I know WR is not our largest area of need, but it is also
not completely solid, with Hines being over 35 and Randel
El not being much at this point either. So, it's not as if WR
is an area we can totally assume is good to go. I also
know Pgh's way is not to do much in free agency, but they
still look for some bargain deals once in a while.

vincent jackson (sd) -- too high profile/costly

sidney rice - Major baller but too costly
santonio holmes - hippie lettuce
braylon edwards - poor character
malcom floyd - ehhh
steve smith - wearing out
terrell owens - NO Fing way
randy moss - No Fing way
mike williams - no
james jones - no
steve breaston - worth considering if he came cheap
Early Doucet (ARZ) " " " "" "
Brian Finneran (ATL) " " ""
Donte' Stallworth (BAL) - NO. all Speed, makes 5 catches a season
TJ Houshmandzadeh (BAL) - Too much hatred. He sucked any how
Rashied Davis (CHI) - who?
Devin Aromashadu (CHI) - who?
Chansi Stuckey (CLE)- crap
Sam Hurd (DAL) - crap
Jacoby Jones (HOU) - no
Mike Sims-Walker (JAC) - Doubt it
Kevin Curtis (MIA) - only if bottom dollar
Hank Baskett (MIN)
Greg Lewis (MIN)
Lance Moore (NO)
Courtney Roby (NO)
Derek Hagan (NYG)
Darius Reynaud (NYG)
Brad Smith (NYJ) - not a WR
Johnnie Lee Higgins (OAK) - Upside. Raw, fast
Legedu Naanee (SD)
Ben Obomanu (SEA)
Laurent Robinson (STL)
Danny Amendola (STL) - short white guy
Mark Clayton (STL) - under-achiever
Maurice Stovall (TB) - big target
Santana Moss (WAS) - too old

I guess there isn't much there to even consider. Signing a FA WR
looks unlikely.

Breaston or Roby I'd take if they came at the right price. I wouldn't be upset with Naanee or Higgins either.

I wouldn't overlook Santana Moss either. If El doesn't stick around, he could fill that roll pretty well I think. He's better than El IMO. If we get a WR in FA it won't be to keep them around for a while either, it'll just be for depth and maybe a bit more of veteran experience.

How can anyone still think Sweed will ever amount to jack shit?

I don't know either. I mean, I guess if he comes into camp (and doesn't injure himself this time), and completely wows the coaches, I say give him a shot at keeping a spot.

Personally though, I'd prefer to bring in an experienced FA over Sweed right off the bat.

If they want to bring him in for mini camps, etc. and early
in main camp, I could live with it. But not at the expense
of any more likely candidates to make it. You know, like
when the undrafted free agents are there, etc. But if he
doesn't go lights out by the first cuts, I hope they dump
him early.

It's the NFL. Anybody can reach their potential at any time. Look at Mike Williams in Seattle.

Steve Breaston is from Woodland Hills around Pittsburgh and I think he would be a great fit into our system.

The Rooney's aren't going to spend a boat load on a wideout when our needs are very much highlighted elsewhere. However, that doesn't mean we can find an explosive receiver that can fit into a mold or a rotation. Expect a Cedric Wilson type player, one that will come cheap but yet, fit into the plan to help us win and WILL help us win.

Ben was starting to target Sanders and Brown more often during the latter half of the season so I think it'll be tough for a free agent to come in here and push one of those guys out, especially since Sweed has one more go at it. We'll see.

Yeah me too. It's be one thing if we didn't have needs in other area's, but we need to revamp our secondary and add depth to both lines.

If Hines is back then no need to get another WR.

i know it's a stretch but if we can get breaston for a reasonable deal i'm all for it. the kid is only in his 4th year and would still have a lot of mileage left

1st round pick + butler steps up can solve our issues. or at least improve it. hopefully the new db coach develops our db's faster so someone with 1st round talent could be ready to play in game 1.

I don't know man. Breaston has a lot of potential and I see a lot of teams going after him.

There's no way he's coming to Pittsburgh.

I also don't see the FO going after him, either.

But. It would be great nonetheless.

I'd like to see Sweed get another chance and see if it's his time. It could be and that would be great.

The Steelers aren't about to dive into the FA market, its highly doubtful.

Read original post of thread. It was stated that Pgh barely will
touch FA market, and if they do, it is guys high on value, low
on cost. Although, out of necessity, they did sign Hotel last
year, and he was not bottom of the barrel is price.
