Plummer given summons for reported road-rage incident

Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer was issued a summons by police after a hit-and-run incident apparently brought on by road rage, according to Englewood, Colo., police.

A release by the Englewood police said Plummer was served a municipal summons for injure or destroy property stemming from an incident on April 20 at Hwy. 285 and S. Downing St.

According to a report on KDVR-TV in Denver, the driver of Plummer's car cut off another driver, who honked repeatedly.

The police's release said the driver of Plummer's car stopped at a red light, exited the vehicle and kicked the front of the other car. The driver then got back in his car, put it in reverse and hit the front of the other car, causing minor damage. The other driver told police it was a road rage type incident.

According to the release the upset driver left the scene but a witness got the license plate number, which was listed as belonging to Plummer.

Initial attempts to contact Plummer by police were unsuccessful, but Friday Plummer was contacted at his Cherry Hills Village residence.

According to the police, Plummer's car had rear end damage consistent with the damage to the other driver's car. The release said Plummer had a different recollection of the incident. According to KDVR, one of Plummer's agents said the quarterback claimed he was rear ended at the light.

A Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Plummer, who has been with the Broncos since the 2003 season, has had some controversial incidents during his career. The National Football League fined him $5,000 in 2004 after he made an obscene gesture towards a heckling fan during a game at Invesco Field at Mile High. Last year he called and delivered an obscenity-laced tirade to a Rocky Mountain News gossip columnist after the columnist wrote that Plummer was dating Broncos cheerleader Kollette Klassen.
