against the Ravens? … Packers GM Ted Thompson deserves a few apologies. Like from the guy who created this site. Or this site. And this guy who called him an a@@clown on many occasions. The Packers didn't just reach the Bowl. They did it with with seven opening day starters on Injured Reserve and the guy who Thompson chose over Brett Favre at quarterback. Give credit where credit is due. … If the league and networks that broadcast the games want to stop being hypocrites, maybe they shouldn't show slow-motion replays of Rex Ryan slamming his headset and mouthing the most visible F-bomb of all-time. … Rodgers needs a new TD celebration. The championship belt act was fresh back when wrestling was still called WWF. … The players this weekend expressed their desire to keep the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Um, OK. Who wouldn't want that free trip? Otherwise it's next year in Detroit.

Yeah - too bad Brady and Manning have to suffer by playing for teams with dysfunctional unstable front offices like New England and Indy

As has been posted here before, wonder what the over/under would be on the number of games Brady or Manning would last playing behind Ben's o-line

This guy covers the Eagles for a cable company - not exactly the pinnacle of the sports journalism pyramid

Everyone wants to mention the GREAT STEELERS D when talking about BB's wins. But nobody, and I mean NOBODY will mention the GREAT OFFENSIVE LINES that Brady and Manning play behind and are protected by. Put Brady or Manning behind our OLine and see what happens. WTF? This idiot wants us to come back down to reality ... well, hell, he needs to as well!!!

I somewhat agree with this dude. Ben is good, but not great. He's benefited for playing on one of the best franchises in sports.

You have to credit him for being clutch, at least - which is basically why Joe Montana is considered 'great'.

Montana never threw for more than 31 TDs, and he retired with a 92.3 quarterback rating. He threw for 273 TDs and 139 INTs, a TD to INT ratio of 1.9. Joe averaged 18.2 TDs per season and 9.2 INTs per season,

Contrast that with Ben. Ben has a carer 92.5 quarterback rating (which was brought down greatly 2006 season filled with turmoil). He's thrown 144 TDs and 86 INTs, a TD to INT ratio of 1.67. Ben averages 20.5 TDs per season and 12.2 INTs.

Ben and Montana have similar somewhat pedestrian (more pedestrian than Brady and Manning, anyway) regular season stats. But, Montana is 'great' because of clutch post season performances. This is exactly what Ben does.

What about John Elway for Pete's sake! The only reason why Elway is roundly considered a 'great' QB is because of his clutch comebacks. His rating when he retired was 79.9. Ben's stats are much better than Elway's.

Big Ben will be a three-time Super Bowl champ and one-time Pro Bowler -- in an era where everyone makes the Pro Bowl.

To be fair, he's in the same conference with media-darling regular season stalwarts Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. With equal or better performances, it's still very difficult to get in over those guys.

If Ben were in the NFC, he would have probably made the Pro Bowl every season except for maybe 2006 and 2010.

Starting to not even look at BS like this. When ever I hear anything negative about Ben it's almost always from a nobody reporter. The big names in reporting pretty much think Ben's top 3 or top 5, so I don't understand why these "no name" columnists insist on trying to downgrade Ben. Seems like if your somebody that nobody knows, the thing to do is trash #7 for the Steelers.

What in the 4377 did Troy Aikman ever do that made him so special? He handed the damn ball off to Emmitt.... :banging: You can't compare thet turd to the things that Ben does!!!

ahhhhhh. The "blogging" world we live in. I couldn't disagree more. Problem is, everyone, including amateurs and bitter fans alike, get almost a national podium with their "expertise"

I'll just take Brady as one example. Look how flustered and scared he gets when he's getting a little bit of pressure in NE and almost exlusively plays bad when he's getting pressured and blitzed. He benefits from a ridiculously strong OL and has for years now.
Lets take this year. If Brady played for us.....he would never have been able to make the plays Ben has and he would have never got his quick read off either (so if you were going to say that, sit down....).
Then the flipside. Can you imagine if Ben played behind that OL of steel in NE or Indy?? It would be ridiculous. Ben would be racking stats up all day along and til next Tuesday.
Sorry...
Ben IS great. Oh, and Romo???? PUL-eeze.......

The dumbest shit i hear is when they say look at the D on his team lol. Ya because troy aikman did it all by himself he never had probowlers in every single position. Steve young did it all by himself he had a shit team and brady did it all by himself he didnt have a shut down defense lol. GTFO here if u hate ben then hate him but dont try to act like hes just managing the game **** off witht that bullshit.Or they say well the steelers went 3-1 without him so what the patriots won 11 games in one season without BRADY! GTFO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

So ben just stumbled into 3 superbowls ? It`s the hardest game to get to
in sports and he accidently got there 3 times in 6 years? The man is so speacial
he can have a poor game [statisticly] and still win the game for you. What was he
11 for 17 with a interception ? And i loved his game that day, that was a great fricken playoff game . And when it ended i was just taken back the way everbody
bashed Ben in the postgame shows saying the Steelers won despite his performence. WOW! Were they watching the same game i was? Ben went out there
with a broken foot , broken nose , torn up knee , and just did what ben does. Win
playoff games . And whatever troll wasted his time finishing reading that article ,
then wasted my time making me read it should be made to take Tom Bradey

There is a common perception that to be a great QB you have to be in a passing offense and you need to put up big fantasy numbers. This is the sole reason that Ben doesn't get the respect guys like Manning, Brady, and Rodgers get.

Was Greg Maddux as good as Randy Johnson? Randy struck guys out with ease...Randy threw in the high 90's most of his career. Maddux was a completely different kind of pitcher but he got the same results. He won. I see Ben in the same way.

Most consider John Elway one of the greatest ever. Ben's stats are very similar to Elway. Their style of play is pretty similar as well. Ben does things most QBs cant' do. As did John Elway. Ben has made a career out of lifting the team on his back and winning the game when everything was on the line. As did Elway. Elway had one season were he threw for over 4k yards. Ben has done that already.

Ben will go down as one of the greatest QB's of all time. Just as John Elway has. And the stats will back it up.

This is too that idiot writer who only watches espn highlights, not Steeler games......

Championship games and Superbowl record without Ben since 94.....

1 win.....4 losses

Since Ben........... 7 wins.....1 loss...........

Blow it out your Bungle hole..............Cause you sound like a Bungles fan.......

In the 5 losses, its arguable we had better defenses then too.......

No kidding. Funny how the author neglected to mention along with how "lucky" Roethlisberger is to play for the Steelers the simple fact that the only reason Romo is as massively overhyped and overrated as he is to begin with is because he plays for the Cowboys.

Pro Bowls are apparently more meaningful than Super Bowls. i can't believe he gets paid to write this shit.

for the hell of it, someone should tell this asshole Ben turned down an invite as first-alternate last year to rest his shoulder. i guess that means Matt Schaub, Vince Young and David Garrard (2010 Pro Bowlers) are all better than Ben.

I'd also bet money that the Cowboys are at the very top of the preseason power rankings and a "favorite" to win the NFC championship again at the beginning of next season. The only reason anyone even knows Romo's name is because of all the hype that team gets, every bit of it being completely unearned and undeserved.

This guy is a crappy journalist. He mentions Super Bowl XL, fair enough but he also neglects to mention that Ben played at a high level on the road to get there. Oh and he beat Manning to get there too. Plus he never mentions at all the comeback against the CArdinals in the SB a couple years ago. And as for the defense, so what? I got news for the author but Brady's stats were awestruck when the Pats had strong D's. They were more pedesterian. And the Colts never building a strong D around Manning is their problem. We don't call Montana one of the best QBs of all time because Montana had these pretty stats. People call montana a great because they knew when they needed a big drive late in the game, he was the man for the job and Ben is that for us.The man has made the AFC Championship in four of his seven years as a starter. That's impressive no matter who we're talking about.

here are the 3 ways that are fool proof ways of drawing traffic to your site:

Sarah Palin = always draws traffic.

Say something Negative about the Steelers = Always Draws Traffic.
