View Full Version : The Official "We're Over .500" Thread
06-17-2011, 02:29 AM
I'm planning on keeping this thread going every single day while we're over .500! It certainly may not last long, so let's party it up Bucco fans!!!!!!
06-17-2011, 10:16 PM
Ok ok, so we lost today. One could even say we got crushed. Indians beat us 5-1 in a game we probably could have won, but the offense didn't show up to the ballpark. Cleveland fans can't cheer on the Clowns and they don't have Lebron anymore, so I'm thinking our Buccos just let em have one. Let's get em tomorrow! We're still over .500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
06-23-2011, 03:09 PM
Just thought I'd drop by before it's too late.

RAAAAAAIIIIIIIISE THE JOOOOOOOOLLLLY ROOOOGER!!!!!
The BATTLIN BUCS Beat the Boston RED SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-1
How bout that performance! Maholm doesn't go as far as I thought he needed to but the bullpen was fantastic! Hanrahan absolutely SHUTS the door! How bout that! I LOVE IT! LET'S STAY OVER THE MARK but you know what, it's not just about the .500 mark, we are in this division race! Let's do this!!!!!
06-25-2011, 09:18 PM
OUR BATTLIN BUCS ARE HANDLING THE RED SOX! TWO GAMES OVER .500 AS WE TAKE THE SERIES FROM BOSTON! ENJOY THAT FAIRWEATHER BOSTON FANS!!
I LOVE THIS TEAM. KEEP IT UP BATTLIN BUCS!
06-27-2011, 07:07 PM
I thought I posted here yesterday after we lost the third game to Boston? Did it get deleted? Who knows. Maybe the admins here don't like the Bucco talk :toofunny:
Off day today, but we're still over .500!
Bring it on Jose....
06-28-2011, 03:10 PM
Kevin Correia on the mound tonight as the Buccos look to once again go two games over .500. Correia is also looking for his 10th win of the season as the Bucs face Jo Jo (what kind of name is that? Sounds like a stripper name) Reyes and the Blue Jays.
GET IT BATTLIN BUCS!
06-28-2011, 06:54 PM
Alex Presley was called up to replace Tabata in the lineup. In his second at bat he hits a two run bomb! THATA KID ALEX, WELCOME TO THE SHOW! 2-0 lead.
BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS!
06-28-2011, 09:47 PM
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER IN TORONTO!
Kevin Correia gets his tenth win! Even though he tried to blow it. Tony Watson was a little discouraging coming into to give up back to back bombs, but Veras and Hanrahan absolutely SHUT THE DOOR.
How bout the kid Alex Presley? Guy comes in and delivers a bomb and 3 RBIs! McCutchen's homer to left was the difference tonight, Bucs take game 1 from the Jays in a 7-6 match. We're now in third place by ourselves as the Reds lost tonight!!!!! The Brewers also got DEMOLISHED by the Yankees, so we're once again just 3 games back!
LET'S GET IT BATTLIN BUCS! DON'T SETTLE FOR THIRD, WE'RE ON A QUEST FOR THE NL CENTRAL!
06-29-2011, 05:09 PM
Our BATTLIN BUCS battle the Blue Jays tonight in the second game of the series! Let's win it tonight and take the series in Toronto! CMON BATTLIN BUCS!
06-29-2011, 09:11 PM
Pretty bad loss from our Pirates tonight. Baserunning mistakes and awful at bats were the story tonight. Neil Walker, Garrett Jones, and Matt Diaz all successfully contribute to giving this team a well deserved loss tonight. Maholm pitched wonderfully, but got no support.
Unfortunate loss for the Bucs tonight, but we're still over .500!!!!
06-30-2011, 02:49 PM
Pirates take on the Jays in the series finale tonight, let's get a win and take the series! We're still over .500 right now, but if we lose tonight we won't be! I wanna keep posting on this thread!!!!!!! CMON BATTLIN BUCS!
06-30-2011, 10:14 PM
How bout it baby? THEM BATTLIN BUCS DO IT AGAIN! Winning their first road interleague series since 2003!!!!! Wow that's incredible.
Boy I thought the lineup looked very weak tonight. Diaz hitting 4thth, Overbay hitting 5th, Cedeno hitting 6th, and Wood in the DH role. Looks like the BATTLIN BUCS came through for us though! Everyone chipped in tonight. Presley hit a nice sac fly early, Wood dialed long distance, Cedeno had an RBI double, Diaz shot an RBI single to opposite field, the team looked great tonight. And while all that was going on, Karstens pitched another gem.
I love this team. This is the year we beat the streak, the time is NOW!
BEAT EM BUCS!

Bucs lost a tough one in Washington tonight. Washington is a pretty good team, so I'm not worrying too much. I have a feeling that we are going to struggle there, if we are able to come out with a series split to stay at two games over .500 I will be quite happy.
Tim Wood needs to be off the Pirates. I know the offense was weak tonight, but man this guy totally blows. The only reason why he is up here is because of the injuries to Evan Meek and Joe Beimel, but man....there has to be some guy down there at AAA that can do better than this loser. With that being said, this offense makes me nervous. We have not put up a lot of run support at all over the past couple of weeks, and it's pretty obvious why. We have so many players on the DL that half our lineup is just fill in guys, and they aren't going to get the job done. We need some of those players off the DL and we probably need to make a bit of a move at the deadline to add to this lineup.
If we can do those things I have faith in this Pirates team that we might actually be in this race for quite a while. And hey, if all else fails, at least we're still over .500!!!!
07-02-2011, 01:02 PM
Our Buccos take on Washington again tonight! If we win this one, we're back to two games over. If we lose then we are at .500 and I can't post on this thread until they get back over! Come on Bucs!!!!!!
07-02-2011, 07:06 PM
Our BATTLIN BUCS took one from the Washington Nationals this afternoon. They are trying to take game 2 of the double header as I type this!! The game is 2-1 BUCCOS in the top of the third. CMON BATTLIN BUCS, LET'S MAKE IT TO THREE GAMES OVER .500!!!!!!!!!!!!
07-02-2011, 09:13 PM
The Pirates embarrass the city of Pittsburgh with a pathetic loss against the Nationals tonight. I would be a better defensive catcher than Eric Fryer, and Tony Watson helps to blow what looked like a win for Pittsburgh. If they lose tomorrow they drop back to .500 even. That's not gonna cut it Pirates, you have to do better than that.
07-03-2011, 03:53 PM
The Pirates looked pissed off today as they took out last night's frustrations on Jason Marquis! That's what I like to see from our Buccos. The Pirates crawl back to two games over .500, and if the Twins are able to hold on to their 2 run lead over the Brewers we will be just 1 1/2 games back in the division! BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS!!!
07-04-2011, 03:49 PM
HOW ABOUT IT? THEM BATTLIN BUCS CRAWL TO 3 GAMES OVER THE .500 MARK AND JUST A GAME OUT OF FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was looking like the Pirates wanted to throw this one away when the Pirates made three errors in the top of the third inning to hand the Astros a 3-1 lead, but the Pirates came roaring back. Presley was the offensive catalyst in this one, getting on base 4 times including an RBI triple!
Nice to see the offense finally let Paul have a win. We need to keep beating up on the Astros. The Brewers are at home against the Dbacks today, and the Reds and Cards get to beat up on each other in a 3 game set. This is a huge point in the Pirates season, it's time to separate the men from the boys, and WE ARE MEN! C'MON BATTLIN BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
07-05-2011, 04:52 PM
The Pirates take on the Houston Astros tonight in an attempt to get 4 games over .500! CMON BUCS!
07-05-2011, 09:08 PM
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Houston Astros convincingly at home tonight 5-1! Jeff Karstens goes 7 innings giving up 7 hits but just one run. Brandon Wood dialed long distance and added another RBI single to vault the Pirates over Houston tonight!!! The Buccos move to 4 games over the .500 mark and if the Arizona Diamondbacks cling to their 7-2 lead over the Brewers in the 7th inning, the Bucs will claim sole possession of 2nd place in the NL Central!
I love it! The Bucs just keep battlin! That's what we do!
07-06-2011, 09:15 PM
Poor game tonight as the Bucs get crushed by the Astros. Some shoddy defense opens up a big inning for the Stros, and the Pirates just couldn't recover. The biggest concern was Morton, who had a pretty bad mental lapse which sent across quite a few runs.
I'm not concerned at all about the Bucs, they will keep battlin until the all star break! We're still over .500!
07-08-2011, 10:39 PM
MICHAEL MCKENRY! THE FORT! OH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
WHAT A WIN FOR THE BATTLIN BUCS! MICHAEL MCKENRY HITS HIS FIRST BLAST OF THE YEAR OFF OF CARLOS MARMOL, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????????????????????????????????????????
The Bucs don't take first place tonight because the Reds are a F*CKING JOKE! They blow a 2 run lead in the 9th, but the Buccos will get there soon enough!
KEEP BATTLIN BUCS, I LOVE IT!
07-09-2011, 04:13 PM
The Pirates take on the Chicago Cubs again tonight at PNC Park at 7:05 EST. Wow. How do you respond to last night's victory? What can the Pirates do today to top that? I'm not sure anything could send the crowd into more of a frenzy than the homer last night. Maybe if McKenry walks off tonight the stadium might get a bit louder, but if PNC Park gets any louder it might explode. Imagine playoff baseball there. My god. Incredible.
BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS!
07-09-2011, 09:10 PM
Pirates lose in front of a sell out crowd today in PNC Park. Correia with an awful start giving up 5 runs going just 3 2/3 innings. Karstens should be going to the all star game instead of Correia, but oh well.
The Bucs battled hard but it just wasn't there night. Go out tomorrow and win the series!
07-10-2011, 03:41 PM
Just a feel good win for the BATTLIN BUCS today! Last game before the All Star break and we really wanted a win today, the Bucs crush the Cubs 9-1 to win the series. Andrew McCutchen drove in 5 runs just a day after he was inducted into the All Star game. Walker crushed the ball today, with two doubles and a triple. Maholm went 7 2/3 innings just giving up 1 run.
Not much went wrong for the Bucs today. Great game, and if the Reds hold on to their one run lead in the last inning against the Milwaukee Brewers, we will move into a second place tie. The Dbacks need to rally against the Cardinals for us to move into first place, but I'm not holding my breath.
We don't play for quite a while, but I'll probably keep this thread going because we're still above .500, and it doesn't look like our Buccos are looking back!!!!!!!
07-13-2011, 12:05 AM
The Pirates got a bit of national attention on Tuesday during the All Star game. Both Joel Hanrahan and Andrew McCutchen made appearances and showed their stuff to a national audience.
Keep enjoying the All Star break Buccos, and Bucco fans, we have a lot of hard work to do afterward!
07-15-2011, 05:19 PM
The second half of the Pirates season officially gets started in just under two hours! Here's to hoping that the second half is as good as the first. BEAT EM BUCS!
07-15-2011, 09:57 PM
DO IT BUCS!
OH BABY! Jeff Karstens goes the distance giving up nothing! Well, he gave up some hits but no runs! A complete game shut out for the kid Jeff!
The Buccos beat the Astros tonight 4-0, getting the main run support from Andrew McCutchens 2 run triple and Neil Walker's 1st inning RBI single. Awesome way to start out the first half Pirates! Oh and not to mention.....WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE BABY! HOW BOUT IT! YOUR BUCCOS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NL CENTRAL. LET'S DO THIS!
BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS!
07-16-2011, 05:17 PM
The Pirates face off against the Stros again tonight to try to go 6 games over .500 and stay in 1st place! Why the hell has nobody joined in on this thread yet?? The Pirates are much more exciting than the Steelers right now, especially since it's the offseason! Get with the real story Pittsburgh!
07-16-2011, 10:37 PM
****! The Pirates lost to the Astros tonight thanks to a complete meltdown from Jose Veras. I don't want to talk about it, that was sad. C'mon Bucs, you gotta be better than that. We need to take the series tomorrow, we can't lose to garbage teams in that fashion.
07-18-2011, 12:40 AM
Big comeback win earler today for da Bucs in Texas. Joel Hanrahan got his first blown save of the year in the 8th inning, but it really wasn't his fault as Veras was yanked for giving up a lead off base hit and a couple of really hard hit outs. The Bucs came back though and scored 3 runs in the 11th inning. Alex Presley was huge tonight as he had three RBIs, Kevin Correia also had a two run double in the second inning.
All in all, pretty crazy game, certainly not one that makes me EXTREMELY excited to face the Reds, but a wins a win, we'll take it.
Keep on battlin, BATTLIN BUCS!
07-18-2011, 04:20 PM
The BATTLIN BUCS face off against the Reds' Dontrelle Willis tonight. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BUCS!
07-19-2011, 01:05 AM
GET OFF ME NL CENTRAL! WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE ALL BY OURSELVES. THAT'S HOW WE DO BUSINESS AT HOME IN PITTSBURGH AIN'T THAT RIGHT BUCCOS? WE DON'T MESS AROUND AGAINST THE REDS!
CHARLIE ELECTRIC STUFF THROWS 5 INNINGS OF SCORELESS BALL AFTER HAVING TO ENDURE A COUPLE OF LONG RAIN DELAYS!
OH AND IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING, YEAH THIS IS GONNA BE ALL IN CAPS, CAUSE I'M ****ING SCREAMING AND I'M ****ING PUMPED!
TONY ****ING WATSON COMES THROUGH WITH 2 2/3 INNINGS OF AWESOME RELIEF WORK AND D CUTCH SHUTS DOWN THE REST OF THE INNING, THEN HAMMERTIME COMES IN IN THE 9TH AND DELIVERS WHAT ELSE???? THE HAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE DBACKS DELIVER AGAINST THE BREWERS TONIGHT AND THE CARDINALS DIDN'T PLAY, SO OUR BUCCOS ARE ALL BY THEMSELVES IN 1ST PLACE IN THE NL CENTRAL. THAT IS HOW WE ****ING DO IT PITTSBURGH. LET'S KEEP IT GOING. BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
07-19-2011, 05:25 PM
Our Buccos take on the Reds again tonight in Pittsburgh. Going for 6 straight wins against Cincinnati for the first time since 1991.
07-19-2011, 10:41 PM
TENACITY! THE BATTLIN BUCS WILL NOT QUIT!
18 straight scoreless innings against the best offensive team in the NL. Still not convinced about the Buccos pitching staff yet? Well then you're a moron. James McDonald STILL hasn't made it through seven innings yet this year, but 6 1/3 very effective innings were enough to get the job done. He got in a major jam in the seventh, loading the bases with two of the best Reds hitters at the plate.
Joe Beimel struck out Jay Bruce. One of the biggest strikeouts in PNC Park history. I know that sounds like a stretch....but take into consideration PNC Park's history....yeah, exactly.
Then comes Chris Resop. I was really dogging this guy earlier in the year, it seemed like he just couldn't figure it out in pressure situations. Boy has this guy come around. He gets Stubbs to bounce out to second base and then proceeds to pitch a scoreless 8th.
Hanrahan comes in the 9th. His velocity looked a little down early in the inning, he was only topping out at 96, LOL! He let 2 men on base, then his velocity started to come back up to the 98 range. Hanny nails yet another one down, and the Buccos win again.
The Bucs are receiving major nationwide attention now, as we should be. We no longer have to scoreboard watch other teams after the night is over to see if the Buccos will be in 2nd or 1st place. If the Buccos win, we KNOW they are in first. This team is so solid. Unbelievable that last year we got our 51st win exactly two months from now. What an improvement! What a team! What a city! I LOVE THE BUCCOS, LET'S RIDE THIS PITCHING STAFF ALL THE WAY TO THE POSTSEASON!
BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS!

I have nothing to add. I just didn't want you to get lonely in here, mcg. :hatsoff:
Are you suggesting that you normally have something to add?
WELCOME ABOARD WALLY
Welcome to the lonely confines of the Pittsburgh Pirates section of the Steelers Fever forum!! It has been a cold and dark place for a long long time, but things are looking brighter and brighter every day. The BATTLIN BUCS have a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE series starting up tomorrow in the Burgh against the St. Louis Cardinals. PNC Park should be sold out all three days, I wouldn't be surprised if there are attendance records broken. That place is going to be electric. I cannot wait to watch tomorrow. I know you don't love baseball Wally, but I hope you'll be tuning in!!!!
BEAT EM BUCS
07-22-2011, 03:00 PM
MOOOOOOOOONSTER series kicking off tonight at 6:05 Central time at PNC Park. Pirates have the Cardinals in a 3 game weekend series. PNC Park is already sold out for all three nights.
BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCS. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
07-23-2011, 08:10 PM
NEAL HUNTINGTON WHAT THE **** ARE YOU DOING? Pedro Alvarez is tearing up triple A yet you continue to march Chase d'Arnaud out onto the field and he has been absolutely god awful so far. FIGURE IT OUT NEAL. We need bats, and that starts with bringing Pedro up.
The Pirates are down big to the Cardinals and are going to lose their third game in a row. Neal Huntington continues to sit on his ass and do something. I'm getting very frustrated because we are still in this division race but we are falling fast. ****ING DO SOMETHING NEAL.
07-24-2011, 10:38 PM
The Pirates win in walk off fashion with a sac fly from Chase d'Arnaud in the 10th. I still don't think Chase d'Arnaud should be on this team. Who knows, if Alvarez was on this team maybe we don't even need to walk off today, or maybe Alvarez hits a walk off home run rather than a walk off sac fly. But I digress...
Morton gives an ok performance, but the bullpen really shined today. Grilli is looking like a very nice pickup so far. The Bucs NEED to add offense. COME ON NEAL, MAKE IT HAPPEN.
The Buccos are on national television tomorrow at 7 PM EST against the Braves. I'm very nervous that we are trotting this offense out there on national television. Hopefully they can come up big. COME ON BUCS!
07-25-2011, 03:57 PM
ALVAREZ IS BACK BABY!!!! Recalled from AAA Indy today, Pedro Alvarez will be batting fifth tonight for the BATTLIN BUCS!!!! BRING IT PEDRO!!!
07-26-2011, 01:58 AM
BUCS BABY, BUCS!!!!!
Huge win in front of a national audience today as the Bucs win game one of the four game set in Atlanta. We weren't ready to go right away, a two hour ran delay had me sitting nervously wondering if this one was gonna get called off....but nope, we played, AND WE DELIVERED!!!!
The Buccos just play Bucco baseball, they squeeze out a few small ball runs and just shut down the opponent the rest of the way. J MAC fanned NINE Braves through 5 1/3 innings. Yeah, he REALLY needs to find a way to go deeper into ball games, but he was still very good. From there on out, the bullpen was lights out except for a harmless solo shot that D Cutch gave up to Chipper Jones. Pedro Alvarez went 1/3 with a walk on his return back. He didn't look bad. Although the Braves only hit ONE ground ball the entire game, and it was to Alvarez, who booted it. Oh well, he'll come around.
We are getting sooooooo close to the trade deadline I can feel it. By Sunday at midnight we will know what kind of help our Buccos are going to get as we come down the final stretch of the season. There are new rumors floating out there every day. COME ON NEAL, JUST GET SOMEONE. OUR BUCCOS ARE DOING THEIR PART AND BATTLIN HARD, GET THEM SOME HELP. BEAT EM BATTLIN BUCCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
07-27-2011, 02:14 PM
There are no words to describe one of the worst calls in MLB history. People are comparing this call to Jim Joyce last year. How can you compare the two?Joyce's call had nothing to do with the game, and he felt absolutely horrible about it. Meals looked like he couldn't give two shits, he was ready to get off that field.
The Pirates battled more than they have ever battled before. An unbelievable performance from Grilli, McCutchen, and Watson. They and the rest of the bullpen pitched until they could pitch no more. Kevin Correia started to head toward the Pirates bullpen near the end of the game.
Not close. What an absolute shame that the umpires didn't let the players end the game. What a shame.
08-01-2011, 12:29 AM
I've been away from this thread for a while! Maybe it's because I was so frustrated with the Braves series, and that frustration carried into the Phillies series. Well, we got swept, and in our last seven games we are 2-5. Things could be better in the Steel City.
But help is on the way....
Derrek Lee was acquired yesterday from the Baltimore Orioles for next to nothing.
Ryan Ludwick was acquired today just minutes before the deadline from the San Diego Padres...again, for next to nothing.
Are these guys big time hitters? No. But they're upgrades. I'll take anything that Neal gives me at this point, and this is what he has given me. Lee sures up the first base position, Overbay just hasn't been cutting it.
Ludwick hasn't really been all that great this year, but then again, he has been hitting in Petco....Petco is the most difficult ballpark to hit in in the MLB. PNC is tough too, yes, but I do expect to see some improvement from him. And even if he doesn't improve, I still believe he is better than Matt Diaz, and he's certainly better than Garrett Jones.
All in all, the Pirates are really scuffling right now, but we have a chance to get things together. We've dropped 4.5 games back, but we also played two really tough opponents while the Brewers and the Cards BOTH got to play the Stros (without Pence, Bourn, & Keppinger), and the Cubs. We can get right back in this, C'MON BATTLIN BUCCOS!
