FORT WORTH, Texas -- One day after they officially announced that Maurkice Pouncey would not play in Super Bowl XLV, the Steelers put their rookie Pro Bowl center on the injured reserve list and activated guard Dorian Brooks to the 53-man roster.

The move was made to give the Steelers an extra body on the offensive line for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. But it also was done to give the team another player who can play center, if necessary.

Brooks, an undrafted rookie free agent who was on the team's practice squad, has played both positions in practice for the Steelers.

Doug Legursky will start at center, replacing Pouncey, who had started all 18 games this season until he was injured in the AFC Championship game. But his backup is guard/tackle Trai Essex, who has never played center in a game at any level.
