They turned over a rock and discovered a DE who is 6'6" 285 lbs. and a 4.57 forty.
A former QB gained 100 lbs to play on the other side of the ball. Hopefully orange was the only juice in his diet. Sick speed for a guy that tall. Are the Steelers planning on blocking kicks next year?

See, now THIS is a wise pick! Alonzo Jackson/Kamerion Wimbley at or about pick #44 is not.

I cant wait till training camp and see how all of the "new steeelers pan out." This will even be better because we get to keep alot more players longer now and a few of thsoe hidden gems could suprise some people. Cant wait till Latrobe !!!!!

YESSSSSSSSS he did and followed him throughout his career !!! I think Rooney saw Parker in high school and kept up with him and brought him in as an undrafted rookie.

It sounds like Vickers has some potential. I hope he becomes a beast.

well i dont think we need to worry about another team hiring him away as a scout or director of player personnel.

what a beast !

When and where did that 40 time come from?
Add +0.12 until its verified. Still a strong 40 on a guy that big. Wonder how his strength and quickness rate.

Hopefully he's another diamond in the rough and he fits the squad.

damn if those numbers are true we have a very good young player, speed and size :) perfect for our 3-4 defense, i always enjoy seeing who we sign as ufa's cause they always tend to help us in a year or two, see Krider, Parker, Harrison, Washington??

Lee Vickers always wanted to play QB which he did at Athens High School along with some guy named Phillip Rivers. It is amazing to watch someone 6-6 280 run the way he does. He is not an awkward runner the way another former UNA Lion and Pittsburgh Steeler, Isreal Raybon. When he's tracking down a RB or WR on the other side of the field, which he did a lot of, his running style looks more like a RB or WR. Of course he's still learning to play defense. As many times as his speed allowed him to run down backs and receivers, it also ran him right out of just as many plays. I'm sure Mr. Cowher will insist he develope a defensive mentality. Because of his natural physical tools, he has a tremendous upside. I know some were comparing him to Howie Long but he reminds me most of another former Raider. When I see him hawking a back out in the flat with that tremendous wingspan, I think of a mad stork, The Mad Stork Ted Hendrix. But physically, Vickers is both bigger and faster than the Stork. It may take a while but I think the Steelers have gotten a player with tremendous potential. I know Cowher doesn't mind using a gadget play now and then and since Randle El is gone, Vickers WAS a QB...... he was also a pretty darned good punter. Just picture a 6-6 280 pound punter running out of there on a fake:cool:

Forgot to mention Vickers had a different def. coordinator every year at UNA. He'll be helped by consistency in coaching.

Looking forward to seeing this guy for sure.
