Once again, we're going to have a player accused of something, most likely not charged with anything, who will get off virtually scott-free.

I still loathe Goodell for the Roethlisberger treatment. And so many more other reason too, but this incident will just end up peeving me off again about Ben.

Thanks to a post on Deadspin.com, the report that Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather was involved in a shooting two weeks ago started percolating heavily on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

According to an attorney, John Morgan, for the two people shot a "friend of Meriweather's allegedly beat up a woman" and the woman's brother and a friend arrived later to the Blue Jeans Lounge in Apokpa. A fight erupted after the crew moved to a nearby house part, Meriweather's friend allegedly got beat up, and "that's when allegedly pulled out his gun and fired at the brother, grazing the man's face and hitting the other victim in the head."

However, the Orange County Sheriff's Department told CBSSports.com that any discussion of Meriweather's involvement in this shooting was "pure speculation."

"There is an incident," a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department told CBSSports.com. "But we do not have confirmation that [Meriweather] was involved in any shape or form.

"There is no such confirmation."

The Sheriff's Department did add that a case, involving the shootings in question, "is still active."

Sounds like Goodell will only give him 4 games then. :banging:

He plays for the Cheats. Goodell is more likely to ban a Steeler player for life than to suspend a Cheat.

Upon identifying a potential embarrassment by a Patricheat, Goodell reviewed a tape of this incident and after viewing slow motion replay, he has decided that James Harrison intentionally led with his helmet. $75,000 fine for Harrison and the tape was destroyed. When asked of any fines for Merriweather, Goodell responded "Who the hell's Merriweather?".
